We have seen his works and have marveled at their beauty but the man behind the paintings was just as complex as the brush strokes he used. Vincent Van Gogh lived a life of tragedy, beauty and loneliness. Vincent Van Gogh was a man who craved love and after a few complex relationships he caved and cut his ear off and gave to a brothel prostitute named Rachel, for safe keeping. Van Gogh was made famous well after his death for such works as “Starry Night”, which he painted while being admitted into a mental asylum. Before his death Van Gogh attempted to take his own life, failing he spent his last days with his brother. After his death, his sister-in-law discovered over two thousand works which now can be seen all over the world. Many of his
The life span of 37 years saw Vincent Willem van Gogh (Vincent) in creating beautiful works he dearly loved. Painting was an avenue, which allowed him to express his inner thoughts or vent his struggles. My decision to research on Vincent’s painting, Starry Night (1889) came with the inspiration from Don Mclean’s Song, Starry Starry Night where his lyrics spoke about Vincent’s life that further intrigued me in writing this paper.
To begin with, everyone knows Vincent Van Gogh. He is one the most famous artists in the world. In Van Gogh's “Starry Night” it has been said that the painting depicts his view from an asylum. After receiving a mental
In 1853 Vincent Van Gogh was born into a loving family. He got everything he wanted from his parents, since he was an only child. His dad worked for an oil company. He was a manager and wasn’t around very much. His mom on the other hand didn’t work and was with Vincent all the time. By the time he was 10 years old, his dad moved his family to France so they could have a better life.
How would it feel to live your life as a failure, but after your death be praised by all? The real Vincent Van Gogh was an artist who had nothing and gave up on life. Many people viewed him as a tenacious and mysterious artist. He died a tragic death feeling like an artistic failure due to a couple of reasons. The first reason was because there were no cures for the mental problems, such as depression, insanity, and epilepsy, that ran in the family. Because of his depression, he felt like an artistic failure, not knowing the fame he would later gain. Van Gogh died as an unknown artist with little money and no cure for an issue that was common throughout his family.
Around 1890, an artist by the name of Vincent Van Gogh who present day is one of the most renowned artists created magnificent, yet mysterious drawings which he started with just a pencil. From his pencil drawings with lines and dashes to the beautiful variations with using paint, Vincent was a genius, but was never congratulated on his work until later. Even as he was pronounced crazy, he could still create beautiful works of art which shows how even a flower can bloom in a dark forest. As his life was slowly being painted on canvas from the years of solitude and psychiatric problems he finally killed himself which a couple years later brought up his artwork through his own suicide.
Vincent Van Gogh Madison Dunham You’re going insane. Eating paint as if it is food because you spent your weekly earnings on new art supplies without the thought of food. It drives you crazy, but you keep on painting. Almost 900 paintings before you commit suicide and only manage to sell 1.
Vincent Willem Van Gogh was a Dutchman born on March 30, 1853 in Groot-Zundert, Netherlands. The Starry Night is one of Van Gogh’s famous paintings in the world. It was believed that his painting was the view from his bedroom window. After a petition was signed saying Vincent Van Gogh was dangerous, they moved him to an asylum. He lived in a hospital where he suffered occasional relapse into delusions. While he was there, he was able to read, paint and withdraw from his room. As he was going through depression, Van Gogh then began to have hallucinations and even have thoughts of suicide. His art helped him stay emotionally balanced. He then started to paint The Starry Night, and used dark colors. For example, in the painting he clearly paints all the buildings dark and black and paints the stars and the moon brighter to make it stand out more. In his painting, he included a cypress tree which is usually found in cemeteries and represent mourning. There were rumors about his death, saying he had died because his illness
Vincent Van Gogh was considered the greatest Dutch painter after Rembrandt, although he was financially poor and was unknown throughout his life.
Coming into this Art Appreciation class, I knew very little about who Vincent Van Gogh was as an artist, and as a person. I feel I’ve learned a great deal about him after just a few short classes, especially after listening to the heartfelt song written to him by Don Mclean, titled Vincent. I now realize that the struggles Vincent experienced from his mental disorders were communicated through his many paintings, and there’s much more to the artwork than the painting itself, of which I already find very impressive. I think Don Mclean does a phenomenal job at capturing these feelings in his song. Even though I’m already a fan of his music, Vincent really moved me on more of an emotional level.
Vincent van Gogh was born with his name and birthdate already etched onto a tombstone.
Vincent Van Gogh is one of the world's best known post impressionist artists. He did not have money to pay for models so he painted his own portrait in hopes of developing his skills as an artist.
Vincent Van Gogh was formed by his social, cultural and historical context. This is expressed clearly in the underlying stories of both paintings, Starry Night, 1889 and Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear, 1889. Both of these paintings portray a narrative relating to Van Gogh significantly as he emotionally connects to the subject in each painting. Van Gogh’s aim of these subjective works was to express meaning through colour and express the painting to a more personal emotion for the viewer. Van Gogh belonged to a small style of Post Impressionism which was a reaction against Impressionism and their formality.
“Every production of an artist should be the expression of an adventure of his soul,” said William Maugham, a British playwright from the 19th century. Vincent Van Gogh, an artist who is considered by many one of the most inspirational artists in history, was no stranger to depicting his struggles in life or feelings in his work. Van Gogh’s piece Starry Night, designed in the year 1889, shows this to be true in that it was the result of his experiences in an asylum that encouraged this piece. Despite this work has being so well known, many critics and observers of the piece have differing views on what he was trying to communicate through it. Two prime examples of this can be seen by the views expressed in the poems entitled, “Vincent” and “The Starry Night”, written by Don McClean and Anne Sexton, respectively. While the poem “Vincent”, has a depressing tone to it, “The Starry Night”, by Anne Sexton, depicts Starry Night as having a more lively mood, which more accurately represents that of the painting, by Vincent Van Gogh.
Vincent Van Gogh is one of the most famous artists of all time. He is known for his paintings and is hailed as the quintessential expressionist painter in history. Yet, Van Gogh lived one of the most troubling lives one could ever imagine. Almost every painting can be viewed as a look into his troubled soul. Van Gogh’s Paintings today can be sold for millions of dollars, but during his life time he sold a single painting for a measly 40 francs. Van Gogh’s legacy has left behind stories of greatness and sadness having to do with both his personal life and his career as an artist.
Vincent Van Gogh had a rather depressing life. After being born into an upper-middle class family he quickly became depressed in life. He tried different things like working as an art dealer, becoming a Protestant missionary, and so on. None of these stuck for him as his mental health continued to decline. He was already a quiet, keep to himself kind of person, but over time he became more isolated. He got help from his younger brother Theo in the form of money and moved back home with his parents. This is when he began painting and eventually moved to Paris. Once moving there his paintings became more colorful and his painting style began to develop. He also began suffering from delusions and psychotic episodes and began neglecting his health by eating less and drinking alcohol more frequently and in
