I burst through the surface of the freezing water and unlike the last time, I don’t gasp desperately for air with my arms wildly trying to keep me above the drowning threat. I’m calm and I easily swim with a coughing Skye in my arms. That wasn’t as horrible as I remember it. The little girl doesn’t seem to agree with my opinion as she coarsely coughs and hakes up water from her lungs. She shivers violently in my arms and her eyes are widen with fear. I don’t blame her. She’s just a little girl. She could have easily died. I spot Walker on the shore, breathing hard, and I quickly swim past Felix and Thorn who are struggling. My feet brush against the rocky bottom and I begin walking through the water with heavy feet and Walker meets me half way in the water. The old man takes Skye with open arms and soothing words. He whispers to her that everything is going to be okay and she’s safe. And she is. She’s out of the city. We’re all out of the city. My attention …show more content…

“A part of me didn’t actually believe you about this one,” he confesses. I don’t argue. “I wish I didn’t believe it too, but here it is. We barely get away from one danger and other just jumps in our path.” I pause, taking a step forward towards the black box. I glance over my shoulder at Walker who’s still holding a very shivering Skye. “Walker, I think it’s best if you take her outside as soon as possible. She looks really cold. Follow the tunnel. It will lead you outside.” I gesture to the tunnel that I had once traveled down when I was beaten and broken. Walker grumbles in agreement and begins walking in the direction I pointed, still carrying Skye. He stumbles on his feet and Flich suddenly comes up behind him and takes Skye out of his arms, realizing how exhausted the old dog was. Felix and Thorn follow closely behind, their eyes constantly glancing back at the bomb with shaking
