I think the most effective way to help kids understand the various possibilities of sexuality is through drawings, cartoons, role-playing games, etc. Children have the tendency to learn better through imaginations (Taylor, 2013). They also have the tendency to learn better when they can visualize it. The concept of sexuality is hard to portray without giving children some form of illustration. I believe human sexuality is a very complex idea to be taught to young kids because there are so many different factors involved. If I were to help young kids to understand the possibilities of sexuality, I would start with telling them how human sexuality is essentially how one perceives and expresses themselves (Rathus, 2013). Then I would go into more details talking about sex, gender, and sexual relationship. …show more content…
In terms of what I can do to help – I would start targeting local schools that have minimal or non-existent sex education because everyone should have the chance to learn about the diversity of sexuality. Since I didn’t go to school in Hong Kong before University, I don’t have the connection that is needed for me to approach local schools and promote the diversity of sexuality or even volunteer to teach a lesson on the different possibilities of sexuality to little kids. However, I have some local friends that have graduated from some local schools that have very bad sex education and I think I would first recommend them to take this course then when they completed this course we can return to the schools that they have graduated from and volunteer to teach little kids more about the diversity of sexuality – especially I would definitely touch on about sex, gender, and sexual
Extensive research has attempted to identify principal factors that promote effective education and promotion when addressing poor sexual health. One critical feature of successful programs is the adoption of a multidimensional approach to sexuality, taking into consideration the influence of demographics and perceptions of sexual health between populations. Other critical factors allude to the creation of school education programs, constructive sexuality educators, effective sexual health promotion and gender inclusive environments.
When I signed for the human sexuality class, I was so excited to take the class and learn more about sex and gender in a psychological matter. What made me more curious to take this class two elements. Firstly, I have never taken a human sexuality class before neither in schools nor colleges. Secondly, we know that every culture has different beliefs about sex, and as I am an international student and have a different background about sex, I wanted to gain experience from other cultures that will make my thoughts to be more broadened and will extremely help me in my future career.
From birth, one's sexuality is shaped by society. Cultures institute behaviors that are to be seen as the societal norms, which work to constantly reinforce societal expectations of how genders should act in relation to one another. Although some may argue that one's sexuality is an innate characteristic resulting from genetic makeup, there is a large amount of evidence pointing to its social construction instead. Through the power differences between males and females, established gender roles, and drastic economic shifts, society establishes sexuality and reinforces the behaviors that are expected of its citizens.
Human sexuality can be fascinating, complex, contradictory, and sometimes frustrating. Sexuality is interwoven into every aspect of being human; therefore, having knowledge about sex is as essential as having education about human anatomy. However, it is highly recommended to pay close attention when sex education is delivered to youths. (Donatelle 171)
If for some reason the students are able to handle the lessons of sex, then that means they’re going to be motivated to want to have sex with each other--regardless their sexuality. Evidently this class is going to motivate them, the students, to have sex, and the students are not going to give a flip about the results. They’re going to eventually learn that sex can be a pleasurable action as explained in both stage three and five of Sigmund Freud’s psychosexual development theory. Stage three, which is the phallic stage, states that around the age of three to five years old, the child will seek for pleasure that is centered on masturbation and/or oral sex. Furthermore, stage five of the theory, which is the genital stage, states that around the age of 12 through adulthood centers on the seeking for sexual pleasuring through romantic
Answer: Self esteem plays a large role in my sexual choices. I think many people make the mistake of equating another person’s love for you to the love you feel towards yourself but they are two very different things. Early on, I found that I had low confidence and was participating in sex partly out of curiosity but also partly because I thought it would make me more attractive, or cooler or more dynamic. I also thought that when my partner loved what I did, that meant I was doing something right and now I have a good reason to love myself. Unfortunately I viewed it as a tool to make myself “better” however I do think that the
The scientific method is research of assumptions, scientifically to see if they are true or false. It is important in human sexuality research because first, people might be afraid to be honest about answers if they think that they're being judged. Sex is a very interesting topic, but people often think they're being judged and it is hard to open up. There are two scientific goals of sexology: understanding and predicting behavior. (pp.30). The scientific method is important research because it is free from bias. The scientific method is more based on facts, rather than opinions.
