Have you ever been on a road trip on an interstate? How did you feel? I bet you felt tired or bored of looking at an endless sea of cars for miles on end. In this case you might be thinking to yourself that you should had taken the more scenic route. I think small two-lane roads are much better than trying to point A to point B. Roads like these do not have the same fast food places at every corner like a big city. These kinds' of road represents America. Route 66 is one of most well known blue roads in North America. This route took hundreds of thousands of people from Chicago all the way to Santa Monica, California, from the 1920's until 1985 when it was officially removed from the highway system. When I am on those kinds' of roads
Loud, crowded, and boring is what I would call an interstate, would you personally enjoy driving on an interstate or a highway? Well most people take the interstate because it's much faster, but where is the fun in that? To me, an interstate are not faster but they are much more enjoyable. Also, the author of the article "The Best Highway of America is on the Blue Highways" states his opinion on how route 66 represents America and his evidence is quite effective.
I am sure that everyone of you have heard about aliens and UFOs. Indeed, we all have heard about the famous case of aliens and UFOs in Roswell, New Mexico. Most people might be interested in the topic of aliens, but I know that the majority of you just think of it as rumours and the existence of them are impossible. Therefore, I am standing here in front all of you to make you change your perspective. I am strongly confident that I have found the evidence of their real existence to convince all of you.
Picture this, you are in an unsafe environment where you are receiving death threats from public officials and being publicly beaten by your military. With nowhere else to go you desperately seek the asylum of a neighboring country and, with no thought or any consideration, you are abruptly turned away, and forced to stay where your life is in danger. This is the fate of Mexican journalist Javier Valdez, and many other Mexican citizens in need of help from the US. By putting up a wall, the US is to blame for many lives living in danger south of the US border. The US should not build a wall along the border shared with Mexico.
In order to avoid bad roads as much as possible, drivers must plan his or her route and
First, he talks about how he was born in Roll, Missouri right on Rout 66. Route 66 stretched from Chicago to Santa Monica, California in the 1920's. Unfortunately it was removed from the highway system in 1985. Next, he discussed about how Route 66 was the highway that people called The Main Street of America or The Mother Road. Back then, everyone took Route 66 to get across America just on two lanes. This is the most famous highway in history. This is said because you do not have to get off
Interstate roads are flat and straight with nothing to look at therefore, blue highways are curvy and interesting: Things around every corner, Small shops, Rivers, and Hills. Americans drove route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica in the 20's."THE" roads to travel was the
The setting takes place in an apocalyptic future where a road is no longer a means to get from one place to another, but is a remembrance of the past. The roads are one of the few things that couldn’t be destroyed by whatever disaster destroyed the earth, and the father and son spent most of their time on a road leading to the coast. As a place for travel, the road is a place of both peace and danger. In the novel it comes to symbolize the drive to
A drive through it promised an exhilarating pilgrimage, giving one an opportunity to experience the unusual and discover the unknown. The giant Carnival Midway, for example, was a corridor that was characterized by gaudy roadside attractions and neon signs that were embraced by the travelers as a thrilling diversion from ordinary life (Illinois 66). The entire experience was captivating right from the cornfields of Illinois, passing diverse environs such as the Grand Canyon to the sunshine and golden sands of the Los
To begin with, the highway is symbolism referring to the path of light. A highway is a straight road that is well marked to keep people from wandering astray, much like the Bible is to a Christian. When the family in the story begins their journey they are headed to Florida on a state highway, no dangers are found and all is well and there is a calm mindset. O’Connor draws attention to this euphoria writing “She said she thought it was going to be a good day for driving, neither too hot nor too cold” and “She pointed out interesting details of the scenery: Stone Mountain; the blue granite that in some places came up to both sides of the highway; the brilliant red clay banks slightly streaked with purple; and the various crops” (par. 8) . This gives the reader a sense of calamity;
Route 66, is very unique and fascinating. It is an amazing highway filled with astonishing places the whole trip down it. Route 66 is the definition of America. Some people do not want to take the interstate because of all the traffic and it is boring because around every turn there are just more cars and more buildings. That is why some people prefer taking Route 66 to see more and do more stuff.
This route was so important to some of America’s older generations. As Kulman wrote, “If Manifest Destiny opened up the West in the 19th century, Route 66 was the way to get there in the 20th” (¶ 2). This might be one of the truest things about the route. Even my mother says that she remembers how well traveled Route 66 was and that she actually took summer trips on it as a kid. The highway was full of small towns that full of kind, neighborly people that would stop to make sure that no one needed help with a flat tire (Kulman ¶ 10). However, how did this highway become so popular? Maybe it had something to do with the alliteration of its name, Highway 66. In 1926, the name was voted on by local supporters and they all agreed on 66 (¶ 12). Also, in the same year Henry Ford lowered the price of cars, pushing our nation to build better roads (Wallis ¶ 8). In reality, Highway 66 got lucky for how popular it actually it became. Shortly after the opening of Highway 66, the Great Depression hit, and then America entered into the Second World War. However, the business along the road had survived through all of these hardships (¶ 14). Then in 1946 Bobby Troup wrote the very popular “Get your Kicks on Route 66” only adding to the large amounts of travel on this road. As Wallis
That was incredible. The author states that when you are riding on an interstate that there is not really much that you could see and explore, but on Route 66 there is not many beautiful and outstanding things you can see and visit. You could see Gelena's mining and historic museum, cars on the route, Galena's haunted Bordello, Marsh rainbow arch bridge, Baxter Springs,and so many other astonishing attractions. It is not always about what you see when you are driving it about making memories with the people that you are with while you are driving. For example you could be with friends, family, or even college room mates going on a road trip to some where you could take Route 66 to get to where you are
Shopping for the car is something everyone must learn because there are many factors that must be considered because beside purchasing a house purchasing a car is the second biggest purchase must people make and the purchase of the wrong car can affect you in so many ways.
When driving, sometimes it is difficult to focus on the road which makes it easy to forget that the roads are shared by everyone and not for your exclusive use.
For example, using a leftover coffee can for loose nails or screws, or even washing and reusing a plastic zip-loc bag instead of throwing it in the garbage. Thrift shopping is a way of reusing someone else’s unwanted goods. As I spoke about in an earlier speech about thrifting, I included many locations and ways to thrift, also the benefits to the shopper and the donator. One place in particular was shopping at the local boys and girls club. I personally shop there, keeping my eyes open for a good deal. For example, the pair of jeans that I am wearing today was purchased from this store just a few months ago. I paid only $8.00 for this pair of Lucky Jeans and according to buckle.com, a retailer for lucky jeans the retail price is $99.00 that is a savings to me of $91.00.I am not the type to worry about name brands, but quality usually does cost more. If I can get a quality pair of jeans at a fraction on the price, I am glad to shop at the thrift store. I am thankful to the person that made the donation of the lucky jeans and they can benefit from that donation. According to the IRS webpage, IRS. Gov it explains that an individual can donate items like clothing, household furniture and furnishings, a car or boat, even taxidermy. The donations are appraised, by the donator, and recorded. At the time of filing taxes if the donation equals at least $500 for the year, the donator may take advantage of the
