When people making decisions of buy new clothes, usually they have little knowledge of how the cloth will looks like on them, so they need to try them on, this process often take a long time. The influcences at the points of sales of these products will be whether customers like the style or not, the suggestions from friends, families and salesperson, and whether customers think the product worth the price (Rahman, Rahaman, Jensen, & Gällstedt 2008, p. 42-43).
The south west indians used cotton for clothing. They made their houses out of clay and straw and sometimes animal poop. These shelters were mainly squared and a orangish brown color. For their clothing the southwest indians grew long hair to cover most of their body and skirt like pants made out of animal hide and or cotton. The indians used sharp tools such as spears with sharp rocks on the end and bows made of wood and string to hunt and kill animals like rabbit, deer, and mammoth. These native americans of the southwest are very skilled and smart.
A long time ago, buckskin and buffalo skins were what the women mostly used for making everyone's clothing. The hard-working women of the Sioux made skirts out of one piece of cloth sewn together at one side and looped over a belt. Their
The Maidu lived in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, in North Central California. They lived in villages with around two hundred people in them. Their homes were made from earth, bark and brush. The land provided animals and plants for them to eat. Everyone work clothes that were made from animal hide. Tools helped them hunt, build houses and survive. Native Americans are the indigenous people of the North American continent and the cultural traditions and art forms are unique to these regional groups. The people in these groups have several names and the first adopted name Indian by Spanish explorers proved erroneous, however, now accepted names include either American Indian or Native American. I will refer to these groups as Native Americans or by their tribal affiliation. There are diverse tribal groups original to North America who lived on the Great Plains, in the Woodlands, on the Northwest coast, and in the Southeast or the Southwest regions. Various Native American tribes created art forms such as the Apache, Cherokee, Pueblo, and Hopi communities. In my research, I found that the Navajo also contributed in many ways to Native American art through making jewelry, beading, drawing, painting, sculpting, carving, and weaving. These art works provided their tribe notoriety with countless “years of experience through their creativity and sense of design”, lending to an “astonishing volume and variety of artwork which has created a lasting legacy”, per NativeAmerican-Art.com (2010). Understandably, art comes in various forms and from various cultures, but the Native American Navajo tribe contributed vastly and merits mention for its beautiful contributions. Therefore, I
The Indian textiles chart showed how India used machines to produce greater yarn and cloth amounts in 1914 as compared to the production in 1884. As well it demonstrated how the amount of people using machine made textiles had greatly increased opposed to hand made textiles (Doc 1). In 1916 Radhakamal Mukerjee, an Indian economist, explains how that handwoven textiles cannot keep up with the machine made textiles, and therefore is on a decline (Doc 6). This identifies how India is moving towards
Both of these two products reflect the cultural and traditional values, symbols and meanings in the life of an Indian woman. It is traditionally worn by their ancestors from 5,000 years ago. A designer saree is known as a long female garment, which comes with a size of “six to nine yards in length,” an unstitched cloth that draped in a set design. Indian women wear saree with a matching blouse that covers the upper portion of the body and wears a color matching petticoat that ties on the wrist which enables to hold the pleats. Each designer saree has a design theme that conveys a unique story. Meanwhile, the churidar suits come with a set of three pieces of material which is “kameez, salwar, and dupatta.” A long dress that covers the upper portion of the body is known as kameez that covers until the knee, a salwar tapers at the ankle that comes as a loose or tight pants that wore tightly at the wrist. A dupatta is a long stylish ornament worn on the shoulders or to cover the head while visiting the elders or the temple.
In the last 150 years clothing styles and the creation of clothing has changed drastically. From only custom-made clothing being available to the wealthy to fitted style clothing of the Renaissance period, these changes from the past have influenced clothing style and creation in today’s society. With the rise in technology advancements and influx availability, people are able to create and purchase clothing much easier and quicker than those in the past.
Garments were typically made of materials extending from coarse to fine surface. Men as a rule wore a short skirt called a kilt. Ladies wore a straight fitting dress held up by straps. The well off men wore creased kilts, and the more established men wore a more drawn out kilt. While doing diligent work, men wore a loin fabric, and
These were about knee to calf length with a variety of necklines to suit the outer garment. After this the women would put on stockings which would sit just above the knee and fastened with a garter or ribbon. The next piece is a corset/bodice which uses glue stiffened fabric, dried reeds, rope or baleen sewn into the corset to keep its structure. After this a farthingale is put on. This is a skirt with hoops which is tied to the sides of the corset. Above this skirt goes a Rowle, which is a padded piece that sits around the hips to make the skirt stick out
The western fashion market is making a rapid move toward the eastern hemisphere and into Chinese territory. While activewear is becoming highly popular in the United States, expensive jean producers are looking toward broadening their consumer market. Brands such as American Rag Chie, RtA, and AG are quickly developing strategies to sell high quality jeans to China’s large economy.
Weaving, a method of textile production in which two distinct sets of yarns or threads are interlaced at right angles to form a fabric or cloth. This technique has a major importance in Andean society. Weaving textiles showed importance of an individual. The higher the quality of textile a person has, the higher the status the individual has. Weaving textiles has multiple functions such as wrapping the honored dead into mummy like bundles for burials. Textiles also were used as gift to other rulers, the Incas used textiles as a way to solidify their rule, where when the ruler accepted their gift, the ruler agreed to join the Incan Empire. Historians should see the textiles as cultural history; where the textiles tell you their culture by showing
The Flower cloth is intriguingly designed by hand. Hmong women were responsible for sewing the cloth and the beautiful embroideries. Several Hmong women use a rare method of reverse appliqué, "designs made by sewing on a patch to the underside of a fabric and then cutting away and turning under the edge of the top fabric" (Fadiman ). The design is extremely difficult and takes years to acquire this skill. Hmong dresses are elaborated with trimmings, coins, and a variety of colorful yarns. The dresses were highly decorative and added bulk to the man or woman wearing the dress. However, the Rooster hat is a modernized tradition when the Hmong people came to the United States. The base of the hat was normally purchased and decorated with the coins and trimmings.
