I believe the Civil War was unavoidable because even if slavery wasn’t wanted to be banned then, other wanted changes in America’s society would have triggered the war. The Civil War changed so many different aspects within our own country, these changes were mostly involved with social issues and rights. The Civil War marked the beginning of a large reformation period. After the 13th Amendment came out and slavery was banned, more amendments of change came into view. 14th amendment was pronounced and gave the right to every citizen born on US soil, gained citizenship to America. Soon after this, voting was considered a right and African American men wanted it. This became known as the 15th amendment. All the drama America went through to give
Yes, the Civil War was iInevitable, there were many events that led up to the Civil War that could have been avoided. Sectionalism is a main reason the Civil War happened. Sectionalism created conflict between states, this drew a clear line between the ideals of Northern and Southern States. The South felt that they could not keep up with the North’s economy without forcing slavery. Another main reason is that the States were originally independent.
I do not think that slavery could have been solved without civil war. I agree with Mitchell. The south was using slavery to make money. They did not have that much out of pocket expenses since owning a slave was cheap. So if the south was not willing to part ways with the ideas of slavery then they would not have had as much profits coming in from all the farm land that the southerners owned. The Southerners would have also had these massive plots of land to farm but no one to do the work of the
When asked the question, “Was the Civil War Inevitable”, the answer was straightforward to me. I think it was inevitable, because the North and South had many different views and opinions on certain issues. As a result of these differences, many conflicts began. One example, being the Wilmot Proviso in 1846, when many northerners feared the southerners would extend slavery into the West.
In my belief, the civil war couldn't have been avoided. The biggest cause of the civil war was the dispute over the future of the slavery. Without the was, there was no possibility for the southern state to abolish slavery because slaves were a;ready being used for a large variety of jobs. Southerners believed that slaves were cheaper and more manageable form of labor who could be trained to work in the factories. Slavery was economic foundation for the south, which meant they wouldn't have ended slavery without the war.
I believe that the Civil War was inevitable. Almost any time the Civil War is debated, one of the most infamous questions is asked, whether the war was inevitable or if it could have been avoided. On December 20th, 1860, South Carolina declared its plan to secede from the Union. The Secession of South Carolina was followed by the secession of six additional states from the South. By February 1861, the seven southern states had drafted a provisional constitution and became the Confederate States of America.
The Civil War was inevitable because the south had a very different economy than the north. By 1861, the south was still an agricultural economy, relying on slaves to work the farms. In contrast, the north was more industrialized, and there were many factories in the northern cities. People earned wages in these factories. The cities in the north were densely populated and growing faster than the more sparsely populated southern rural regions. They were growing not only due to the birth rate, but due to European immigrants flocking to the northern cities for jobs. This meant that the northern states would be getting more representatives in congress. Therefore, the north would have a stronger influence in Washington. Tariffs and other
The topic, was the Civil War inevitable, may interest many people. The Civil War was inevitable due to the fact that many situations could have been avoided therefore, the war wouldn’t of have occurred. The Compromise of 1850 is just one example of this situation because it promoted great conflict. This document allowed California to enter the Union as a free state, territories of New Mexico and Utah to vote on slavery, it ended slave trade in in Washington D.C., it enforced a strict fugitive slave law, and it settled border dispute in New Mexico and Texas. Although the document was meant to resolve conflict, it made territories even worse because not everyone agreed on what the compromise stated. The sectionalism is another example of this
In my opinion I think the Civil War was inevitable. With the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860 southerners began preparations to secede from the Union. Southerners felt with the ending of slavery this would bring their survival to an end. They depended on slavery as a way to run their plantations and had a lot of money invested in their land and slaves. With the North’s feelings growing for anti-slavery and slaves who were fugitives being protected by them the South felt they had no choice. The North ignored the fugitive slave laws and did not return the South’s property back to them. The states which had no slaves did not recognize the Constitution and the South felt the government was not working for them but against them.
The civil war was the bloodiest war ever fought on American soil, and many people argue that this war could have been avoided, instead of the bloodshed that was exhibited during this gruesome time. The disagreements that had lead to the Civil War had been causing tensions for years, so a simple document or treaty would not have been enough to fix it, if anything it would have just held the war back a couple more years causing the tensions to get worse and possibly altering the outcome of the war. There are many reasons the war was inevitable but the reasons that stand out to the rest are that the disagreements had built up to much tension to be resolved, a treaty wouldn’t not be enough to stop the tension, and sectionalism had already dividing the country. The civil war was inevitable because there were so many disagreements between the North and the South that only a war could solve.
Overall, I think that the Civil was inevitable. The Civil War was a result of different views in the North and South on slavery, tariffs, state rights, and trade. By the end of 1854, I don't think there was any way to go around having the war because of where everything was going. In the South, the people believed they had to have slaves and it was their right to own slaves. The slaves were used in production of crops such as cotton. If the right for the South to have slaves was revoked, then it may have harmed states' rights as a whole and caused even more problems. The complication with slavery came because the North didn't believe that slavery should exist while the South had slaves.
Was the Civil War inevitable or was it an avoidable conflict? Due to the political, economic and social divides, and failed compromise attempts by the North and the South, the Civil War was indeed inevitable. This caused tension between the two, especially over slavery; an explosive conflict was bound to occur. You cannot have two sides opposing one another’s beliefs without conflict over what is acceptable and what is not. If you have tension and multiple failed attempts to compromise there is nothing else that can be done to solve the issue besides going to war.
After thoroughly assessing past readings and additional research on the Civil War between the North and South, it was quite apparent that the war was inevitable. Opposed views on this would have probably argued that slavery was the only reason for the Civil War. Therefore suggesting it could have been avoided if a resolution was reached on the issue of slavery. Although there is accuracy in stating slavery led to the war, it wasn’t the only factor. Along with slavery, political issues with territorial expansion, there were also economic and social differences between North and South. These differences, being more than just one or two, gradually led to a war that was bound to happened one way or another.
The civil war was inevitable, only however, after one key event; the cotton gin made the civil war inevitable. The invention of the cotton gin in 1793 was the key element which enabled the south to have sufficient vested interest in their traditional lifestyle in order to feel the need to defend it at all costs even from their Northern countrymen. The core argument of this essay centres around the evidence which clearly defines their being in existence two nations' with in America constantly in opposition to each other. Therefore the growth of sectionalism and the events which led up to the conflict made war an inevitable outcome of the hostilities which had arisen from the to ideologically
The American Civil War was unavoidable. Because of regional and political disputes the country would have continued to boil even if the extremists on both sides were kept under control. No matter what was done politically a conflict was necessary to eradicate slavery from this continent.
The Civil War was inevitable in many reasons. The economic and industrial evolution was mainly in the North side of the United States while the South was just a cotton kingdom, Slave Empire. Also both were completely opposites of one another when it was about freeing the slaves or hiring more. With many debates there has to be sides that would be separated especially if the president has so much hate from the people. With that being said, since many want opposing ideas, the Civil War becomes much evitable.
