I wish that I could be writing about my time management skills but this is a reflective paper and I am a terrible procrastinator. Even with my terrible procrastination I still experience some of the characteristics of FLOW and Kairos time. I am also a very social person which helps me with participation efforts. I am an Architecture student and most architecture students have an unbelievable work load that I believe no one can truly understand unless they were in the program. I am on campus working in studio more than I am anywhere else total. I spend at least 12 hours a day in studio working, I also live in the off campus resident hall so it is sometimes too time consuming to travel back to my room so for the majority of the day I spend just working on campus on all the assignments I have. Often I just have enough time to go back to my room to shower and change before this class and show up. So I am often extremely tired because I stayed up all night completing an assignment due to procrastination.
Personally I do not know anyone else who procrastinates as much as I do. Time management is one of my weaknesses, although I do think I have gotten slightly better over the years. I mainly procrastinate in school and completing assignments and I still will complete them even if it means losing sleep or not eating, which is unhealthy and causes me to get sick often. I try to get assignments done early but I have a tendency on doing them last minute. Procrastination has definitely
It is said that “Time and Tide waits for none”. As an upcoming college freshman I need to understand the value of time to succeed in life. I have to understand that everything needs to be prioritized no matter the case. That being able to manage my time correctly will teach me discipline which is exactly what I need to get through college with the goals I have set for myself. Individuals who stick to a time plan are more likely the people who realize their goals and objectives within the shortest possible time span. This will help me get my work done before the deadline instead of working on it the night before.
I found I’m not alone according to two leading experts on procrastination, Joseph Ferrari, professor of psychology at DePaul University and Timothy Phikul, professor of psychology at Carleton University 20% of people identify themselves as chronic procrastinators and up to 70 percent of students in one study said that they procrastinate. This habit affects so many and it one of the most difficult tendencies to kick but fortunately there are ways to go about solving the issue so today I would like to inform you all about why people procrastinate and the effects it can have and also ways to overcome it.
This piece of reflection will focus on my progress and experiences during my placement in Campbelltown Hospital Medical E ward. I will be using the Gibbs 1988 model of reflection (Gibbs, 1988). This cycle helped me to reflect in a structured and effective way. The subject of this paper will reflect on my time management skills whilst maintaining the necessary standards of practice at all times (NMBA, 2016).
The two articles, 'The Procrastination Doom Loop- And How to Break It' and 'This Was Supposed To Be My Column For New Years' both provide much information about procrastination. One example is that it has more to do with emotion than time. In the article, written by Derek Thompson, he talks about how each of us recognizes it is important to go to the dentist, but still put it off. We look away from this because the pain is too upfront and the rewards are too small. Another example is having nothing to distract you and everything ready to go, but not writing an email back because you don't feel like it. Procrastination can be an effective tool for getting things done.
Procrastination was such a terrible habit for myself. It happens to be extremely difficult to prevent procrastinating as soon as a person has gotten into the habit of doing it. Being the procrastinator that I am, I usually postponed until the last minute to
People procrastinate because they are afraid to fail, they have poor time management, they avoid things that seem difficult or they feel depressed or they feel guilty. Some people believe that other procrastinate out of laziness or lack of discipline, but I know there are perfectionists that often procrastinate as well. For example, a perfectionist may put off writing a paper until the night before it is due and then they will have an excuse saying, “I restarted because I didn’t like what I had written.”. Another example is that some philosophers and scientists, such that Aristotle questioned if time even exists, and Einstein believed that time was a muddle in which the past, present and future were only illusions.
My interview partner, Amanda Urdiales, says that she hardly procrastinates. It is safe to assume that Amanda is very confident in herself and in her abilities to complete a task at the last moment. Her main cause for such confidence in her abilities comes from the notion she feels she has enough time to get the task at hand done. She usually does not procrastinate, but when she does, she almost always gets the assignment done the day before it is due. She also procrastinates on work she find uninteresting or difficult.
Since I learned how to write the task came relatively easy to me. I have no problem putting my thoughts onto paper or doing the necessary research to give accurate information. However, I struggled with punctuation, run on sentences, sentence fragments, comma splices and most recently to-be verbs. I can get information down easily enough, and I have a good flow to my papers. However, time management and procrastination set potentially A plus papers back a lot.
Apparently, everyone is a procrastinator! Tim Urban, "writer/blogger guy", spoke at a TED conference February 2016 about the process of procrastination in individuals. For the majority of the presentation he focused on his own shortcomings, but then shifts to procrastinators in general, before finally reaching the conclusion that everyone is a procrastinator.
It is rightly said "Time and Tide wait for none". An individual should understand the value of time for him to succeed in all aspects of life. People who waste time are the ones who fail to create an identity of their own.
When I first evaluated myself in the study skill academic test, time management was my weakest skill overall. This was priority in terms of skill development because I would always leave things till the last minute and stress myself out trying to turn in things on time. In order to improve this I made a smart goal to carry out in the beginning of the year. Now after some time, the results of my progression are shown. My smart goal that I created for myself regarding my time management planned out very well, I was able to successfully accomplish a majority of my assignments on time. I would review the material of the week on Monday’s and compile all of the assignments due for the week. The monthly calendar was also a key factor in helping me keep up to date in the month so see what where upcoming tasks the following week. If I needed more clarification on certain tasks then I would login and check the syllabus.
One of the most important self-management skills involves controlling and budgeting your time. Gaining control of your time and your life involves identifying time wasters and determining your peak energy level. Managing time also involves identifying goals, setting priorities, and creating an action plan. Determining what tasks should be done first and overcoming procrastination are major factors in creating success. All these steps and issues involve critical thinking skills. Use critical thinking to
I write this clear and concise reflection to identify and evaluate an academic problem that I feel is negatively impacting my studies which is time management; otherwise, I find lot of difficulty to manage my time.
The deadline for this paper is one week away and I've written just this sentence. Every time I sat down to start, my mind would drift away and I would think about anything but this. There always seems to be something that is far more important or interesting that needs to be taken care of first. The deadline is getting closer and I am starting to get anxious on whether or not I am going to finish in time, yet I do this to myself all of the time. These actions and feelings are considered textbook traits of procrastination. Defined as the act of delaying the completion of one task in favor of another less urgent or more pleasurable task, procrastination can affect people in all walks of life (2007). The purpose of this paper is to discuss and explore the growing phenomenon of procrastination and its effects on academic achievement as well as offer tips on how to combat it.
