Imagine that in your life you have everything you've ever wanted. Money, perfect job, perfect spouse. Your life has become the dream you’ve always had. Then you lose it all, just because of the prideful way you treated others. In life, we often believe in karma; the theory that what goes around comes around, and when society treats others unfairly we often lose our humility along with important people due to your pride. In Sophocles plays Oedipus the King and Antigone, characters face tragedy because of their pride which leads them into conflict and overall tragedy.

Tiresias and Creon argue over the punishment he intends to give Antigone for breaking his order of burying Polynices. “If your birds-the great eagles of God himself should carry him stinking bit by bit to heaven, I would not yield. I am not afraid of pollution: No man can defile the gods” (Sophocles 55). Creon says that if god himself were to tell him that he was wrong about his punishment of Antigone, he wouldn’t go back on his rule. Creon’s overzealous behavior leads him into losing his wife, and son. His prideful behavior leads into tragedy. Antigone argues with Creon about her punishment knowing she has done wrong with the gods diction than Creon's rule.“I have done no wrong, I have not sinned before God. But if the guilt. Lies upon Creon who judged me, I pray, may his punishment equal my own”(Sophocles 50). Antigone's pride misleads her into thinking she’s entitled to revenge because of her death. Antigone's says that what is fair would be if Creon were to get the same punishment as she will for breaking the law because he has broken the laws of the gods. Antigone suffers pride in telling Creon he is wrong. In which leads her to her own pride overshadowing her rational to such an extreme she kills herself rather than Creon murder her, which was taken out of play because Creon chooses to follow the rules after speaking with Tiresias.
