Leadership and Vision In this constantly changing nursing world, a leadership vision is important when leading and inspiring the team. The patient must first feel that they can trust the physicians and nurses to provide them with optimum care, and act in their best interest; so, they can reach a better out come when providing patient-centered care. The overall opinion of the article is that it was well written. The last article title was Patient- Centered care is associated with decrease health care utilization, the purpose of the article was apparent and it provided detail information. Information that was overemphasized was the cost of patients directing their care. The author was not objective in the discussion topics only the specific was discussed. The author cited pertinent literature. This article supports my vision because according to the Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine (JABFM) article stated that “Patient- centered care was associated with decrease health care services and lower annual charges” (2010). This article provided too much information it could have been scaled back a little.
Conclusion
Having a leadership vision is important when you want to provide quality nursing to all. The journals that was review they all had informative information and supported my vision by allowing the patient to direct their care so that they can have a better outcome. In turn this will decrease hospital stay, let the patient feel that they are in charge of their care. The patient s will also feel as though they are a part of

Kristen Swanson’s relationship-based caring theory encompasses maintaining belief, knowing, being with, doing for, and enabling. Nursing is a profession with vast opportunities for growth and development. Each nurse has his or her individual passions; mine reside within obstetrics, women’s health, and nursing leadership. Nurse leaders play an integral role in the success of healthcare organizations. Nurse leaders shape the roles of nurses within their organizations. Nurse leaders seek methods to improve patient care. They also use innovation to gain efficiencies in care delivery and decrease healthcare cost. Many nurse leaders have an ultimate goal to aspire to be a chief nursing officer in a healthcare
In today’s healthcare system, effective leadership is essential to improving and reaching organizational outcomes. A leader is someone with the ability to influence others but, an effective leader uses positive strategies to inspire employees to work towards the same goal. Leadership in nursing requires a constant effort to motivate others to become part of the organizational transformation. This can be achieved using a transformational leadership style with a focus on communication, motivation, and empowerment.
While patient care is at the center of what nurse leaders do as well, the help and support they give their fellow nurses is very important.
In retrospect, what I learned in collaborative healthcare will be a solid foundation on which I will build my nursing leadership. To render care to the sick irrespective of their values, preferences, age, socioeconomic status, culture respect and dignity, demonstrate that the nurse leader is exhibiting compassion, ethics and knowledge. These aquacades must be continuously incorporated and utilized with professional clinical judgement and evidenced-based knowledge to yield the best patient outcomes (Finkelman, 2012).

There are many way in which nurses could contribute leadership to improve the health care system to provide advance patient care. Leadership has been defined in a number of ways, but the concept is still indefinable (Barr and Dowding 2016). Buchanan and Huczynski (2010, p. 596) define leadership as “a process of influencing the activities of an organised group in its efforts towards goal-setting and goal achievement”. In clinical practice, leadership translates to an ability to direct other to achieve evidence-based practice that supports enhanced patient outcomes (Kelly-Hiedenthal 2004). Like any other industries and organisations, an effective leadership skill is vital in the healthcare sector to improve the standards of the care and to achieve organisational goals (Bach and Ellis 2015). Nursing leadership plays an important role in the ability to improve the quality of care that is available to the patient, but in order to be able to reach this capacity of “change and innovation [it] requires a clinical leader mind-set that includes a strong personal awareness of one’s strengths and vulnerability, openness to other ideas, courage to challenge the status quo, and a highly developed comfort with rational risk taking” (Porter-O’Grady, 2013, p.71). The application of these leadership characteristics empowers the nurse to identify gaps in patient care, integrate evidence based research, and find alternate solutions to the problems identified in patient care (Committee, O. T. R. W. J., 2010).
The healthcare industry has intensely advanced throughout the world, in turn changing the principles that incorporate the practice and culture of nursing practice. Altering the model of care to a patient-centered mode signifies an organizational culture shift and requires the participation of executives at the senior level (Cliff, 2012). To practice this care to provide the best care possible, it goes beyond the nurse to all healthcare professionals and senior leadership. The days of patients and nurses following a physician’s order without favor to care has now loaned themselves to more of an interdisciplinary approach to practice. Though, it is encouraged that the patient makes decisions for themselves, after receiving the proper education and information on their condition. Part of the patient-centered care is to be the patients’ advocate, by letting them know you are there for them when they are unable to speak and advocate for themselves and what is in their best interest. That goes in hand with educating them on “self-management of care, health literacy, patient, and family education through nurse-patient communication and interaction (Finkelman & Kenner, 2016, p. 271).”
The third barrier discussed in the IOM’s Future of Nursing report was that nurses need to be full partners, with all other health care professionals, in order to redesign health care in the United States (IOM, 2010). To do this nursing education must add leadership aspects to the education programs. Those involved in the health care system—nurses, physicians, patients, and others—play increasingly interdependent roles. Leaders who merely give directions and expect them to be followed will not succeed in this environment.
