What Are Guns And How Do They Affect Our Society?

If someone broke into your house and ran toward you aggressively, would you shoot them? If you didn’t have a gun, would you stab them? Guns were invented for the sole purpose of killing other living beings. While a knife can be used for chopping vegetables or whittling wood, and hands that could be used for strangulation have a million other purposes, guns have only one use. Guns can be used by almost anyone, they have become simple to load and operate, and they require little physical effort. While guns have evolved and changed in model and environment over the years since their invention, whether they are used for hunting or murder, guns are always used for death. They made murder quick and effective, changed warfare forever, and are still in daily use today. Guns put the power of death in the hands of anyone who could hold one, and that’s impacted history in a great and horrible way. Death was once a difficult thing to do. To end another person’s life, one either had to wield a knife and brutally stab that person, have the strength to strangle them, or have the resources to poison them. With the invention of the gun, murder was made easy and effective. Controversy has sprung up around guns used in school shootings. The inclination to kill would still live in an aggressor, but if they decided to carry out their aggression without a firearm, it wouldn’t be as fatal. School shootings are a result of the invention of gun; sudden, fast, and expansive mass murders would be almost impossible without the use of guns.
