The Makings of a Hero A hero is always looked at as someone who is constantly saving people from falling buildings and always being there just in time before something horrible happens. Has a hero ever been looked at as someone who experiences self change and is not so timely perfect? The ultimate question here is who and what exactly makes someone a hero? Out of all of the heroes studied this semester, Thor experiences the most self improvement. A hero should be someone who is not perfect, a person who makes mistakes but ends up learning from them. They should be relatable, and should be the most unexpected person to end up a hero. In Thor the movie, Thor was banished to earth

His ordinary world, Asgard was where he awaited his father’s throne. A series of events led him banished to the earth which essentially was the unknown. On earth his mission was to find Mjolner, his greedy personality led him to finding it. Once Mjolner was found, he realized he was not worthy of it. He goes through a phase of wanting to defeat the frost giants and taking his father’s throne, and thinking that power was the only way to go. Once on earth, it took him a while to figure out that he needed to change his ways. The big ordeal was when Thor was face to face with the destroyer robot and Loki was controlling him. Thor made the ultimate sacrifice by being killed, this led to him being resurrected and once again reunited with his supernatural ability. The only way to win back his way to Asgard, was to make a change within himself and to realize that power isn’t everything. Thor indeed is a hero, he traveled through The Hero’s Journey, he saves civilians on earth, he brings peace back to Asgard, and most importantly made a drastic change in his life. “ The answers you seek shall be yours, once I claim what is mine.” (Thor) The author tells us that the theme here is greed and that at the beginning of Thor’s journey it was a bit rocky in terms of being a hero. This quote just goes to show how much Thor has changed from beginning to …show more content…
Thor changed from this power hungry man to a courageous hero. Sometimes it takes having something being taken from you to realize your full potential. Thor’s supernatural powers were taken from him, but this helped him to become a better man and take responsibility for his actions. “I would rather be a good man than a great king.” (Thor) He came to the realization that he didn’t need the throne to be powerful, all he had to do was to be a better man. To take lives more seriously, and to not kill the enemy just because he thought it was right. It’s important that people in society take the time to realize that lives matter, and that money and greed should not be on the list of importance. An important lesson is to always stand up for what’s right, take that extra step and to be brave. Live up to your own name, and become a hero to someone else’s
Hero’s come in many different perspectives. Some might view a hero as the fictional super heroes. Other’s consider hero’s to be modern day people. Some qualities of a hero are someone who is courageous, brave, and kind. A hero is a person who is admired for their courageous acts and achievements. They never give up even when times get hard. It’s more about the hero taking a stand for what they believe is right. Taking a stand counts more than winning.
One of the most significant attributes of Loki is his connection to Ragnarök, or the end of the world according the Norse mythology. He triggers Ragnarök by “arranging the death of Baldur,” (Lindow, par. 6). He does this by tricking the blind god Hod into throwing a mistletoe spear at Baldur, killing him (McCoy, par. 9). He then turns against the gods and takes the side of the giant. Some of the major incidents that take place during the battle include: Jormungand, the giant serpent, slaying Thor; Fenrir, the wolf, killing Odin; and Loki and Heimdall mortally wounding each other (McCoy, par. 3 and 8). As punishment, the gods “tie him down to three rocks inside a cave” while “a venomous serpent sits above him, dripping poison onto him” (McCoy, par. 9).
According to the Norse Mythology for Smart People in the article, “THOR,” Thor is the thunder god, who protects Asgard from the giants, “Thor, the brawny thunder god, is the archetype of a loyal and honorable warrior, the ideal toward which the average human warrior aspired. He’s the indefatigable defender of […] Asgard from the encroachments of the giants […].” Thor is described as having similar characteristic of Finn: Loyal and honorable. Thor is also strong and courageous: “His courage and sense of duty are unshakeable, and his physical strength is virtually unmatched,” (THOR).
Thor has many personal issues he needs to resolve and overcome, but his heart is not one of those. He certainly does not lack heart in the film. He shows so many instances of heart and laying it all out on the line for himself and his friends. However, he is very hard-headed and prideful which he lets get the best of him sometimes. Those two reasons are exactly why he was banished from his homeland Asgard by his father Odin. In the beginning of the film, thor is being formally recognized as the crown prince of Asgard, as he was the next to be the king of Asgard when his father passed away, which his brother Loki did not like one bit. As the ceremony is going on, thor and all
Due to being the God of mischief he is not shown in the spotlight and lives in his brothers shadow. We see his transformation throughout the movie as he wishes to begin the one true heir and take Thor place as future king which in order to secure his position he shows he is willing to kill his brother. Thor however found this hard to see as he does not seem that intimidating this only adds to him fitting the trickster archetype as does not seem to be the type to do that. This can fit easily modernly as many people can feel as if they are in the shadow of somebody especially if they are siblings. This can lead them to develop cold feelings towards them which they may not show or admit to until
When people think of a hero, they do not understand you don't need to be just like superman, you don't need to be able to fly, or be immortal and never die. There is no need to wear a mask, save the world, or have special powers. To me, any regular person can become a hero in their own way. I believe a hero can be found in any piece of literature, most main characters are all heroes, but they are all heroes in a different way. To me, in order to be a hero, all you need to do is put someone else's life in front of your own, if you can change someone else's life you can then call yourself a hero. Aristotle once said that a tragic hero is "one who does not fall into misfortune though vice or depravity, but falls because of some mistake".
