UC Personal Statement The significant academic challenge I have faced, is my learning disability. in all my life I have this challenge, and I can’t run from these struggles. The struggles are from reading to math, and from math going into memory issues that I have to struggle with all my life. it was around third or fourth grade at Juanita Jones Elementary School. My elementary teacher started noticing that I had this learning disorder. I always knew that I had a learning problem. I just didn’t think it was a problem since a lot of kids don’t like learning. I just thought I was one of those kids. Then I started thinking to myself that, “that wasn’t it I take longer to process information like reading, writing, and math problems then other

The greatest academic challenge I have faced to this day was Pre Calculus my Junior year. Math has always been my weakest subject and the one that I need the most help in. Unfortunately, help was something I struggled to find. The friends that I had in the class also struggled to understand the subject matter just as much as I did and were unable to help me themselves. For a long time, I used online resources to try and review the subject matter at home. While I could struggle through my homework by comparing the problem step-by-step with an example, tests and quizzes felt impossible.
My knowledge and experience from attending CSUF and working in the retail/customer service industry has allowed me to better understand the field of Marketing. During my employment at Fullerton College Writing and Tutoring Center, I took on multiple roles. Aside from being the front desk receptionist, where I managed scheduling appointments, I also tutored students on computer fundamentals (MS Office programs, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and emailing). I was responsible for creating flyers for its services and available workshops. I worked closely with the center’s coordinator in developing and posting flyers throughout the campus and on its website.
I would love to pick your brain and/or Eric’s about what you wish you had read or knew before you started graduate school. The only comparativist that I have had the opportunity to speak to for longer than a few minutes is Dr. Down. I think it would be helpful to get another perspective on graduate school and the field. I read part of Eric’s dissertation on trace (which was cool), but I have never been formally introduced. I am really interested in comparative political behavior and institutions, and after Dr. Hwang’s class political economy (if you can’t tell I am a little all over the map at the moment..haha). My graduate school personal statement focused on my desire to study national compliance and differentiation with EU law particularly

To contribute to a society or group is something which makes for a functional group. In the case of receiving a college education, to contribute to building a student body that is academically curious, but also diverse and actively engaged in a range of productive, creative activities, is a tall order, though not much less can be expected because of the benefits of attending college. I am confident that if I were to attend this college, my academic interests, the activities I participate in, and the life experiences I have had thus far would greatly contribute to the atmosphere of this institution. Academia is a very broad topic and all different types of people and students are interested in different subtopics, all stemming