To begin, some parents may debate that their child isn’t old enough to receive such graphic information, the truth is while children become teenagers puberty sparks interest in sexual activity and with some children starting puberty as early as ten or eleven years old sex is a natural thing to think about at that age. Following, some may also say that having an extensive sexual education course can present unruly ideas to our youth. To argue, as the 21st century has changed what Americans consider right and wrong allowing more understanding and acceptance of difference. Understanding themselves at an early age will help them achieve comfortability in their adult lives. Teenagers need an explanation to why their bodies and minds are changing and with a comprehensive sexual education course they may seek out the answers they have been questioning themselves, as well as answering questions they haven’t thought to ask yet. Lastly, considering how the teenage body and mind work, why would it be beneficial to explain a wide range of sexual education? With proper education teens can prepare themselves for the future, whenever they choose to become sexually active they will know who they can talk to including school counselors, pediatricians and more importantly their parents. Juveniles will also have the understanding of birth control, what the most effective ways to protect yourself
Sexual education is an important topic which as to be addressed due to the growing debates as to weather it should be implemented within the school system. The Canadian Guidelines for Sexual Health Education states that sexual education curriculums addresses a range of topics including “puberty, effective contraceptive methods, prevention of STI/HIV, communication skills, sexual orientation, interpersonal relationships, and media literacy” (Public Health Agency of Canada). Children need to address such issues early in order to protect them from early initiation of sexual activity, sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy. The issue is then weather or not parents support such a program.
From the very beginning, children played erotic games in the hatchery and conditioning center; it is normal in this society for children to take part in such “games” and to have in the process (Huxley, 31-32). It is frowned upon not to openly enjoy such erotic behavior—even for adults. There are pornographic movies called “Feelies” that stimulate more than just the eyes, but the entire body; they are described as "practically nothing but pure sensation” (Huxley, 221). There are also ceremonies where groups partake in sexual conducts, known as soma orgies, just to be happy. Just introducing these ideas to students already clashes with the basic health education curriculum that teaches that sex is for marriage.
The 10 Percent Problems and The Social Construction of Sexuality were definitely my favorite two articles that I have read for this class. I have learned no matter how advanced our world is, there are still people that are afraid to come out and admit they are gay. Even in 2016, there are people that would be against LGBT communities. After the election, a large number of crimes have been committed towards the LGBT community. It will influence my thinking by being more sensitive towards LGBT people. In the past, some of the ideas I had about LGBT effected the way I communicated with them. After reading this article, it made me realize how rude or insensitive that was. This year I have personally met my first Transgender individual. It gave
In today’s society things are being expressed and experienced at younger ages, than ever before in our time. Children and teenagers are discovering their sexuality at very early ages. Sexuality is the discovering of who you are and what makes you different from everybody else.
The body-positive message of comprehensive sexual education can and should start early while other concepts and topics should be phased in when appropriate. Sexual education is also a component of a healthy society. Through my research, I learned that the United States lags behind other countries in sexual health especially among teenagers. Even sadder was the discovery of the lack of attention given to minorities. As previously mention, I was unaware of the LGBT denigration in some state laws. The minority disadvantagement doesn’t stop their. I learned through my research that comprehensive sexual education is important to have in schools because many (including minorities) may not have access to it elsewhere; thus the education must serve to aid and benefit all and must reach as many as possible.
What are the current sexual and reproductive health education needs of primary school students in Beijing?
Throughout the course, Religion and Sexuality, I have gained new insights on religion and its relationship to sexuality, further, I have learned skills on how to approach people about such topics (religion and sexuality) and how to critically evaluate these subjects efficiently. Lastly, this course has enabled me to discover new qualities about myself.
