Verbatim, “We are Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). We help people worldwide where the need is greatest, delivering emergency medical aid to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from health care.” This goal is an astonishing one and with the history and background of this organization, they are doing a phenomenal job at accomplishing it. The creators of this website have used logos, ethos, and pathos to appeal to the viewer in a way to entice them to want to learn more about the organization, or better yet want to help in any way that they can. When first opening the website, I noticed a chart of how the funding for the organization is utilized. A whopping 89% of the donations are used for program …show more content…

Their goal is to provide assistance where the need is greatest and deliver emergency medical aid to people who have been affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or have been excluded from health care. With all the factual evidence and credibility derived from this website not only have I been drawn to help with monetary donations but to actually get active in the
Imagine being a soldier during the revolutionary war. There is no one to help you, and there is no doctors to save your life. Since the American Red Cross was founded, the organization has helped millions of people ranging from war to natural disasters.. The American Red Cross provides a range of services in the United States by giving emergency assistance, blood, disaster relief, and education. Also, the Red Cross feeds the volunteers, helps families contact each other, provides blood to disaster victims, and helps those affected by disaster to access other available resources. Their mission is empowering ordinary people to perform extraordinary
Every webpage is informative, whether its statistics, their presence in the news, or the several ways on how you can be involved. But it does not really stand out or differ from other charitable organizations. The website also doesn’t provide statements from families whom they’ve helped. Donors want to see that they’ve made a difference in someone’s life. A “thank you” video clip or photo of an assisted family or school group would probably have satisfied this issue and made this organization more desirable to participate in. It provides enough evidence for credibility from their existence in the news and links to their financial statements. It seems like a legit charitable organization with a good purpose but they also provide similar ethos as displayed in other websites, which in effect doesn’t necessarily derive an appeal to join this particular organization.
The American Red Cross organizations main focus is recruiting blood donors and volunteers; this is very clear from the first click on their website-a pop up window asking for the reader’s zip code in order to find a donation site near them. The tabs up at the top labeled with large print are inferred to be their most valued ideas. Below each of those tabs is a list of resources related to those individual tabs that help better define their purpose. The American Red Cross website uses the all three of the main types of rhetoric-pathos, ethos, and logos-in a way that benefits their organization and successfully grasps their audience.
To improve the well-being of individuals through health education, counseling and detection screening programs. Over the next few weeks, our mission will consist of finding new solutions to better educate individuals in our society on the importance of health education, by improving care through technology, which ultimately better our society. Our organization will focus on fundraising, however, we focus on fundraising will be from a health perspective, to make sure we focus on individual health at all times. I will be responsible for the implantation of Better Health Care
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is asking for help from parents to support the hospital’s funding. This hospital was established in February 4, 1962 and their purpose “is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment” (StJude.org). The survival rate has arised and children are able to stay at no cost due to donation. They have raised survival of childhood of cancer from 20% to 80%. The St. Jude Children’s Research hospital advertisement is highly effective because it uses three different rhetorics. Firstly, it uses ethos to appeal to the credibility of the hospital by using doctors in the advertisement. Secondly, it uses familiar logos as a means of instilling confidence through brand recognition, and thirdly, it uses pathos to stimulate an emotional reaction by showing sick children lying on the bed.
Disparities in healthcare are a real and urgent problem in our nation. There is indisputable data supporting the fact that disparities exist not only across different racial groups, but also across the cultural and economic stratification of our society. Moreover, there is even data showing disparities among each of these respective groups along gender lines. So what can be done about these disparities to assure that all patients receive equal and adequate care? Well, there are certainly many political and governmental changes or modifications that would go a long way towards narrowing the gaps in healthcare, but such changes are beyond the scope of this paper. Instead, I will focus on the steps that I,
Our commitment is to educate, enhance, and better the lives of our clients and families.
Jude Children's Research Hospital uses to achieve its mission to “advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment” (St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, n.d.). Social Medias such as Google Plus allow St. Jude to advance in its mission by allowing it to share the miracles which have taken place so it will have more donors to further the work being done. One example includes where a post describes a boy named Max who “suddenly couldn’t walk,” but “[thanks] to intensive treatment at St. Jude, he’s now back on his feet and, best of all, cancer-free” (St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 2018). In another post, the organization states that “families will never receive a bill from St. Jude” and that “approximately seventy-five percent of the budgeted costs of St. Jude are covered by public contributions” (St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 2017). These posts allow the organization to reach more possible contributors by expressing the importance of donating to the
For people living in a world filled with violence, it is essential to act as kind and compassionate individuals in order to develop more peaceful communities. According to Orbinski, “[they] are not sure that words can always save lives, but [they] know that silence can certainly kill” (Médecins Sans Frontières - Nobel Lecture). They use language to define a problem and come up with a call of duty. Even though no humanitarian can make peace, the more people that respond to a certain call of duty, the closer they get to a more peaceful community. As a civil society movement, they demand change, not charity. Campaigning for a change in the cost of medicine needed to treat some of their patients is seen as one way that Doctors Without Borders demand change. Members of Doctors Without Borders remain outspoken about the injustice towards humanity by the means of media or speeches, such as the one given by Orbinski 16 years
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” When Gandhi spoke those wise words, he revealed the secret to obtaining world peace. Dedicating your time to helping others can help make the world a better place. Doctors without Borders is a non-government organization, also known as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). This organization lives by the words of Mahatma Gandhi as they dedicate their time to obtaining world peace and positive social change by helping others across the world, with the medical attention that they need. Doctors without Borders started in France in 1971, and has now become international as they deliver emergency medical aid to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disaster or exclusion from health care. They have a
The American Red Cross is a nonprofit organization that prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies through six key areas; disaster relief, lifesaving blood, training and certification, supporting America’s military families, and international services. The American Red Cross has both a mission statement, which defines their objectives and approach, and also a vision statement, which defines their vision and future goals. The mission statement of the American Red Cross reads “The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. The American Red Cross’ vision statement reads “The American Red Cross, through its
Not only do they raise awareness for a global response, but their involvement in the medical field has helped civilians find medical care, and save many lives in areas where there is no access to hospital whatsoever. A CNN article, showed how dedicated they were to people in medical attention: “days of heavy airstrikes have left Syria's rebel-held eastern Aleppo without a single hospital operating at full capacity” (Smith-Spark, Kourdi & Khadder, 2016, para. 1). Despite, any infrastructure left standing during the war, they still stayed to avoid many more deaths by trying to help the
Imagine an entire community of individuals, from doctors to massage therapists, that does not answer to any political entity or religion, yet still manages to collectively provide free healthcare services to millions of individuals in need every year. Medecins Sans Frontiers, or popularly known in the US as Doctors Without Borders, is an international NGO that does just that. The organization began in 1971 when a group of French doctors and journalists recognized the dire need for assistance in healthcare during times of war, famine, and flood in Nigeria and Pakistan. Since then, it has expanded and provides aid to over 60 countries in underserved regions across Central America, South America, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia as
