The first amendment states your basic liberties. It is one of the most important bills in the bill of rights. These basic liberties are freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, and freedom to petition the government. This amendment also has a lot of historical significance and there are a lot of court cases today that involve this amendment. There are also quite a few current issues involving the first amendment.

The first amendment is the most important part of the Constitution because it has been the most exercised right by U.S citizens. First amendment states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” Meaning, as citizens, the Constitution protects our freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly and petition the government. This amendment is a good reflection of what America represents, equality for all.

The first amendment is the by far one of the most important amendments in the bill of rights, it grants citizens freedom of speech, press, assembly, and freedom of religion. Without these essential freedoms we would not be able to speak freely, worship freely, and we would not be able to critique our government or those in positions of power, etc. The first amendment states:

Looking back one year from today, I would not have been able to determine what the amendments were or even tell of their location, basically, I was as naïve as most people are. However, through my school year for the last one year, my civic education has gone a long way to help me understand and further relate to the twenty-seven amendments. Amendments are a major part of our constitution. An amendment is an article added to the U.S Constitution. There are 27 amendments in all. In my opinion, the most important amendment to our United States Constitution is the fifteenth amendment. That amendment has made a big difference in the U.S, and it has benefitted many people especially minorities. The fifteenth amendment guarantees all people the right to vote regardless their color, race or previous condition of servitude.

Although all of the ten amendments in the Bill of Rights are important, two of the amendments that made a huge impact in United States history are the first and second amendments. These amendments not only shaped many events from 1790 - 1820, but continue to influence recent history, as well. The Bill of Rights was ratified December 15, 1791, with the first amendment giving us the freedom of speech, religion, and press, and the second amendment giving us the right to bear arms.

In 1787 The constitution was written in attempt to stabalize the states and create a more perfect Union. Delegates that wrote the constitution payed really close attention not to give the government too much power and protect the citizen's rights (this in the constitution is known as the Bill of Rights). The Bill of Rights are the very first Ten amendments of the constitution. In my opinion the most important amendments in the Bill of Rights are the 1st, 2nd 3rd and 14th amendment (although it isn't technically in the Bill of Rights). The purpose of the 27 amendments is to have laws that protect the people by the government. In order to amend the Constitution the Congress must propose a new amendment and ⅔ of the Senate and House of Representatives must pass the bill. After that, the proposed amendment is sent to the state and the state legislature can choose to ratify or reject it. ¾ of the state must ratify the amendment for it to be added to the Constitution. The first ten amendments is called the Bills of Rights and its purpose is to protect the rights of the individual and limit the government’s power over the citizens.

There are 27 amendments to this nation’s constitution. The first ten of these amendments make up the Bill of Rights and these are what make the United States the free country it is today. On this sacred document the words respecting an establishment, freedom, and peaceably are used to create a free yet lawfully government for the citizens of America. Citizens in a free society are responsible for respecting others, obeying federal and national laws, and to be aware of their actions and the country’s actions.

When the constitution was first made, a few people called the Anti-Federalists demanded that we had a bill of rights so that the government would take over at any moment. The bill of rights had originally 10 amendments, which still exist today. The most important amendment to me, is the first. It states that citizens have freedom of speech,press,religion,assembly and petition. This amendment has affected my life, affects our nation, and it also isn’t obeyed by everyone at all times.

The Bill of Rights is so important to protecting our basic rights because it has them in the Bill of Rights. Without the Bill of Rights, the country would be considered a monarchy because that people have no power and all the power is going to the government. The most important amendment to me is “Freedom of speech,religion.assembly”. This is really important to me because I have big religion based beliefs and if I'm told to follow a religion and I have no choice to follow it or not I would not like it. I want freedom of speech because I want to be able to explain my opinion to everyone and not be sent to jail for it. This affects my daily lie because I'm expressing my religion beliefs every day.
