- The United States government was built on democracy and freedom. Today, the United States has twenty-seven amendments that protect the American citizens on a daily basis. “The First Amendment affects our daily lives by ensuring that as individuals in a free, democratic society we have the freedom to voice our opinions, criticisms, objections and passions largely free from government interference” (First Amendment Center). The most important amendment of the United States is the First Amendment because it gives the citizens of the United States freedom to be and do what they wish to do as long as it does not inflict on anyone else's rights.

It includes having the ability to speak out against the government, school system, political and religious beliefs. For example, if an American citizen does not agree with the school system and how it runs, they have the right to speak out against it, in an attempt to bring attention to it. Another example would be the recent Presidential Election in November of 2016. President Donald Trump is one of the most controversial presidents. The Constitution and the Amendments are two very important documents that are needed in order to keep the people of America in order. The purpose of the Constitution is to, “form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity” (Constitution Preamble). The purpose of the Bill of Rights and the 17 Amendments, bringing the total to 27, are to protect the rights of the people of America and to prevent the government from having full control over the people.

The Bill of Rights contains 10 amendments that were designed to protect the people and prevent an over powerful government. There are 3 amendments that are absolutely needed in order for the government to protect the people. That being said the 3 amendments that the people absolutely need are the 1st, 10th, and 2nd amendments. We need the 1st amendment because without freedom of speech, press, assembly, religion, and petition, there is no personal liberty, and without it, we wouldn’t be allowed to disagree with the government. The 10th amendment prohibits the government from becoming too large and taking over the states, and that’s important because without that, the government could easily take over the United States, and not be punished.

The Ten Amendments built the foundation for our country, but the one the amendment that makes us who we are as Americans in my opinion is the First Amendment. As Americans, we all like to boast how we have the Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, and our Freedom to Assemble. So, how could any of this be possible without the First Amendment?
The hysteria over the Las Vegas shooting has prompted people to seek for stricter gun control. Michael Moore has taken the initiative and proposed the twenty-eighth amendment, with the intention to make it more difficult for people to access and misuse guns. This amendment will pose a hindrance on the state of Arizona, if it passes, because people will no longer be able to use guns in times of needs, they run the risk of not being well equipped if the government decides to take over and they will be to stripped of their right to bear arms.

In total, America has 27 Amendments but which one do i believe is the most important , well that's what this is about. I believe the first Amendment is the most important out of them all . The first amendment is freedom of religion , speech, press, assembly , petition Freedom of speech and religion are the best things a country can have and also something everyone believes they should have. Over the years many people have suffered from not being able to practice their region without being threatened or hurt. Also many people were afraid to express their thoughts and ideas.
Amendments listed in the United States Constitution are the backbone of our country. Our main liberties are listed in the first amendment; “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” (Baltell) These freedoms give citizens of the United States a chance to have rights and have them be ensured by the highest law of the land. Citizens’ rights give the people opportunities that many other governments do not give their constituents. Rights in judicial cases are all listed in the 6th-8th amendments and list the right to a jury, a fair speedy trial and a right to a defense provided by from the court. These rights are important because if one is committed of a crime then one is ensured many freedoms during the entire court case. U.S. citizens also have voting rights listed in the 14th and 19th amendments. Having the ability to vote for executive positions in the government and having a voice are the most significant parts of our democracy to ensure a fair system.
