Tyler is an average kid that just causes trouble, he doesn't like when people try to tell him what to do. This plays a big part in the book because one of the worst decisions he made was to vandalize the school. The reason for this was to show the school and the school authority that he didn't care about them and they couldn't stop him from doing what he wanted to do. He tried to do it to be funny, as a prank, he didn't know that he would soon be in a lot of trouble by a lot of different people. He spray painted on the school crude remarks of the manhood of principal Hughes and proclaimed the superiority of the junior class.
Trurth is Holden wants to get kicked out of school because he’s not dumb. He's forced into schools he doesn't want to be at with people he doesn't want to be around
He required some academic help and a better sense of self-worth.” So a tutor was strongly advised and Daisy and Matt just agree to hire one, wanting only the best for Donny. This not only was a mistake to hire Cal but it also cost them a fortune too. I feel Donny’s parents should have dealt with his problem. All he needed was parents that just had time to talk to him and give him a little leeway at times. Communication is a downfall displayed in Tyler’s short story that is very realistic of parenting that always leads to bigger problems. It is so common for parents to be too busy with their jobs and lives to give their children all the attention and love needed. I feel Tyler truly conveyed a real life message in writing Teenage Wasteland. It was very disturbing to see throughout the story how Cal, the tutor becomes so controlling. Cal at first seemed reasonable in his method of tutoring Donny. Donny came home so happy sometimes after his tutoring sessions. Yet gradually the tension sets in again and Donny is back to his old troublesome self. Cal tells Daisy and Matt not to worry about Donny’s slack of performance. Cal even tells Daisy to let him handle the school if they call and complain about Donny’s grades. Tyler gives me some many different feelings about Cal. Is he a cynical man? Or is he trying his best to help Donny? This is one of the reasons
The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan follows multiple Chinese-American women who struggle with their self-identity and creating a balance between American and Chinese culture. Because of their immigration and many hardships in life, many of the women feel like they cannot truly tell who they are anymore, and throughout the novel these women are portrayed as ghosts. Ghosts are used to symbolize these women because they share many parallels including being only a remnant of who they once were, or who they could be. Ying-ying St. Clair is one of the women, who has a daughter named Lena St. Clair, she has had a troubled past in China, which has made her lose her fighting spirit, and her spirit in general. Ying-ying is fully aware of her loss of spirit and is embarrassed because she considers ghosts to be shameful and weak, and wants to save her daughter, Lena, from her fate.
“The Extra Yard”shows it as verbal bullying. At this point in the story “The Extra Yard” Teddy and other people are trying out for the football team. On page 58 when Teddy was trying out for the football Tyler said this to him “I can’t believe such an idiot is trying out for football… you know they only pick good people right so why do you even waste their time”. This piece of evidence shows verbal bullying because Tyler did not touch Teddy, but he still made him feel hurt because he was saying mean things to him. Another piece of evidence is on page 84 when Tyler says this to Teddy after he makes the team “You know they just picked you because they felt bad for you right… never going to play in a real game because you are just going to make us lose”. This also is verbal bullying because he uses words to hurt Teddy’s
Some might say it’s the teen’s fault for not trying hard enough or not caring, but in fact it can be the teacher’s fault. “The poorest teacher I had was algebra teacher from (name of school removed) High School. She never helped students that needed the extra help. She would just point and laugh at us if we didn’t know the answer. Sometimes she would throw rocks at me cause I used to comb my hair funny and because of that my feelings were hurt. I start listening to depeche mode music by myself in they dark (student drew an unhappy face at the end of the story)” (Gibson). This is an example of teachers not doing their job correctly. They should be encouraging kids to do well and not demoralizing them. Holden was also looked down upon. As from his teacher’s point of view, “ ..letter from your headmaster, to the effect that you were making absolutely no effort at all” (Salinger 205). He should’ve told Holden ways he could do better instead of expressing his opinion. His teacher believes he does not care about school, since he is a teenager and it is his nature to have other priorities. Contradictory, students in Holden’s time and now blame it on the teachers not being well behaved, not because they are involved with other activities. They both rebel because they’re not giving clear help and guidance. Students go through a time in their life where they explore new realms and want to become adults. They care

The first family we meet has recently lost their son, Tyler, to suicide at the age of 17. Tyler’s dad recounts the way Tyler transformed from being a bubbly child to a loner. Tyler’s dad discusses how he knew that Tyler was getting shoved into lockers and being told to hang himself, and that he understands why Tyler took his own life. Tyler’s mom then shows us Tyler’s old room where he committed suicide, how his younger brother, Troy, found him, and how they changed the room into an office to work on their anti-bullying stuff. Tyler’s parents are both extremely understanding and want to celebrate Tyler’s life by helping others experiencing mistreatment. Unfortunately, the school would not take any responsibility for what happened, dismissing all accusation, and left all bullying unpunished. Even at a town meeting, no representative from the school came to hear
Being known for your achievements can be beneficial in your life. Also, even though you have no desires of getting recognized, it's better to not make yourself act like a hermit crab. Thus, I am against those who prefer to be reclusive in this fascinating and growing world. Through literature and my own experience I can affirm my stance.
He lets out his dominant side by inflicting harm, but at the same time he is being submissive because he is also the one receiving harm. By doing this, the narrator achieved his goal of not being fired, and even received an added bonus, albeit through a very unorthodox method. Arguably, this same concept can be seen at the end of the movie. Despite all the negative things that had happened to Tyler and the narrator throughout the course of the film, they both got what they wanted in the end. Tyler collapses all the bank buildings, and makes the narrator more like him.
It is clear that Tyler’s mother is not a very good one. She does not set a good example for her son and by the looks of it she neglects him which means he most likely has never been taught how to properly behave. The ADL’s that are impacted most by this situation is that along the lines of home skills, school skills, dressing, feeding, grooming, and hygiene. Tyler most likely comes to school in what he wore the day before along with the fact that he has not bathed in a few days. Other children in this situation would probably not want to play with him and that creates an emotional
From this Tyler created a group called Project Mayhem, it's goal was to destroy society so that it could rebuild itself. When the Narrator found this out he went on a mission, with Marla, to
This allows Tyler to control them and ultimately bring his vision into the world: Project Mayhem, a terrorist organization in which the individual has their name taken away and is ordered to deface corporate art, start fights with strangers, never ask questions, and eventually bomb credit card companies. And so, once again, a system of control through conformity is achieved. Both of these systems are harmful, and both are wrong in their own
Initially, the narrator is finding an outlet for the daily pressure and to improve insomnia, and Tyler Durden to him represents this authority-figure who could make everything possible for him and someone who has everything under control. Overtime, the narrator’s reliance on Tyler Durden has only grown stronger. Therefore, it is during the sudden disappearance of Tyler Durden that the narrator is able to get a clear picture of the chaos and disaster they have caused. Together with the narrator, Tyler Durden has created Project Mayhem, a countrywide criminal organization, which prompts anti-consumerism through carrying out vandalism, making mischief, and attempting to reform others through violence. The narrator has lost his job, his boss is dead, police are looking for him, and now Tyler Durden is pushing a gun in his mouth while waiting for the financial centers to blow up. To the narrator, the biggest disaster isn’t the destruction that they have done, but rather, it is the internal conflict with the other personality, Tyler Durden. Therefore, with nothing to lose, he pulls the trigger and shoots himself, with the intention to kill Tyler, to bring an end to this chaos and disaster. “’It’s only after you’ve lost everything,’ Tyler says, ‘that you’re free to do
Tyler is very different from the Narrator in a lot of ways. Tyler doesn 't have a very
