Walter Elias “Walt” Disney was born the 5th of December 1901 in Hermosa, Illinois. His parents were Elias Disney, an Irish-Canadian and Flora Call, a German-American. Elias worked as a building contractor and Flora as a teacher. His father was a very strict and religious man who was known to often physically abuse his children. He was a building contractor when Walter was born, but soon after took over a farm in Marceline Missouri. Disney was one of five children born to the couple, four boys and a girl. He was the creator of one of the best known motion picture production companies in the world, Walt Disney Productions, which he co-founded with his brother Roy. Walt Disney was a very innovative animator, creating the well known cartoon character Mickey Mouse. He also earned himself 22 Academy Awards during his lifetime and was the founder of Disneyland and walt Disney World. Disney spent most of his life in Marceline, Missouri, where he showed an early interest in drawing and art. He started painting and selling his pictures to neighbors and family friends. Instead of doing his schoolwork he would spend his time doodling pictures of animals and nature. In 1911, when he was ten his family moved to Kansas City, where he developed a love of trains. He later got a summer job working at the train station where his uncle, Mike Martin, was an engineer, selling snacks and newspapers to travelers.
