1) Water is a very important component of life, our bodies are mostly comprised of water and water covers over 70 percent of the earth’s surface. Water is important for the sustainment of life, every organisms depends on some type of water source. Plants, animals, and insects can not survive absent of water wether it is a couple of days or a couple of months. Water is a special element of life because of its chemical bonds, the chemical formula for water is H2O, which means that water contains two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. These atoms are held together by hydrogen bonds, the hydrogen bonds. The strong cohesive bond of the atoms in water are important, this makes water molecules much stronger than many other liquids. It has been mandated that water be boiled for at least an hour before using it as potable water. Another type of water containment that is monitored by the Environmental Division of Ft. Stewart are pesticides and fertilizers. Pesticides are commonly used in and around house, the problem is that pesticides contain chlordane lindane, and DDT. Ingestion of pesticides is especially dangerous because the body can not detoxify many of the chemicals. Essentially the hazardous chemical will accumulate in the body causing a variety of acute illnesses, because pesticides chemicals can accumulate in the body they are considered the most hazardous class of chemicals ("Common Chemical Contaminants of Municipal Water.”, 2015). Access to clean drinking water I believe is a basic human right. If we intentionally removed water from a group of animals and only gave out a rationed portion, that could be considered animal abuse or neglect. It is not acceptable to allow people to use contaminated water, no matter where in the world clean water is necessary. On the other hand, I have been to impoverished countries and have seen first hand some of those people who do not have potable water, and many times it has to due with were the decide to live.
