The composer is trying to say that humans have been creating garbage from the start of evolution, and that we are creating more and more garbage everyday. We all throw away garbage, and it has an impact on the environment we live in. The composer is trying to say that we should think about what we will use new thing for, before we buy them. We should also donate things to charities, instead of throwing them away, without using them. The message that the text is trying to convey is that the rich people are corrupt, and that the rich is keeping all of the money to themselves, …show more content…
You can see that we have been generating garbage from the start of evolution. The modern man is generating more garbage than any other living thing in the line of evolution. The man could represent anyone of any age. "The title (Trash as Treasure) relates to the text because it mentions that if you donate; the donation will go to someone who may treat the product with more respect, and appreciate the product. If we have the essentials, we are lucky; but having enough makes us wealthy. It says that many people buy products which they throw out, after a short period of time, even if it has nothing wrong with it. It also says that people throw things out without using it properly. " "Quotes- “They let me go, I did not give it up” So am I garbage? “Boy thats all you are, that’s what all of you are. You are a piece of garbage. Why / Why not? I agree with the composer about the modern man creating more garbage than the start of evolution. I think that the issue is a worldwide problem and I agree that people should be more aware of the issue of garbage. I do agree with the composer, because many people throw things away, which they can still use. My family sometimes buys second hand items from thrift stores, we also donate items to charity. I agree with the composer that people should donate items if they are going to throw it away. I agree with the composer that discrimination of a lower rank is a bad thing. I think that all people should know the issue of people living, working, eating and sleeping on dumps. I agree that this issue should be stopped or helped by the
Rather, he tells Stella, "Let's put our Christmas Present away and keep' em a while. They're too nice to use just at present." Although they no longer had use for their gifts the mere fact that they would such a selfless act of love was more rewarding than any other gift. This in itself is wise. Another point to stress in that this willingness to be
To simply give money as “charity” to a man who has none, is to only feed into his follies as a man. Carnegie believes that in an every 1,000 dollars given to charity, 950 dollars of it goes to waste. The rich man who simply hands money away in small sums to others themselves only stalls the growth of character and ambition throughout the Nation.
In this essay I will be outlining consumerism and claims that a consumer society is always a throw-away society. Consumption plays a big part in our lives and causes us to live in divided societies. It may make us feel like we fit in buying new gadgets and clothes and also give us that sense of belonging but we don’t take into account what happens to the old items and packaging. People do not want to look at the problems caused. I will use this essay with the evidence I have read
From this aspect of the book, the reader would learn that generosity isn’t always a selfish act and to help out when you can. The author suggests that he agrees with helping out when possible when he included this quote: “God gives people money to see how you’re going to handle it,” she said. And she intended to prove she knew how to handle it. “ (59) The final takeaway should be that there may not always be a concrete reason behind extreme generosity because some people are sincerely wanting to assist
PLAN: Outline the ways in which rubbish can be said to have value in a consumer society
Trash and aging go hand in hand. Take for example a pair of shoes. When a person uses a pair of shoes consistently, the soles will begin to wear down and holes begin to form. A person may repair the sole and patch up the holes, but eventually there comes a time when the well-worn shoe is beyond repair and it is time to chuck them in the trash bin. Trash is made up of things that have aged to the point of uselessness; things that have become undesired and worthless. A person can easily tell when an item is no longer of use to them, but controversy ensues when a person attempts to determine when a human being begins to lose their usefulness. Aging is a fact of life, but how a society deals with this fact varies. In today’s American consumer
In my opinion, this short story was metaphorical and open for interpretation. The author touches on personal identity and how we define who we are through tangible objects. He connects this idea of identity to people’s trash, by explaining a hypothetical series of events. What would happen if poor people and rich people’s trash was switched around? This would make people realize that the items they throw away are what defines their life, their past, and who they are. This raises the question as to what should we throw away and what can we live without. People would have a hard time letting go of materialistic things, and yet they still wouldn’t remember family members birthdays or other abstract ideas. Everyone would soon forget
In conclusion, based on the book if someone is going to give a gift they should only give currency or its close substitute. However, in today’s society there is a stigma
The Environmental Protection Agency released the ‘Advancing Sustaining Materials Management: 2014 Fact Sheet’ in November of 2016 and Americans produce 4.4 pounds of trash every single day.
“Barter” by Sara Teasdale is a poem about exchanging items of value for items of want or need. The author begins the first as well as the second stanza by telling us “Life has loveliness to sell” repeating this two times makes sure we realize the value of the life we have. “Music like a curve of gold,” Listing items that have great value to her in both stanzas brings the value to reality as we continue to read. After two stanzas, she tells us “Spend all you have for loveliness” to let us know that spending the very items we treasure is what we need to do. She continues to explain “For one white singing hour of peace” is worth everything if it is what you need. The poem ends by telling us “Give all you have been, or could be.” Reminding us
Main Point2: Robert Orben, a comedian writer states “There 's so much pollution in the air now that if it weren 't for our lungs there 'd be no place to put it all”. As a result, we should we should start recycling and stop leaving trash behind. This is significant because the problem of not recycling causes pollution. Pollution we create is harming the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink.
They state in the article that "Americans produce more than four pounds of trash and recycles only about a third of that amount."(Paragraph 3, Scentance 2.) By that logic, we keep taking and throwing away so senslessly that in a matter of time I fear that our world will be overun with garbage.
In our homes waste caused because we don’t pay attention; we are inattentive and ignorant. For some of us, it just isn’t important. (Jones, Dive!)
(Amaral). The lack of proper disposal of trash is contributing to the existing problem of plastic pollution. Without changing our habits, the garbage patch will only continue to grow (Kostigen).
There are some reasons for the problem. The first reason is that the effects of the thrown rubbish are very dangerous and extremely harmful. According to Miller (1987), global industrial organizations produce over 80,000 different chemicals (para. 5). Basically, garbage is old, dirty and wet, so that it is a perfect place for bacteria and other viruses to stay in. Rubbish growth in cities has been a problem all over the world for centuries. Landfills have always been regarded as sources of illnesses and unpleasant smells. The harmful wastes from the garbage spread through the ground from paint, chemicals, petrol, batteries, and other toxic materials that have been thrown away into the garbage. The toxic chemicals get into the water pipes and spread through the people’s drinking water. Another reason of that problem is that people have created all these disasters, which are connected with environmental pollution. The more modern technologies are created, the more unbelievable become wastes and remains of what is produced. From this, man is responsible for what he or she created and for the following consequences. Anxieties about the environment have made people more aware of their environmental footprints or the kind of waste they leave behind during their existence. The difficulty is that an average person leaves an incredible amount of wastes in his or her lifetime. According to Lovejoy (1912), all biodegradable substances, contained in
