The parable that Wallace shared conveyed a hard message to swallow— the toughest realizations that we as humans must face in life are the ones that seem the most painfully obvious. In the parable, an older, perhaps wiser fish introduces the aspect of ‘water’ to the younger, naive fish. While it is obvious to humans that fish flourish in water, it is impossible to claim that fish are aware of the reality of their environment. Therefore, it is reasonable to see how the proposed situation of the fish coming across an insightful perspective would seem inconceivable to the fish, to the point that they might not understand or have the capacity to believe it. A situation analogous to the fishes’ would be the movie, The Truman Show. In the movie,
-“The Best Place on Earth, Seahaven Voted Planet's Top Town,” this headline was trying to convince Truman that there's no better place than Seahaven.
The way that Holden copes with his isolation is not effective while the way Truman copes with his isolation is effective.
In The Truman Show the newspaper headlines are used to help persuade or control what Truman does. In the headline, “ Seahaven the Best Place on Earth” it is telling Truman that Seahaven is has been proven to be the best place on Earth. This is trying to convince Truman that why should he leave when he lives in the best place on Earth. In the headline “ Who Needs Europe” is telling Truman that Seahaven, like in the last headline, is the better than anywhere else like Europe, so why would be want to go to europe? In the last headline, “ Crackdown on Homeless” this is showing Truman that the man that looked like his father isn’t his father. This is meant to convince him that his life isn’t fake because the father incident started everything.
The Truman show was all based around his life, it actually WAS his life but to others, he was only the entertainment for what people wanted to watch on T.V. It could be shown that, ‘millions’ of people were watching the Truman show and they really seemed to be more intrigued in Truman’s life than their own. The really represents the modern life of people even though this movie was filmed more than 10 years ago, the people shown are shown exactly the same how people act in the 2017. In the Truman show, everything about Truman’s life is good, he has a good job, he has a wife, he has nothing to fear because the creators won’t ever harm him. Truman’s life is what others wish for because everyone just wants and wants but never sees what they already have and the idea of a reality show of a person’s life where they are living in a perfect world, who wouldn’t want to watch that show and imagine themselves there instead of the reality they live in. This generation of people have a lot of insecurities, the question of ‘ Am I normal ‘always comes up, and to find out, so we rummage through the internet ( youtube videos, in real life twitch streams ) for any way we can compare our own lives to others. In the Truman show, this can be seen where people are watching the show with such an interest that they forget where they are, working at the bar, being a security and just sitting in a bathtub for hours, all because they want to be all up in someone else’s life. This can be seen in the
The film The Truman Show portrays an array of the ways of knowing continuously throughout. One of these ways can easily be deciphered as intuition. The essential gut feeling can swallow up any other reliable source solely because of a certain unexplainable phenomena pulling the heart and mind in polar directions. Initially, it is Truman’s intuition that over powers his refuting thoughts and this is demonstrated when Truman explains his theory to Marlon, who then proceeds to invalidate it. This leaves Truman empty handed and with a lack of reliable sources, except his intuition.
Self reflexive films such as the Truman Show, which deal with the omnipotence of the media in their satire, dissecting the format of reality television by playing with unreflective notions of cinematic reality and role of music in their construction.
Watching The Truman Show, one can easily begin to notice underlying social issues portrayed throughout this film. Social constructions are obvious throughout the environment of the film. Habitualization and internalization become relevant theories when observing the audience who play a large role in the movie. Focusing on theorists’ Berger and Luckmann, this review will critically analyze this theory of social construction, focusing on the impact media has in this film and universally in the United States of America.
In a similar vein, the notion of a little guy campaign against the big guy while coming out on top is present in Peter Weir’s, The Truman Show. Also a film about fantasy that offers analysts many talking points concerning the audiences portrayed in the film. Once more, the viewers of the film know more about the narrative structure than the characters as they take on a new confrontation. In The Truman Show, Jim Carrey’s character sparks a romantic interest with Sylvia in high school. Viewers take on this ‘God’ like role and have an all-seeing eye that can see the reality of Truman’s life for what it is and this is only furthered as the story progresses. The film acts as a representation for what audiences are watching and how the structure
Imagine from the minuet you were born you had your whole life recorded and streamed live for the rest of the world to see. The change in attitude towards the fish begins on line 22, where the speaker uses diction to describe the struggle and condition the fish is in. “While his gills were breathing in the terrible oxygen -- the frightening gills”(22). Usually when we think of oxygen, it is valuable because it's necessary for us to live. However, in this case to a fish it’s the opposite. The use of terrible helps the reader to image the fish trying to stay alive and why the speaker is concerned. Also uses imagery to describe the fish’s struggle “Grim, wet, and weaponline, hung five old pieces of fish line… and a wire leader with the swivel still attached”(50). The fish broke free of five fish lines, has a
The overall situation in “The Fable of the Three Fish” is an analogy for school because the fish’s personalities can be expressed in students attitudes and behaviors. An example would be “‘I don’t know about you two, but I’m getting out of here now before they get back.’”; a student trying to avoid trouble. Another personality statement is “‘I’ll have plenty of time to get away from the fisherman before they can catch me.’”; a student who waits till the last minute to start projects or homework. Those two personalities are called proactive and inactive. There is one more personality which is called reactive.
The quote, “Television, with insatiable hunger for material, has made celebrities into content.” relates to Truman because he is used for content. Truman was forced to be in the television show, and Christof wanted more material to make the show more interesting. When Truman goes “missing” they had to stop the show and everyone is upset about it except for Christof, he says “We're getting higher ratings for this graphic than we've ever had on this

The lesson of this story is that you should keep doing what you love even if it's a hard long journey and not to care if people don't believe you are able to achieve what your goal and that their will always be that one person that will help and support you and help to success
The Truman Show is a movie about a television show staring Truman Burbank, an average, ordinary man who has no clue that he is the star of a television show. His entire existence is within a giant dome, and all the people in the small town are actors, including his best friend, mom, dad, and wife. Overseeing this giant production is “The Truman Show” creator, director and screenwriter, Christof. Immediately, we can see that the movie is clearly a retelling of “The Allegory of the Cave”. Moreover, it explains the dilemma of free will and determinism, and giver a visual for the common contemporary view of God. Before addressing the dilemma of free will and determinism, we need to look at Christof’s role in Truman’s life.
