Two main things that have affected my achievement are when my father had an accident at work, while he was trying to fix a machine. Hydraulic oil was in his left index finger. He was rushed to the emergency room and flew to Mayo Clinic, and after he was finally released from the hospital. During his time at the hospital and 4 months later… I had to get a job and provide food and money to my family. It was difficult at a full time job and full time school. I was always exhausted from everything.
Describe the most challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement?
For example, college is very academically challenging. Being enrolled in college has shown me that I still have time management issues. Having to juggle with keeping up with assignments and exams requires a lot of focus and responsibility. This often causes me to not remember what I've studied before taking an exam. Knowing your limits and testing what you are able to handle
An obstacle I have overcome in my life is school. In school I have to work a little bit harder than others so i don’t fall behind. My choice to try harder helped me to keep going. If I didnt choose to work harder and keep going i would never get anywhere in life. I think having to work harder than others pushes me to be my best and makes me a stronger person.
One example of adversity that has impacted my life is when my mom was diagnosed with Lupus in 2015. Lupus is an inflammatory disease that is caused when the immune system attacks itself. My mom also has rheumatoid arthritis and chronic migraines. There are a lot of times where she can’t get out of bed because she’s so sick. However, she always makes it to all of my activities. She truly is one of the strongest and most loving people I know.
Did you suffer an accident or illness, which caused your grades to plummet? Did family matters, such as a death, divorce or serious illness have a negative impact on your studies?
A challenging goal that took a long time to achieve was maintaining a 3.5+ GPA by the end of junior year along with taking care of my family while my father is sick. Throughout middle school and high school, I have helped my mother and father with chores around the house as well as assisting my father whenever he needed medicine or other tasks to be done. It has been a responsibility of mine to step up as the head of the house along with my mother to meet the family’s needs. My brother is younger than I am, so I have had to help him with school and any problems that arose, from friends to health.
1. Describe how a particular event has impacted your world view. All of the things in my life have molded me into the person I am today. However, one of the most dramatic events that has affected me was the divorce of my parents when I was young. This event introduced me to the bite of pain and loss at an early age.
Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement?
Because of my persistence to make my artwork look realistic, I would take a long time to complete my experiments. I overcame this by trying not to be so picky about every mistake I made. I also had poor time management issues, but I overcame them by coming in during my recess and lunch time, as well as during afterschool.
These scores meant that I would need to work harder to succeed. Because I struggle with certain things, I'm driven to be more determined, and more imaginative in the solutions I find to the problems that I face. With hard work and perseverance, I've progressed from an elementary and middle school student in remedial classes to a high school student on the Honor Roll in both regular and honors
Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement?
The most significant challenge I have ever faced was staying focused on my school work and getting things done when they needed to be. When I got into high school, I had a hard time getting focused because of all the distractions around me like sports, new friends, and new events to go to. I eventually figured out how to balance everything out but this challenge has definitely changed the way I am in order for me to be who I am today.
There are many different life changing events that can change your life. Sometimes things happen in people’s life and they can’t do anything about it. Changes can be good and sometimes it can be a terrible thing that results in a positive turn in one’s life. Change is a part of life that no one looks forward to. Everyone’s life changes at some point. Life is full of many unexpected challenges that will be thrown in your face at any place and any time. People learn and grow from every experience that they go through in life. Some of the events that have changed my life was losing my grandmother, graduation, and going to college. Changes come almost every day in my life.
I would say my biggest challenge has always been finding the motivation to do something. This started back in grade school, around 6th grade. I would do all of my homework and studied like anyone should, and maintained an A average in every class. I’m not sure when the turning point was, but I noticed as I stopped caring to do homework, aside from graded stuff, and stopped studying, my grades barely changed. I paid attention in class, and assumed I was able to retain enough information to do well while putting forth minimal effort. This continued through my first two years of community college. I received my associate’s degree and graduated with approximately a 3.5 grade point average, all while not studying and even skipping many classes. The motivation to put more effort was never really instilled upon me and I never faced any kind of challenge.
The most significant challenge I have faced was balancing my academics and sports. I have been involved in the boy's soccer program at Palm Desert High School since my freshman year and each season has proven to be a test for me academically. I must say that attempting to balance my school work and soccer during my freshman and sophomore year has taken a toll on my academic achievement. It is unfortunate, however, I learned many things that will benefit me in the future. It was difficult because stress and anxiety amounted on top of all the school work and assignments that needed to be completed with the little time I had in my hands. Each season lasted around four months and during those four months, I accumulated bad habits. I procrastinated
