The evidence that some church people treat the physical building more important than the members makes the authors of the book, Transformational church clarify the meaning of church or building. In the New Testament, the Bible refers to people as the church. For this reason, is important to take care of the church (members) because is where God’s household is. It is not in the building but in each person’s body where God lives at. In this chapter, the authors talk about the importance of being able to measure to make sure that the gospel is impacting the community. The second scorecard is the process how to make disciples. The third scorecard, “will measure the tangible referring to asking questions that are quantifiable, measurable by numbers. For instance, it measures the leaders being produced, measures attendance at church, and leadership training. In TC research both authors came up to the principles that transform people to look like Christ, congregations to act like the body of Christ, and communities to reflect the kingdom of God” (pp.32-33). This transformational loop consists of three categories with seven elements. The seven steps of success in the three elements are: discernment: 1) missionary mentality; embrace: 2) vibrant leadership, 3) relational intentionality, 4) prayerful dependence; and engage: 5) worship, 6) community, 7) mission. The authors elaborated more on the next sentences. In the first category, called discernment, the church should know the neighbor and make observations then take action. The next step is to make disciples to those church people who are already in the church. As mentioned by the authors of this book, “We need to have a missionary mentality by which the church will minister the community to reach local people with the gospel” (pp. 34). Then, the authors deliver the meaning of the second category embrace which the churches need to implement the right values.
