Walter Elias “Walt” Disney was born the 5th of December 1901 in Hermosa, Illinois. His parents were Elias Disney, an Irish-Canadian and Flora Call, a German-American. Elias worked as a building contractor and Flora as a teacher. His father was a very strict and religious man who was known to often physically abuse his children. He was a building contractor when Walter was born, but soon after took over a farm in Marceline Missouri. Disney was one of five children born to the couple, four boys and a girl. He was the creator of one of the best known motion picture production companies in the world, Walt Disney Productions, which he co-founded with his brother Roy. Walt Disney was a very innovative animator, creating the well known cartoon character Mickey Mouse. He also earned himself 22 Academy Awards during his lifetime and was the founder of Disneyland and walt Disney World. Disney spent most of his life in Marceline, Missouri, where he showed an early interest in drawing and art. He started painting and selling his pictures to neighbors and family friends. He met Ubbe Iwerks, and he and Disney soon made their own commercial company called, “Iwerks-Disney Commercial Artists.”

His father would physically beat him and his siblings if any sort of toys, drawings, or any type of entertainment was found around the house. His wife, Flora, feared him too. When Walt was born his father was a construction worker and his mother a stay at home mom to five Disney children. His father later then took up a farm in Marceline, Missouri where they then moved to. Walter always loved all the animals on the farm and felt like they were his friends.
