Human rights violations occur all around the world on a daily basis. Despite the Universal declaration of human rights (UDHR) to safeguard the rights of all human beings, some states are still dragging their feet to implement the basic rights their citizens are entitled to. So, to advocate for people whose rights have been denied, many Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) have taken upon themselves to work and promote social and political change. These NGOs play an important part in improving communities, and advocating for citizen participation. In that sense, Doctors without borders, mostly known as Medecins sans Fontieres (MSF), has gained a lot of praise for its work for helping people in need, and acting as an instrument of reducing poverty worldwide.
Doctors Without Borders is a medical humanitarian organization founded in 1971 by a group of French doctors and journalists who wanted to expand access to health care all around the world. Their sole aim was to deliver medical help regardless of race, religion or political affiliations.
Doctors Without Borders has been active in many African countries for years. In some cases, it has even been the only provider of health care in some areas of the continent. When the Ebola virus began to spread in some parts of Africa,

Not only do they raise awareness for a global response, but their involvement in the medical field has helped civilians find medical care, and save many lives in areas where there is no access to hospital whatsoever. A CNN article, showed how dedicated they were to people in medical attention: “days of heavy airstrikes have left Syria's rebel-held eastern Aleppo without a single hospital operating at full capacity” (Smith-Spark, Kourdi & Khadder, 2016, para. 1). Despite, any infrastructure left standing during the war, they still stayed to avoid many more deaths by trying to help the

Ebola is a virus that is transmitted to other individuals through direct contact with blood and body fluids of those infected (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2015). In the most recent outbreak in 2014, the video Ebola Outbreak (2014) illustrated that the virus quickly became a worldwide epidemic. As the virus became so widespread throughout Africa, Ebola-infected so many people in such a short time frame. While the organization, Doctors without Borders was intimately involved early on, they quickly learned that the manpower they had to offer was not nearly enough. The group identified that they had no way of performing contact tracing, which is a way of following patients that were contaminated and quickly led to additional cases of infection in astronomical numbers. According to the follow-up video, Outbreak (2014) the organization Doctors without Borders communicated to the World Health Organization (WHO) made a valiant

Growing up in Iraq, I endured my homeland’s journey through a difficult period in its history. No one was unaffected: civilians’ lives were disrupted by years of wars and detrimental economic sanctions, but amid the destruction, I saw the good in my community. I witnessed a massive humanitarian effort led by healthcare professionals, as physicians worked to meet the medical needs in my town. My dreams were shaped by this exposure, and ever since, I’ve hoped to join these doctors in their efforts.
About half of immigration into the United States is illegal, thus approximately half of the impact of immigration on our health care system is due to illegal immigration. The influx of illegal aliens has serious hidden medical consequences. We judge reality primarily by what we have seen. But what we do not see can be more dangerous, more expensive, and more deadly than what is seen. What is unseen is their free medical care that has degraded and closed some of America’s finest emergency medical facilities, and caused hospital bankruptcies.
Their purpose of the Red cross is to help people from all around the world who are in need. It does not matter what country they are from or what the situation is.

In 2011, I traveled to my hometown in Haiti to reconnect with friends and family. It was great to be back home and I got to enjoyed the food, music and spend quality time with family. What stood out the most during this trip was I witnessed nurses and doctors giving out medicine, vaccines and providing medical advice to the community. Seeing this prompted me to approach the doctors, who informed me of Doctors without Borders, an organization I would like to volunteer with once I become a physician. I agree with their mission and want to be part of a world-wide humanitarian organization.

I was gifted a ticket, to anywhere. Past, present, future, anything my mind could imagine, this ticket could get me. Although there was a certain lure to watching the sunset on a beach in Jamaica, or spending copious amounts of money shopping in New York, I found myself using my once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to South Sudan working as a nurse for Doctors Without Borders. However once there I discovered my passion, and drive, and ambition that went beyond working in a hospital. My future awaited me.
For people living in a world filled with violence, it is essential to act as kind and compassionate individuals in order to develop more peaceful communities. According to Orbinski, “[they] are not sure that words can always save lives, but [they] know that silence can certainly kill” (Médecins Sans Frontières - Nobel Lecture). They use language to define a problem and come up with a call of duty. Even though no humanitarian can make peace, the more people that respond to a certain call of duty, the closer they get to a more peaceful community. As a civil society movement, they demand change, not charity. Campaigning for a change in the cost of medicine needed to treat some of their patients is seen as one way that Doctors Without Borders demand change. Members of Doctors Without Borders remain outspoken about the injustice towards humanity by the means of media or speeches, such as the one given by Orbinski 16 years
It’s amazing how far United States have come along when it comes to caring for an individual that you don’t know, yet you are doing everything in your power to save someone’s life. American Red Cross was founded by Clara Barton on May 21, 1881, but before the American Red Cross came into America it was and international movement that was founded by a young Swiss man named Henry Dunant. To know that 40,000 men are laying dead or alive and wounded from a war that soldiers fought for us in the civil war, yet there were no medical attempts to save lives, made Dunant organize local people to help wounded soldiers. The locals helped with wounded soldiers by feeding, and comforting them when in need. In October 1868 the International Red Cross Movement was created in Geneva, Switzerland and their duty was to provide non-partisan care to the wounded soldiers in time of war. (American Red Cross pg. 12, 2011) After the civil
