9/11 Attacks
On September 11th, 2001, the worst terror attack on US soil took place. 19 people associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda took 4 airplanes and carried out suicide to kill people in the United States. Two of the planes hit the World Trade Center, another plan hit the pentagon just outside Washington, D.C, and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. These attacks caused massive destruction, forcing the U.S to combat terrorism and “defining the presidency of George W. Bush” (History). 9/11 is one of the most tragic events in the history of America, minute by minute people feared and this fear brought the country together in a way that it never did

‘That is why the deaths were ruled homicide, because the actions of other people caused them to die. The force of explosion and the fire behind them forced them out of the windows.” The attackers were terrorists from Saudi Arabia and many other Arab nations. Osama Bin Laden’s al-Qaeda terrorist organization supposedly orchestrated these attacks, they were acting against Americas support for Israel, our role in the Persian Gulf War, and military presence in the east. Many of the terrorists had lived in America for about a year before the attack. The terrorists smuggled box cutters and knives easily through security making it easy to hijack the planes. Right after takeoff, the terrorists took full control of the planes turning them from normal airliners into weapons. (History) While Millions watched very frightened because of the events in New York, American Airlines Flight 77 went around downtown Washington D.C, and slammed into the west of the Pentagon military headquarters at 9:45 am. Jet fuel from the Boeing 757 caused a devastating flame that led to a collapse of the whole building. After all of this, 125 people were killed in the Pentagon itself while 64 died inside of the airplane. (History) Just about 15 minutes after that terror in Washington D.C occurred, all of the terror in New York took a turn for the worse when the World Trade Center collapsed in a large cloud of just dust and smoke. The steel of the building can hold through 200 mile
September 11, 2001 (herein referred to as 9/11) was a day in American history, which will be remembered as the most horrific attack on American soil. This attack, carried out by nineteen Islamic extremists, was associated with al-Qaeda, and involved the hijacking of four airplanes. Two of those airplanes were hijacked and flown directly into the World Trade Center in New York City, New York. The third plane’s target was the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and the fourth plane was brought down in Pennsylvania where it is believed the passengers aboard fought the hijackers. This horrific day in history cost over 3,000 people their lives, and was labeled the worst attack on American soil since the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II.
The September 11 attacks were the worst acts of terrorism ever carried against the United States. Nineteen terrorists took over commercial jetliners and slammed them into two towers of the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in
There are many theories on what actually happened and who was involved in the 9/11 attack. The most common word is that Islamic terrorists were the main group involved. It is also said that these terrorists were financed by Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda terrorist organization. Which is why he was such a wanted man after the attacks. But it wasn't just the Islamic terrorists who were involved, many say that there were many other Arab nations involved in some way, such as the planning and details.
Less than fifteen minutes after the attack on the Pentagon; things became much worse in New York. The south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed bringing a huge cloud of smoke and dust. The building that could withstand 200 miles per hour winds, could not withstand the heat of the burning jet fuel and eventually the structural steel buckled and collapsed. Within minutes the North tower fell to the same fate. Approximately 3,000 people were killed, both inside the buildings as well as people in the vicinity. An extremely large number of firefighters and paramedics (343), police officers (23), and Port Authority police officers (37) were
September 11, 2001 is one of the most infamous dates in American history. On this day, 19 radicalized Islamic militants hijacked four United States-based airplanes. Two of the planes were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. Thousands of first responders, occupants of the Towers and bystanders were killed or injured. The third plane flew into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and 125 people were killed. The passengers on the fourth plane revolted and forced the hijackers to crash into a field in Stony Creek, Pennsylvania. A total of 3,000 people were killed and over 6,000 were injured that day (“9/11 Attacks” 1). After the most detrimental terrorist attack in the history of the United States, action needed to
It was 8:45 and it was a Tuesday and a group of people had a plane full of 20,000 gallons of gas. Then, the plane crashed the twin towers were about 110 story high and about 80 floors were burned. The plane crashed at the 60th floor and 343 were killed during that plane crash. The second tower was collapsed, too. Only six people survived and others past away people can’t find their bodies because it's only dust.
These terrorists were funded by Saudi fugitive Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda terrorist organization. They were allegedly responding in vengeance for the United States of America’s support of Israel, its sustained military occupancy of the Middle East, and its engagement in the Persian Gulf War. Several of the terrorists had resided in the United States of America for approximately a year and had attended the American commercial flight schools to learn how to fly a plane. Others had smuggled themselves into the country months prior to the September 11 attacks and helped carry out the operation. The nineteen radical Islamic terrorists effortlessly slipped knives and box-cutters straight past security at three different airports on the East Coast and boarded four flights bound for California. These flights were selected for the reason that the aircrafts were weighted with fuel for the long journey across the country. Shortly after the planes took off, the terrorists hijacked the four planes and made their way to the cockpit to control them. This transformed typical commuter airplanes into deadly guided missiles. As millions of people witnessed the events happening in New York, American Airlines Flight 77 flew around downtown Washington, D.C., and crashed into the west side of the Pentagon military headquarters at 9:45 a.m. Jet fuel from the Boeing 757 caused a devastating conflagration that
On the morning of September 11, 2001, an Islamic terrorist group known as al-Qaeda carried out a series of four attacks on the United States. The most well-known attack is when two commercial airline planes crashed into the Twin Towers in New York City. Many innocent lives were lost and families were torn apart. While many Americans were determined to show their resilience towards the attacks, this is a day many Americans will never forget. Although the attacks happened sixteen years ago, Americans are still dealing with the impacts these attacks have had on life in America. The 9/11 attacks have had several long-lasting effects on everyday life in America, some of which include an increase in airport security, a change in national security, and an increase the fear of terrorism.
