As a general rule for policy, tax deductions make most sense for items that represent reductions in ability to pay tax, such as casualty losses. Credits are more appropriate for subsidies provided through the tax system. 7. When would a person use a third party designess? There are two major reasons for granting a third party authorization for the purpose of resolving your federal tax issues. The first reason for granting an authorization is for the purpose of allowing an individual to represent you in tax matters before the IRS. This authorization is a "Power of Attorney" and is submitted using Form 2848 (PDF). The second reason is to allow any individual, corporation, firm, organization or partnership you designate, your appointee, to inspect and/or receive your confidential tax information in any office of the IRS for the type of tax and years or periods you list on Form 8821, Tax Information Authorization (PDF). Visit W-2 Wage and Tax Form at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw2.pdf. 8. What is primary purpose of the W-2 Wage and Tax Forms? The IRS requires employers to report wage and salary information for employees on the W-2 form. The W-2 also reports the amount of federal, state and other taxes withheld from your paycheck. Components of the W-2 Form Chances are you've been issued a W-2 Form at some point in your life. W-2 Forms are divided into state and federal sections, since employees must file taxes on both levels. If I had a friend who did not want to move up the tax bracket and take the raise, I would insure him that they would still be making more money with the raise. To explain the marginal tax bracket to my friend, I would first show them the chart. Even though their pay would move them to a greater bracket, they only have to pay a partial percentage of the dollar amount they bring in for income. Everyone pays a percent of each income bracket range they are in this is different from someone paying the highest percentage on their total income. For example, if my friend was making 85000 and has now been offered a raise to 95000 dollars they would be switching tax brackets. They would go from paying 25 percent of 85000 to 28 percent of 95000. Where they might be confused is if they look at the tax bracket and see that their new raise places them in the income range of 89,351-186,350. The important thing for him to take from the marginal tax bracket is that they are only being taxed on the additional amount of money he is earning, not the full 28 percent of 95000. To sum up the example in words, a marginal tax rate is when a person is taxed on percent increments of their income based on the ascending tax bracket. The tax rates in the United States are designed to be marginal because “our tax code is written to be progressive” (Mitchel, 2016). If our tax system was not marginal, there would be people who earn more money, but make less than those in a lower tax bracket after taxes have
