Many Americans believe undocumented immigrants are a burden to the United States Government, because Americans hold on to this belief that Hispanics are taking advantage of the health care system and the rights granted to U.S citizens. Illegal immigrants are looked upon as criminals and people looking for handouts. They are believed to bring illegal drugs into our country prisoning the community and economy. In the video, Ties that bind: Immigration stories, Pete Wilson petitioned the INS officials to allow for importation of over 350,000 undocumented labors to help harvest the fields in California. Later, Pete Wilson leads the anti-immigration campaigns, successfully passing bills like 187. Individuals like Pete Wilson see immigrants only as laborers, good enough to work for little pay, but not good enough for citizenship. The term illegal sounds offensive to me, it portrays a group of people as criminals getting ready to rob, steal or kill. The word immigrant should never be paired with illegal, which means forbidden by law described by google. Undocumented is a more suitable term paired with immigrant which means lacking legal documents for citizenship in a foreign country.
There are many immigration activists working hard to create equality for undocumented immigration who are trying to establish citizenship in the United States. I believe accommodations should be made for the families with children who are U.S citizens. Many people lose their lives on their journey to America for improved living conditions and opportunities for their family. I think a little compassion for these families can help built and strengthen our economy and ensure families stay together. For example, immigrants grow fruits and vegetable and sell them at farmer