19 different terrorist boarded 4 different plane with simple box-cutters from security and onto the plane. Soon after taking off they were all able take over the controls and turned them into flying missiles. While the country was in shock of what happened, just a few states away yet another 757 was being flown into the Pentagon. At 9:45 am the capital was shaken up too. 125 military personnel and civilians were killed. 64 of which were on the plane.
There is one group responsible for the events of September 11, 2001. A terrorist Islamic group, al-Qaeda, led by Osama bin Laden, were behind the attacks. Nineteen members of this group took control of four planes. America’s stance in the Persian Gulf War, their occupation in the Middle East, and helping Israel is what caused this group to attack. At American commercial flight schools, members of al-Qaeda had prepared for the attacks by enrolling in flying lessons. The terrorists snuck box cutters and knives through airport security. Not too long after taking off, the terrorists took control of the four planes they boarded. They took over American Airlines Flight 11, United Airlines Flight 175, American Airlines Flight 77, and United Airlines Flight 93.
September 11, 2001, started as a perfect day, but as the day went on, chaos and terror erupted in the streets of New York City. New York’s iconic World Trade Center fell victim to hijacked commercial airlines filled with innocent people. In 102 minutes, the world was forever changed by one of the worst attacks the United States has ever experienced. Many factors made the terrorist attacks of September 11th a day that is permanently etched into the hearts and minds of Americans.
September 11, 2001, millions of New Yorkers and American citizens woke up and started their day, unprepared and unaware for the catastrophic attack that would be taking place in just a few short hours. At 8:46 a.m., Eastern Standard Time, Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower. The impact killed all of the passengers and crew as well as hundreds inside the building. At 9:03 a.m., a second plane, Flight 175, crashed into the corner of the South Tower killing passenger, crew, and workers who worked on floors seventy-five to eighty-three. Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. killing approximately 185 individuals (History.com Staff). Because of the damaged to the support system, fires, and impact at extremely fast speed, the South Tower collapsed at 9:59 a.m. (Lipton and Glanz). Having heard about the acts of terrorism that had just taken place in New York and Washington, D.C., a group of passengers drove their plane, Flight 93, into a Pennsylvania field killing everyone on board but possibly saving hundreds of other lives in the process. The North Tower collapsed at 10:28 a.m. 102 minutes after being struck (History.com Staff). On September 11, 2001, almost twelve hundred people were wounded or killed by “coordinated suicide attempts” by Al Qaeda terrorists. In result to the four airplanes being hijacked and used for premediated reasons, the United States government instituted new regulations for entering the country and airport security as well as expounded on systems already in place.
On September 11, 2001, at 8:45 a.m. on a sunny Tuesday morning, a 767, American Airlines Flight 11, loaded with 20,000 gallons of jet fuel crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City, near the 80th floor of the 110-story skyscraper. Instantly killing hundreds of people. Media streamed it as a freak accident. Then, 18 minutes after the first plane hit, a second 767, United Airlines Flight 175, sliced into the south tower near the 60th floor. The collision caused an explosion that showered burning debris over surrounding buildings and the streets below. America was under attack. However, the attacks performed on September 11, 2001 were not committed by Al-Qaeda but a conspiracy performed by the United States.
The terrorist attacks took place across the northeastern United States. Four planes were hijacked on the morning of September 11th. The first flight that was hijacked was American Airlines Flight 11. It departed from Boston at around 8:00 AM. There were five hijackers aboard the flight. The second plane to be hijacked was United Airlines Flight 175, and departed from Boston as well. There were also five hijackers aboard this flight. American Airlines Flight 77 was the third plane hijacked, and departed from Virginia around 8:20 in the morning. This plane also included five hijackers. Lastly, United Airlines Flight 93 was hijacked around 8:40 AM, and unlike the other flights, only had four hijackers aboard.
The attackers were Islamic terrorists from Saudi Arabia and several other Arab nations. Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda terrorist organization were allegedly acting the U.S. in retaliation for their support of Israel, their involvement in the Persian Gulf War and their military presence in the Middle East. Some of the terrorists lived in the United States for more than a year and had taken flying lessons at American flight schools. The others had snuck into the country in the months before September 11th and were considered the “muscle” in the operation. They smuggled box-cutters and knives through the loose security at three East Coast airports and boarded four different airliners bound for California, they chose these flights because they were filled with jet fuel for the long flight across the country. After takeoff, they raided the cockpit of the planes and took control, doing this turned the normal passenger jets into huge missiles.