There is a wicked side to Odin. He can be erratic and at times abuse his power by causing or initiating wars. This has surfaced with many rulers throughout history. If Odin were to be compared to a
Over the next two weeks, we planned how to tell the others about Loki and me. It was going well but Thor was not so sure, what would happen. He’s just as anxious as I was about telling knew that they would be mad with him keeping this secret. They had to understand why he didn't tell them.
“Shoo!” he ordered, shifting his spellbook to his other hand and using the other to wave the Asgardians away. Thor drew back, insulted. The warriors three exchanged amused looks, and Loki shifted his weight uncomfortably. “Leave this place. Such a beast won’t be downed by brute force, you oaf.”
As time went on the trickster god became less playful and more evil in his ways. The humor that he was full of before became a sadistic need to create chaos in Asgard. One such incident involved Thor’s wife, Sif. She was the goddess of harvest, known for her beautiful golden hair. One night Loki thought it would be funny to sneak into Sif’s room while she slept and lop off her gorgeous hair. When Thor found out what he had done the god of thunder became irate. He hunted Loki down and threatened to destroy him for his offense. The trickster pleaded with Thor and promised to replace Sif’s hair with real gold, as well and bring other trinkets for the Aesir. He was released and set out on his journey to
Are you a hero? What do you think defines a hero? Being a hero is not someone who is greedy or someone who changes the world. A hero is someone who is brave, determined, innovative, and someone who has leadership; people like Malala Yousafzai, Steve Jobs, and Dale Beatty are heroes. Anybody can be a hero and change the world
When the word "hero" is spoken, everyone has different thoughts. Some will think of super powers like flying and saving people from villains; while others have a certain person they know or have heard of that come to mind who have done something to make a difference in the lives of others but who is a hero to you? To answer this question you must first ask yourself what a hero is; what comes to your mind when someone says the word. When I am confronted with these questions I always have the same thoughts; smart, strong will power, and someone who stands up for what they believe is right.
Loki is the embodiment of, “Of course it was Loki. It 's always Loki.” Loki is unquestionably the biggest question mark within Norse mythology. He is portrayed as a scheming, mischievous deity who has no real loyalties, his role is shrouded in mystery; what was his purpose in the ancient stories. Loki’s character arises questions about his role; was he a plot device, a foil for the Aesir, or maybe he was meant to be used as a warning to child? Within the pantheon of Norse gods, he was an anomaly; his fellow gods are mostly one dimensional and Loki is anything but. Loki is the antithesis to the culture the Norse gods represented; honor, courage, fidelity, truth, discipline, hospitality, industriousness, self reliance, perseverance. Loki is
Chris Hemsworth had been seen in the basic character of Thor with an enchanted hammer and this exhibits him as the son of (Anthony Hopkins). Thor was considered to be the heir of eternal Asgard. On the other hand, this film had exhibited Thor’s impulsive wish to look for fights even though Odin was not happy with this act. He banished his son to earth (Midgard) and Thor is now powerless without his hammer. This film had demonstrated the fact that Thor is exposed by scientist Jane Foster and associates. Jane Foster is being played by Natalie Portman, while Thor’s rudeness had shadowed and he discovers himself to protect Earth from the conspiracies of Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Loki had been the God of disruption who wants Odin’s authority and he is the half-brother of Thor (Schweiger, 2011).
Thor did not recognize his unbelievable superpowers right away, in fact, he did not realize that he was even Thor until later on in his life. He was first a psychiatric nurse called Thorlief Golmen. One day he suffered a nervous breakdown before his 30th birthday. During the 18 months he spent institutionalized, he claims to have realized who he was and why he has been sent to Earth. This is when he realized he was Thor, the Norse God of Thunder, to save the planet. After getting in many fights he figured out his most useful power was his magnificent strength. He is so remarkably strong that his strength level is officially rated at Class 100 in the
