Not all leaders are ethical, but those who are, usually have a good intentions in life. When it comes to creating a business, especially something such as a nonprofit, it can be a difficult upbringing. Subsequently, leaders who are trying to create the country try to exploit shortcuts to establish their company quicker. A strong leader within an organisation is one who more often than not makes the correct ethical decision, and are able to handle stressful situations in a proper manner. Those who are able to do so, often have the capability of becoming a strong representative for any organisation they are apart of. As a result, this is why one is able to see people who fit these characteristics be apart of the head of a company. Popular to contrary belief, leaders are both born and made. Most people are under the notion that a person is either born with leader tendencies. It is incredibly important within the nonprofit sector because of the amount money given to the nonprofits. Each and every year, nonprofits across the globe receive millions in donations and funding in order to execute their tasks. The reason why people need to trust nonprofits with the money they are given is because the lust to use the the money for personal benefit is compelling. The leaders who run the organisation can be corrupt, so establishing rapport and a relationship with them allows for the trust factor to be there. Once it is there, the public will feel as if that nonprofit is less likely to use the money they receive for personal gain. The public view’s the nonprofit sector as one that wants to help others around them. Over the course of history, the other two sectors have been plagued with corruption, which is another reason as to why trust within the nonprofit sector is extremely important. The term ’Volunteers’ is a defining aspect of the Nonprofit and voluntary sector. Volunteers are a necessity for the sectors in some way or the other. Volunteers are a necessity for these sectors in some way or the other. According to the 2003 National survey of Non-profit and Voluntary Organizations, almost all of Canada’s estimated 161,000 nonprofit and voluntary organizations involve volunteers in some way. It has been reported that that collectively there are around 19 million volunteers and out of these one million of them serve on boards of directors. They are engaged in program delivery and fundraising. Many voluntary organizations face an ongoing need to recruit new volunteers. Many have also had to become more sophisticated in their recruitment strategies in order to attract volunteers who are reflective of the population. However, recruitment is only half the battle. The knowledge of experienced volunteers is an important asset for an organization. Retaining experienced volunteers is, therefore, a critical issue for voluntary organizations.
For this reason, nonprofits were chosen as the mode of production and management of new affordable units because they had a wholesome image with the American public (Bratt, 1998). This image, coupled with a track record for having the health, welfare, and safety of the public in mind made nonprofits very attractive to legislators and popular with the public.

What I learned from this experience with helping non- profits is that there are a lot of things that they do in the background that I feel most people aren’t aware of. Most of the places we volunteered I have never heard of much or less knew they existed, which surprised me the most. It showed me that there is a lot that goes into making the nonprofits run smoothly, and more importantly people need to speak up about them so others can come help for a greater cause. In chapter 5, LeRoux covers how community service and voluntary action fuel the mission of many organizations. Volunteers are an important aspect of non profit organizations especially. It was very interesting to me to read about the research that has been done about volunteering and how to keep and attract volunteers. Better understanding the motivations behind volunteers is an important part of the non profit sector. Many organizations are working hard to figure out ways to make the volunteer experience personalized to each individual and making it a good and inspiring experience for both sides. Making the experience important to the volunteer and the cause or organization keeps volunteers volunteering and keeps the organizations moving. The reading about college volunteering mentions the importance of hands on experience for students and how it can be a great service learning opportunity and way for students to express the causes that they are passionate about.
You have brought many important points to this week’s discussion, and I agree with majority of them; in particular your argument regarding communication. I render voluntary services in a non-profit organization for many years; I have witnessed how changes are implemented right away. Although that these changes have been analyzed by the leaders and most experienced individuals in the organization, volunteers often are not acquainted of these changes until leaders announce the changes. Despite changes usually lead to the organization improvement, ineffective communication channels leaves a bad taste among the workforce. Almost all changes in the workplace cause uncertainty since most employees may question their ability to adjust to them (self-efficacy).
