Last fall semester, Francis was in my MATH 118 course. During that time, I saw that he had potential to do great things. When I met with him this year, I could see his growth, and that he is heading in the right direction. So I am pleased to recommend Francis as a math tutor for the Tutoring Center, for I know that he has the knowledge and skills for this position. Francis’ first qualification is his academic performance. He was involved in the class discussions by providing answers to problems and asking questions. He worked well during group work. He was not simply there, he was an active member. For example, I recall him coming to my office on behalf of his team to get advice on their project. As well, his final grade was an A, which
Do you think that a wish can make you lose someone you love dearly? In the “Monkey’s Paw” by W.W Jacobs a family is torn apart when a cursed paw is given to Mr. White is the most responsible for Herbert’s death, will be seen through several examples from the text.
I interviewed Dr. Johnson who is an administrator at AW Brown Fellowship Charter School. We discussed a conflict she encountered with the pre-K 3 teacher and her teacher assistant (TA). The pre-K 3 teacher was a returning teacher. She had done an outstanding job with the 3 year olds the previous year. Everyone was impressed on how well she had done being a first year teaching. The TA was a new hire, her first year teaching.
1. The only change in the classroom was all of the children special notes from their parents, "My child is Special because" The teacher posted them on all them were posted on the door.
Today I had the opportunity of observing a left above the knee amputation, which is removal of a body part. This patient was a diabetic with neuropathy and had a wound for several years in his left leg that was severely infected, which was compromising blood flow to his left leg. First, the patient was sedated with general anesthesia followed by prepping and scrubbing the patients skin. Thereafter, the surgeons marked lines on the patient’s skin to guide them in what areas to incise the skin. As the surgeons, were cutting through the skin, I saw that they carefully divided the muscles and clamped then cut the blood vessels to stop the bleeding. Once they reached the femoral bone, the surgeons then used a bone saw to transect the bone. Once
I had an opportunity to meet the ELL teacher who is responsible for educating ELL students in the district. She allowed me to observe her teaching a couple of students at Brighton Elementary School. The teacher informed me that she teaches ELL students using Scholastic books and a Scholastic app. Additionally, the scholastic app is usually used to help students replace missing words in a sentence, assist students with pronunciation, punctuation, & comprehension. While I was observing her class, the students would click on a word and the computer would pronounce the word for them. This is a really good way for students to learn how to pronounce words accurately. I also observed her using several strategies to facilitate these students’ understanding of English as a second language, for instance, she mentioned one strategy for capital letters “you step on gas” and another for periods “you brake”. Another strategy that she uses when teaching them to write sentences is “Mr. Space”, which is the size of a Popsicle stick, and it allows the students to put appropriate spaces between each of their words. The students are required to take a test at the end of the year to measure their progress. Students are supposed to show growth and progress and this data is communicated to the student's parents.
One of the ways that the students from the Primary school was assessed was by a technique called wave 3 intentions that the teacher’s assistant take lead on. With this technique the teacher’s assistant gives one to one testing to the students. After the testing the assistant measure to see the understanding that the students have. After this is done the assistant reports back to the head teacher the findings. And finally the head teacher takes action to see what they can do to better the student. From the video it also seen how the teacher use visuals to help the students count. The teacher had the students in a small group on the carpet the students worked on counting objects and also using their fingers to count.
After completing the SOLOM teacher observation assignment I received great information about where my student stands and what areas he has room for improvements so that I can better his learning. My student has great comprehension skills. This is definitely his strongest skill out of the other four. He understood all directions given to him. He did have trouble understanding one word on his quiz so he asked his teachers for help. Under comprehension, I would give him a 4. He was able to understand what the teacher was saying and had no trouble on neither his quiz or test. If he was able to comprehend his quiz fully I would have given him a 5.
During the observation of Morning Meeting, I noticed that my mentor teacher separated the children by gender when the calendar helper counted the number of boys and the girls in the classroom. My mentor teacher asked the calendar helper to have either the boys or girls stand up first to be counted. When the children are getting ready to go outside or to the bathroom, the teacher has also the boys and girls in separate lines. I felt that there were other characteristics for the teacher to separate the children. For example, she could she could have asked the children stand up or line up based on their eye color, hair color, the color of their clothing, their favorite animal, or even the first letter of their name. If my teacher broadened the
At the end of the lesson Students are going to be able to describe where they live using the verb "vivir" and "tener" in Spanish. During unit two, they been using the these verbs and in the beginning of the lesson they answer the "Do NOw" activity where I asked then: ?Donde tu vives? They answer the question in Spanish and used the verb in the correct tense. After that, they answer a listening question where they had to identify the part of the house using the vocabulary proposed at the beginning of the lesson. Finally, they started a project where they had to create a Floor plan and describe their ideal house. For this activity, they have to use the verb "tener" in present tense. The completion of these activities ensures the acquisition of the new vocabulary and the verbs tense. It is important to mention, that this lesson will continue next week because students need more time to complete their DOL activity.

I felt the implementation of my lesson went very smoothly. For the introduction of my lesson, I had students interact with the smart board to practice addition problems and moving manipulatives to get correct answers. The smart board was acting up during this time, and I would say that was the only part of the implementation that did not go smoothly. The rest of the lesson, I helped students practice word problems and create and move manipulatives using kidspiration. This all went very well.
Classroom observation is a main approach of teaching research. Scholars or researchers use video to record the real whole class and observe the teachers and students’ actions, words and the efficiency in the class. Though the observation, they analyze what approach is more suitable. This paper will select video 5 and video 3 as the material to do the classroom observation. Different aspects such as teachers’ responds, questions, instructions notes and students’ behavior will be addressed to analyze the efficacy of this class.
Conducting classroom observations are very important to the prospective teacher. Observing helps show how experienced teachers manage their classroom. For this observation it was important to notice how the classroom was arranged, how the teacher interacted with the students, the teacher’s management style, and interview the teacher.
In December of 2014 I was given the opportunity to tutor second and third graders at Jonathan Elementary School. Once a week, for five weeks, I would assist Mrs. _?__ with her students in Math. Throughout tutoring, it was her goal for her students to meet the standards of the class and to catch up with the other students. This became my goal too, and I wanted to help her achieve this. Each week, Mrs ? would review the material with the students and afterwards split them into two groups. It was my responsibility to work with one of the groups by going in depth and providing example questions. Not only did I learn from her techniques, I also knew what her expectations were. It was challenging starting out since in other volunteer roles, my
When going off to college, choosing where to live is an important factor. One must choose to live on-campus or off-campus. This decision is one that a person must choose wisely. Where a person will choose to live will depend on their personal preferences. The differences in each choice will help one decide. Where a student chooses to live will be based on what best suits them and their personality. There are many good and bad things about living on and off campus.
