A possible theme for Oedipus the King by Sophocles is that one’s blindness can hide the inevitability that is his destiny. Oedipus is in this situation. He struggles to escape his fate: killing his father and marrying his mother and believes he is successful. Sophocles believes that the gpds control one’s destiny and the inevitability that a person will do what is destined despite there hero’s intentions.Oedipus represent the standards of a true tragic hero: he is well known, basically good, his punishment is out of proportion compared to his crime, the audience at some point feels sorrow and pity for him, and Oedipus has a tragic flaw. During the whole story Oedipus thinks that he may be able to change his fate a live life how he wants but he falls to that which is his destiny. For these reason Oedipus is truly an example of a tragic hero and is unable to avoid his tragic fate.
The sound effects along with the hellish prayers at the beginning of the film, all give off a feeling of despair. The prisoners are obviously locked up tight and treated poorly. This is conveyed by briefly panning over the heavy chains and is complimented by the accompanying sound effect of the clanging chains. The sounds of a woman pleading echo the prison while another prisoner prays for salvation. The visual aid of the room being filthy also helps establish that these defiantly aren’t pampered inmates. I really enjoyed your break down of the scenario. You did a very good job of analyzing all of the small details of the scene and you even went a step further elaborated on the symbolic noises and events for example the weighty stamping
His name was Sir John Mandrake. He sent his men to death, but he got promotion because no one knew what really happened. He was stabbed to death in the movie, when in the book, he was killed with a blow to the back of the head. The fourth person that died, was the same, Mr. Rogers, his name was Joseph Grohmann. He still killed his employer, but he was not killed when he was chopping sticks, he was killed when he, too, tried to escape the mountain and tried to take a rope and go down it, but someone cut his rope, and he fell from the mountain and died after hitting the side of the mountain many
A knight in shining armor, the damsel in distress, and the villain. The classic heroic story. The hero starts out poor, ends up rich. With everything. Always fighting crime, saving the city, swinging from webs, shooting arrows, growing green, throwing hammers. Heroes are perfect, heroes have powers, heroes are rich, heroes never suffer, heroes are all men. All false. What has our society become if we can only look up to an impossible image? True heroes are not all that perfect. True heroes find their strengths from their weaknesses, they put others before themselves, and they have to disobey orders when they know it’s right.
They may die, but at least they will die for a righteous
One, Two, Three, Four, Five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. We count in our head, the numbers ring as I repeat them over and over again. What am I to do, my pride and honor forces me to commence the duel. Yet religiously I could never slay another man, the mere idea of that is repugnant, what to do what to do. On the weehawken floor, we lay back to back and slowly take steps and count. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine.
The heroes of the story are faced with and challenged by several trials of superior power and insurmountable obstacles: powerful antagonist with no precedents, death in the underworld of the darkest hour, and internal conflict between ideology and reality. These three key trials empower the characters

I foolishly thought the worst of the journey was behind me. I somehow felt it would be smooth sailing once I could manage to get past the physical cravings and get a little time under my belt. I anticipated and planned for turbulent waters from time to time, but nothing like this new wave of storms, which lash out in an unpredictable manner. It is an unusual kind of uncomfortableness that has the power to elicit pure, raw emotional and physical discomfort, which is equally as exhausting as the first week. I can understand why those who have sailed before us who weathered the storm feel this new sense of strength and courage, where their future seems limitless. I just hope my tiny, broken down vessel with its torn sails and half mended utter
