By definition, Islam is a religion of those who obey the doctrines of the Prophet Muhammad. Muhammad, who in the 7th century lived in Arabia, initiated a religious movement that throughout the Middle East was supported by the Arabs. Today, not only in Middle East origins, Islam has adherents, where it is the dominant religion in all countries (Non-Arab, and Arab), but also in other parts of Africa, Asia and, of course, as well as in the United States. Those who are loyal to Islam are called Muslims. The Sunni, Shiite conflict in Iraq started long before the ruling of Saddam Hussein, but when Hussein became Prime Minister of the country the conflict between the two religious sects was taken to a new level. Right when Hussein gained full power, under his control, began years of persecution of the Shiite Muslims in the country. But, before this happened, the conflict was based upon Muhammad and who was to rule after he had died. When Muhammad had died there were many disputes on who should succeed the Prophet Muhammad after his death in 632. Shiites believed that the prophet’s son-in-law, Ali, was to be the successor. Both consider the Koran the word of God. But, devoutness and religious practice distinguish between the two sects. However, Islam teaches that all Islam is equal so Sunni and Shiite sects fight with each other not only because of “hatred” but, also because of religious

Muslims believe that God revealed holy books or scriptures to a number of God's messengers. Islam are the second largest of the three major monotheistic religions. Muslims believes that Quran is God's word. As us being Christian we are a believer in Jesus Christ and his teachings. But to us Christians means different things like you can be consider as nation you came from or the Christian family, or the relationship you have between God. We are different because we accept God's gift of salvation, our life be characterized by love for others and obedience to God's word.

Islam was the main religion their denominations were based on. They believed in the same God, Allah, and in the same holy book, The Quran. The Sunni and Shia both believed in the same components of the Islamic belief and articles of faith. They used established institutions like madras, brotherhood lodges and ulama. The five Pillars of Faith was another shared belief. These includes the shahadan, which is the testimony of God’s unity and prophet hood of Muhammed; salat, which means daily prayer, zakat, saum, and hajj, which means to make pilgrimage to Mecca
The Sunni and Shia conflict is currently the longest running feud in the world. Both groups possess an extreme hatred for one another. Over the years, these two groups have openly expressed their hatred with one another through violent killings. This split between the Shia and Sunni originates all the way back in the 7th century. Their difference was based on political differences. As a part of my essay I will explain the difference and origins of the split between the Shi’a and Sunni and also cover the current issues between them.
There are five major religions of the world, of those five major religions, one claims to be the youngest; this religion is called Islam. Although Islam may be the youngest religion, that does not stop it from being the second largest religion. “A follower of the religion of Islam is called a "Muslim" which means "one who is in submission to the divine will."(Religion of Islam).A Muslim believes in only one god meaning they are monotheistic, their one god is called Allah. The Islamic community believes very strongly in their holy book, the Quran; that sometimes laws are written off of their religious beliefs. A Muslim believes that Allah sends different prophets
A lot of people compare the differences between Sunni and Shiite Muslims with differences between Protestants and Catholics, but are these even in the same category? There’s some validity there, though religious comparisons are dicey. The obvious similarity is that both are divisions within great world religions. However, Islam is basically divided in two whereas Christianity has four segments, adding in Orthodox churches and indigenous churches in the developing world that are independent of western Protestantism. Both the Sunni-vs.-Shiite and Catholic-vs.-Protestant rivalries involve competing beliefs about religious authority. Catholicism gives the reigning pope and bishops who share “apostolic succession” with him the right to interpret
Shia Islam: Shia Islam encompasses most Muslims who are not counted the Sunni. The division between Sunni and Shia, dates to the death of the prophet Mohammed when his followers were faced with the decision of who would be his successors as the leader of Islam’s. Shiites are those followed Ali, the closest relatives of Mohammed, as Muhammad’s successor. Today there are approximately 120 million Shiite Muslims in the world.
The Sunnis and Shiites are sects of Islam and the adherents of both are Muslims, all bound by the same Quran, the same Five Pillars of Islam — belief in one God, daily prayer, fasting, charity and hajj, or pilgrimage. Both revere the Prophet Mohammed, who founded Islam in 620. Sunni Muslims regard themselves as the orthodox and traditionalist branch of Islam.

Is peace possible in the Middle East? This question weighs heavy on the minds of many individuals and international players. Turmoil and conflict in the Middle East not only affects the people inhabiting this region, but also has global consequences. To answer this question, one must analyze the sources of conflict in the Middle East, historically, currently, and in the future. The limited amount of natural resources in this region has arguably served as the most major source of conflict in the Middle East. Other contributing factors to conflict are the leadership styles of the key players in positions of power, and religious strife. History is often the best indicator for the future. Unfortunately, the Middle East has had a history of
There are many differences and similarities between the beliefs of Muslims who follow Sunni, Shi’ite and Sufi Islam. Both the Sunni & Shi’ite sects of Islam were formed in 632 CE and the Sufi Sect was formed in 675 CE. All three sects originated in the Middle East, worship Allah and use the Qur’an as their sacred text. Immediately after the death of the Prophet Muhammed the Sunni sect was formed and comprised of believers who did not support the belief that Muhammad’s cousin & son-in-law Ali should be leader. They instead believe that Muhammad did not specifically appoint a successor to take his place as leader of the Muslim community. They believe that a group of his most prominent companions elected Abu Bakr Siddique, Mohammad’s father-in-law,
The first thing that one should know and clearly understand about Islam is what the word "Islam" itself means. The religion of Islam is not named after a person as in the case of Christianity which was named after Jesus Christ, Buddhism after Gotama Buddha, Confucianism after Confucius, and Marxism after Karl Marx. Nor was it named after a tribe like Judaism after the tribe of Judah and Hinduism after the Hindus. Islam is the true religion of "Allah" and as such, its name represents the central principle of Allah's "God's" religion; the total submission to the will of Allah "God". The Arabic word "Islam" means the submission or surrender of one's will to the only true god worthy of worship "Allah" and anyone who does so is termed a
