Connecticut Valley School By Benjamin Plummer, Scott Donnellan, Ly Do FIN 320, 11/3/2014 THE CONNECTICUT VALLEY SCHOOL BUDGET BUDGET DECISIONS In the past year the Board of Trustees have allocated capital funds on the recommendation of Headmaster John Loring to the athletic programs of the school. The faculty and staff have expressed their concern about the spending decisions of the headmaster to support athletic programs over the needs of the students and faculty. This year the trustees have included the faculty in the decision process in order to objectively create a capital budget which will be in the long-run interest of the school. This year the Board of Trustees have been presented with eight different capital investment …show more content…

When you get to the issue of budgets there is really two parts to them. The general budget which is what the school district per say pays towards coaches salaries, transportation, and event workers. Coaches salaries are normally $120,000, transportation would be $50,000, and event workers can be around $5,000 - $10,000. Then the other part of the budget is the sports income, which is money from booster clubs, participation from other schools, and admissions, and it comes to roughly $120,000. Which goes out to uniforms, the athletic trainer, equipment and our participation at other school events. (Ross)
In There’s A Reason They Choose Schools, Timothy Wheeler argues that mass murders aim for locations with “gun-free zone” school campuses. He also states that the shooters are usually students who hold “school-related grudges.” He also believes that the shooters take in consideration that schools do not have a high security system. Wheeler believes that there should be responders stationed at every school. These responders may be trained security guards, teachers, or students. Wheeler is definitely accurate when he argues that schools should have armed first responders because the student’s safety is what’s important. He is also correct that mass shooters aim for schools because they are an easier target than most.

Within the poem “Schoolsville” by Billy Collins, the author describes his career as a teacher, highlighting the relationship with his students and how they have impacted him. Collins executes this through his creation of an imaginary town, intertwined with the reality of his profession and the real world. Through the frequent use of exaggerations, humorous imagery, and critical diction, Collins captures his weakening grasp on reality. The speaker captures himself in a dark moment where he realizes how detached he has become from his students and reveals his sense of hopelessness as a teacher.
Many students participate in extracurricular athletics, but sports are not worth their extreme cost. Amanda Ripley, author of a Scholastic Scope article, states, “Maintaining a grass field can cost more than $20,000 a year” (11). She also says that during out of town games, schools provide transportation for teams, cheerleaders, band, meals, and hotels (Ripley 11). These facts reveal that extracurricular sports waste an outrageous portion of a school’s already quite limited budget and it is absolutely critical to put that money towards updating the campus and creating a better learning environment. Ultimately, if institutions don’t stop squandering their money on after school athletics, the future of education will be a grim one.
These programs cost more money than that for academic programs, and profitability of these programs are very low. In comparison to the amount of money disbursed, profit and income rates are not sufficient. Therefore the argument shows that college athletic programs have become a luxury in colleges, and a distraction for academics.
Facts: Stephen R. Newton (Newton) was an employee of Henderson City as a police officer. Newton had been assigned to the DEA in October 1987 until he resigned in 1991. Newton claims he was not compensated for all the overtime hours he worked as a Task Force Officer. The city of Henderson entered an agreement with the DEA to remain Newton’s employer consequently rendering them responsible for “establishing the salary benefits including overtime of the Henderson Police Department officer assigned to the Task Force, and making all payments due.” Prior to 1990, Newton had not received authority from the City to work any overtime.
Pennsylvania State University then known as the Farmers High School of Pennsylvania was founded in February 22, 1855 . Centre County became the site of the new college when farmer James Irvin donated 200 acres of land and sold trustees 200 more. On May 1, 1862, the school changed its name to the Agricultural College Of Pennsylvania and on 1863 when the Morrill Land-Grant Act was passed Pennsylvania selected the school to be the states land grant college. After 1863 the school tried balancing agricultural studies with a more classic education causing enrollment up to 64 undergraduates in 1875.A year after, the Agricultural College of Pennsylvania changed its name back to Pennsylvania state university.

The director of Planned Parenthood League of Connecticut, Estelle Griswold, and Dr. C. Lee Buxton were accused and found guilty of providing illicit contraception under a Connecticut law. They were both fined $100 each for this crime. Griswold and Buxton appealed to the Supreme Court of Errors of Connecticut, stating that the law was unconstitutional because it violated the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. The Connecticut court endorsed the conviction, so they appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court revised the case in 1965.

Titled “The Academic Rights of Students,” this essay of mine voiced my support for publicly funding athletics equally as a high school would fund various other extracurricular activities. I reasoned my argument using an appeal to ethos. I revealed my position as captain of the varsity lacrosse team while serving as an active member of numerous academic clubs. Though not all will agree with my stand on this issue, I presented a compelling argument that voiced the concerns of a high school student. As a result, I won first place in the Junior Achievement Essay Contest.
Does the Constitution explicitly state a right to privacy? This particular question was brought to the attention of the Supreme Court in 1965 during the Griswold vs. Connecticut case. This case involved Doctor Griswold giving birth control pills to a married couple in order to prevent conception. In Connecticut at this time the use of contraceptives was illegal since one was not to avoid conception. However, law of contraceptives was not strongly enforced against individuals. As a result of Doctor Griswold giving the couple contraceptives, he was helping them break the law. This case was also seen as illegal because it was supposedly going against the right of privacy and was taken to court in order to address the use of contraceptives and if prescribing contraceptives to married couples was legal. However the right of privacy is something that is not clearly stated in the Constitution. When this case was then taken to the Supreme Court, there were many justices that interpreted this case and some were for and against the ruling. Three of the justices were Justice Douglas, Justice Harlan and Justice Black. The three of these Justices had different methods of reasoning about the Constitution and how the Constitution should therefore be interpreted. As a result not all of the reasoning’s included the theory of natural law, and not all of their theories are necessarily plausible. I myself feel that Justice Douglas’s way of understanding the constitution is the most plausible
Kids would absolutely love it if you would increase the school’s sport budget. If you did that there can be increasing opportunities for kids who are lucky enough to get scholarships at colleges. To support why kids would love to get a higher sports budget, they would love to have a better happiness level overall. Also I think kids would love to be more fit, in which would make this middle school have a better athletic record. This budget increase could lead some kids to have a higher chance of doing well in life by getting a better start in life and having a happier life.
