Concrete: Concrete terms refer to objects or events that are identified by our senses such as “cake” or “fork”. Concrete terms are the exact opposite of abstract terms, or terms that are not available to our senses. Because concrete terms can be seen, touched, smelled, tasted, or heard, the meanings are concise and not open to human interpretation. You don’t want to hide your points, so it is better to use more concrete terms than abstract terms in your writing. This rhetorical device makes it much easier to visualize the story because concrete terms are things we possibly encounter in everyday life. Monosyllabic: Monosyllabic language is a language that mostly contains words with a singular syllable. This often makes sentences in the writing piece appear simpler. The use of monosyllabic language can be a common strategy when writing in casual or informal diction. Some examples of monosyllabic words are “glove” or “rose”. Polysyllabic: Polysyllabic language is a language that mostly contains words with multiple syllables. This often makes sentences in the writing piece appear much more complex. The use of polysyllabic language can be a common strategy when writing with formal or even casual diction. Some examples of polysyllabic words are “anesthesiologist” or “onomatopoeia”. Connotation: Connotation is the implied meaning of a word apart from its explicit definition. Words have a cultural and emotional meaning along with their literal meaning. Words can also have a

Mental lexicon holds information about words relationship, meaning, and part of the language. Words can be related by synonyms and antonyms. Words have meaning if when you perceive a word a mental picture comes to mind related to that word. The part of the language of any words deals with its conjugation; whether the word is a verb, noun or adjective.
Metaphor: A metaphor can enhance and paint a more interesting and a more (vivid?) picture of what your are trying to explain. It easily conveys a message. For example if you say “It was Scary” the reader will not know how scary but if you say “I was so scared I felt like a mouse before a great

However, connotation is the emotional meaning of the word, comparing “cheap” to “inexpensive” as an example. Originally, Barthes termed connotation as myth because he believed that connotation is a product of society. Connotation is not the true meaning of the sign but a meaning that society has decided to give that sign and is a shared meaning (Griffin, 2012). Barthes wrote that connotation makes what is cultural seem natural (Barthes, 1985/1988). Connotation is what makes habit become ritual. To better understand these two aspects of signs, we have to understand how the system of what makes up a sign affects its meaning.
At first glance, the question about what is the language might be strange, because we have been using language extemporarily, unconsciously for centuries ago. Nevertheless, the language is the essence difference between human beings and animals, due to what language offers to humans. It enables them to have a history and live the present as well as for planning for the future. furthermore, it is our major tool to communicate ,express our thoughts and feelings under different circumstances, and it enables us to exchange knowledge, beliefs, and opinions to accomplish a great civilization. However, ordinary language is the daily usage of language by people, whereas literary language is the language used by writers, poets, and literates. Everyone can understand the ordinary language easily, but it is quite difficult to realize the proper meanings of the literary language. In order to reach to literary meanings, you should take in your consideration the all structures of the literary language. Literary language is a deviant type of language, for how a writer uses various devices of diction in order to make the language vary from the usual use of language.
Key features of language include its words and their sub structures such as morphemes, graphemes and syllables at the writing level as well as reading or speaking, words, their meanings and contexts in which the words get spoken or read. Language has to be interpreted as a whole, and not just as the specific word. There must be an explicit pattern or structure. In order for language to be understood correctly, the meaning of words must be arranged in a given context. This is what constructs language; even though words are arbitrary themselves, in order to integrate as a language, they must be used in the appropriate context. This pre-established cultural context is what will enable effective communication. (Daniel Willingham, 2007, p. 1).
