The topic I chose is the Venus of Willendorf. The Venus of Willendorf is one of the oldest and most complete surviving examples of Paleolithic art. The statue was found in 1908 by archeologist Josef Szombathy near the town of Willendorf, Austria. There have been a lot of ideas about the date of the Venus including the same period as the cave paintings at Lascaux in France, but it was later determined that statue is from about 25,000-22,000 BCE. It stands about 4 ½ inches tall, small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. The statue was carved from oolitic limestone and tinted with red ochre. This limestone is uncharacteristic of that region, leaving room for interpretation as to where the stone came from and how it got to Willendorf. Scholars
The first piece of art work that I saw was the work of Frederick William MacMonnies (1863-1937) I felt it captured my attention as I first walked into the room. The unique sculpture “DIANA” really impressed me by depicting a Roman Goddess poised with her bow raised high and ready for the hunt. It was also interesting because the women of that time period were not known as hunters, they were known for being mothers and wives. The piece of art work was medium in sitting on top of a pedestal as you walked into the main exhibit room. There was lots of background information on the poster written below this artwork. It told a story of how MacMonnies and his contemporaries got their inspiration in ancient Greek and Roman culture, and it also took some of the Italian Renaissance into account when making the piece.
The Venus of Willendorf is one of the oldest and most famous early images of a human. She represents what use to be the “ideal woman” with her curvy figure and the emphasis on fertility seen in the features of her sculpted body. This paper will analyze the Venus of Willendorf sculpture in terms of its formal analysis.
Venus of Urbino illustrates a young woman, Venus, lying nude on what appears to be a reclined couch or bed. However, the woman depicted means much more than merely a nude woman. There have been many interpretations of this beautiful woman over the years but many art historians agree that the Venus of Urbino has to do unambiguously with the male sexual desire for the female nude body.
Ever since the beginning of the Stone Age around 25,000 B.C. and throughout the late classical period in 400 B.C., we can infer and see that both men and women have been portrayed in many ways when viewing particular cultures around the time period. The representation of the female body can be seen through numerous pieces of Art. Ladies and Gentleman the figurine in front of you is called “The Venus of Willendorf”, and it is the oldest female figurine statuette. It most likely symbolizes female fertility. Now some of you may be wondering why this figurine is half naked. The reason for this again ties back to the cultures of Mesopotamia. Multiple Mespopotamian related cultures seem to have made this

This paper will discuss relative points and insights relating to sculpture of the Paleolithic era, specifically the Venus of Willendorf, through the essays of Christopher Witcombe.
In many ways Venus is found to be similar to Earth. However their similarities do not extend further than their physical properties, for instance, their atmospheres differ greatly from each other. Venus is said to have atmospheric pressure of 92.1 barometers (Adams, D. Et al., 1994 p.126) which it is evidently 92 times greater than Earth’s that is 1.01 barometers (Adams, D. Et al., 1994 p.126) at sea-level. In spite of this comparison to Earth’s atmospheric pressure, Venus owns an out of the ordinary atmospheric composition.

Twenty eight years after Giorgione’s death, as a close friend to him, Titian created another version of the reclining female nude, which is also one of the most famous female nude in art history - the Venus of Urbino in 1538. It was an oil painting on canvas, and now located at Uffizi gallery in Florence.
Taking place during the month of July, all female members of all households would plant fast-growing plants on the top of the roofs of their houses, calling the garden the “Garden of Adonis”, as they were honoring Adonis. Theses plants would be nurtured for a consecutive eight days, and then completely ignored, left to die in the sun. Afterward, in which case all the plants died, the women grieved for the loss. Following, a play most likely based on Greek tradition was held, depicting Venus and Adonis’ wedding. To conclude the festival, Adonis effigies were made and placed in coffins.
Florence, Italy. He left Florence in 1480 to help decorate the Sistine Chapel in Rome with some of his art which only the most famous painters of that time were invited to do. In 1482, Botticelli returned to Florence and shortly
During the Upper Paleolithic era artists created a wide range of small sculptures. These sculptures were made from various materials, including ivory, bone, clay, and even stone. They represented humans, as well as animals; they even combined them at times. Most of the sculptures from this time show a high level of skill. From this time, there were two very influential sculptures, The Venus of Willendorf and the Venus of Laussel. This paper will discuss both sculptures, in detail, as well as, compare and contrast them.
For the everyday piece of art journal I wrote about the albatross that is in front of Alden library. Students walk by sculpture once maybe twice a day and do not realize the meaning of its beauty. Now when I am walking past Alden with a friend I mention the artwork and make it known that it resembles the seven floors of Alden
For my vacation, my family has chosen to go to Venus. This our first year traveling outside of earth so we chose a planet close. Venus is covered with a thick layer of sulfuric acid which will be a blast to land into but on the inside Venus is solid. Venus shines super bright and has orangish yellow tint. The overall look of Venus is dreary and the gas covers the area with a goldish hue and everything looks like gunmetal. Venus is VERY hot, it temperature reaches to about 870 degrees Fahrenheit! On top of the scorching heat the Atmospheric pressure is bone crushing and highly dense.Venus is about 0.72 light years away from the Sun and blank light years from Earth. Venus is very much like earth and not very much like earth. Venus is about the same size as earth
In the poem Venus’s Flytrap the speaker is a very knowledgeable child. The child is a sensitive boy. He’s sensitive because he notices more than an average 5-year-old boy does. He sees “the yellow flowers/quivering in sluggish heat.” and “the tall flowers in [his] dreams.” This child was born to a couple that does not want him or, at least, he thinks he has overheard his mother say “[he] is a mistake/that [he] made her a bad girl.” By the details that the author Yuser gives in the poem the boy is growing up in the country where the flowers grow wild and “go on forever./Almost to Detroit.” This boy knows more than he should including sex. He describes the flowers in his dream to have “mouths like where/babies come from.” The boy also hears “secrets”
