Not everyone expects much from animated films. In 1995, with films like Braveheart, Goldeneye, and Se7en, the last thing the world needs was another cartoon. However, advancements in computers gave some bigtime companies a second thought. Disney, known for its genius in animation, collaborated with Apple’s Pixar to produce the first computer animated film. John Lasseter’s Toy Story took the film industry by the storm.
Toy story’s plot was cute on its own. It consists of a world where toys pretend to be lifeless in the presence of their owners and humans; however, as soon as the coast is clear, they come to life with such human personalities, it is hard not to smile. In this particular story, a group of toys are owned by a boy named Andy. These toys were friends. Comically, they would play poker together, some had romances, and some would spy around the house. The leader of the group was a pull string, cowboy doll named Woody who was voiced by Tom Hanks. As all children have go through favorite toys, Woody was Andy’s favorite. However, during every holiday or birthday, all the toys go into frenzy because it means that there is a possibility of new toys! Unfortunately, new toys means new favorites and that’s Andy’s new toy comes in.
Buzz Lightyear, voiced by Tim Allen, was the most sought after toy amongst Andy’s friends and Andy

They both reached out to Randy Newman to compose the film. Newman was known for his work on Avalon and Ragtime, and continued create a touching yet witty songs for Toy Story. Toy Story is the groundbreaking 1995 motion picture developed by Disney and Pixar and directed by John Lasseter. The film was so revolutionary not only because it was the first feature length animation to be created completely by CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) but also, also the film was more rounded in all respects. The characters not only looked more sophisticated and three-dimensional but their personalities were also more human and fewer cartoons like. The film uses a constructed text in order to put across a theme of two very different characters learning to work together beyond their rivalries to rise above a common enemy and work towards a common goal. The film uses characters and imagery very cleverly to

After falling asleep, the brooms had the room overflowed with water and Mickey could not find or remember how to make them stop. “As a matter of fact, in this case the story came first...and the composer wrote the music to go with it.” (Grant). In contrast to what Joe Grant wrote, none of the other segments in Fantasia had the music created for the animation, the music was there first and then created the animations based off of the music. Throughout the creation of this film, there were over 700 animators that worked closely with director, James Algar to make sure every detail of the animations were perfect. These animations were extraordinarily precise as objects came to life or moved on the exact beats going along with the music. It simply takes the audience into a magical world of what is going on throughout the segments whether it be with spirits or dinosaurs. The Shreck films, Finding Nemo, and Happy Feet, to name just some of the dozens of animated films Disney has produced, raked in million upon millions of dollars at the box office, and have been hit films with people in all age groups.
Pixar Animation Studios was founded in 1979, initially specializing in producing state of the art computer hardware (Carlson, 2003). In 1990, due to poor product sales the company diversified from its core business and began producing computer animated commercials for outside companies.
