While Thomas Jefferson was president, he made the decision to cut down the nation's military to pay off the national debt. With this decision came many pros and cons. For example, pros of cutting the military were, less spending, no national debt,, and a smaller government. The cons of this action were, less security, can’t defend all boarders, easier for other countries to take over, people lost their jobs, and there is no one to fight in the wars. The first pro of jefferson's action is less spending. By cutting down the military you wouldn't have to pay as much for equipment, war ships, salaries for people, and weapons. Next, this action payed off the national debt. When the nation pays off the debt states will be happy, and will have less
Jefferson’s core beliefs were to limit the size of the Federal Government. He was a Republican whose vision for America was an Agrarian utopia. Meaning he wanted small agriculture-centered communities to govern themselves as well as the nation. He wanted to stray away from the economic life of urban manufacturing that London was known for. When Jefferson won office, he began to limit Federal power by firing tax collectors, reducing the size of the military, including the navy. Even though Jefferson wanted an Agrarian Republic, he ended up working against himself and even expanded self-manufacturing, industry, small businesses, and even went as far as greatly increasing Federal power more
As the chief author of one of the most important documents in the founding of the Uniited States, it is safe to say that Thomas Jefferson is very connected to the United States. It can also be said that since Thomas Jefferson was so critical in the foundation of American that the nation could have inheirited Jefferson’s flaws and strengths. Thomas Jefferson is a representation of the American.
Thomas Jefferson once said, “When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty.” Thomas Jefferson believed the best government was the one that governs the least . Jefferson stressed how a small government with limited powers is most likely to leave the people alone and have them enjoy the Blessings of Liberty. Furthermore, Thomas Jefferson was a man who had numerous accomplishments in his life. He was the author of the Declaration of Independence, author of the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom, founder of the University of Virginia, and the third President of the United States. His strict interpretation of the Constitution was due to his belief that the charter was designed to provide the people with a say in governmental affairs. Mr. Jefferson won the approval from the working class because he fought for them and not the powerful interests of the wealthy. Although Jefferson was a vocal and active leader in the rights of states, his recommendation of the Embargo Act and his support of the Non-Intercourse act resulted in his failure as the Commander In Chief.
He is best remembered as a great president and as the author of the Declaration of Independence. He also won lasting fame as a diplomat, a political thinker, and a founder of the Democratic Party. Jefferson's interests and talents covered an amazing range. He became one of the leading American architects of his time and designed the Virginia Capitol, the University of Virginia, and his own home, Monticello. He greatly appreciated art and music and tried to encourage their advancement in the United States. He arranged for the famous French sculptor Jean Houdon to come to America to make a statue of George Washington. Jefferson also posed for Houdon and for the famous American portrait painter Gilbert Stuart.
Thomas Jefferson was elected in the 1800’s as the President of United States. During the years of being a president, Thomas Jefferson executed the job very well. He was a great leader for his accomplishments and his philosophies that affected politically as well in other ways; he also showed a lot of affection against slavery. Firstly, Thomas Jefferson was an opponent of slavery. According to research, Thomas Jefferson had said slavery was “moral depravity and hideous blot” (Thomas Jefferson and Slavery Monticello).
I'm Thomas Jefferson, you can call me TJ, When I open the White House door in my PJs. From Virginia; I built a mansion second to none, That's Monticello and all the Southern farmers can come. I wrote the Declaration no big deal then I went to France, Everybody wanted to do the Jefferson dance.
No doubt, many highly regarded things that happened in the United States occurred because of Jefferson. First, he helped write the Declaration of Independence in 1776, which is one of the most impactful things he did. The Declaration laid down a foundation of ideals and goals for our nation. This helped us win our freedom from King George III, and provided a good example for other countries who were also struggling with independence. This was an important change to the United States because it allowed colonists to feel entitled to something. Even now, it has had a lasting effect on us. Next, in 1777, Jefferson wrote a document, The Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom. In it, he had written that he supported practice of any religion, claiming that freedom of religion is a ‘natural right’. This later
I identify with Jefferson because he works for the people. He focused on states’ rights because what may benefit New York might hurt Georgia. Our country has many different industries with the southern states being predominately agriculture and the northern states primarily manufacturing. An example of economic division would be the tariff of 1789. The tariff supported high duties on trade which protected the northern states manufacturing economy but cost the southern planters. The cargo that transported agricultural goods was taxed which became a burden on southern planters. Hamilton pushed for this tariff because he wanted to jump start the small industry in the north. Jefferson disagreed with Hamilton pointing out that tariffs should only be used to raise money for the government and not to create a private sector such as manufacturing. This relates to Jefferson believing in the “invisible hand” theory. That a free
Most Americans know who the founding fathers are. But, not many know what they have done for us and how hard they have worked to be a part of the American Revolution. Subconsciously, each of these men had a great impact on the revolution that started this country. Thomas Jefferson loved education and was well known for being the true author of the Declaration of Independence and for his wisdom. Benjamin Franklin, respectfully known as a diplomat, was also known as a great inventor, printer, and writer. Thomas Paine was a spectacular journalist who is best known for his anonymous pamphlet called “Common Sense.” Through these great men, our country rose.
The Constitutional Convention of 1787 in Philadelphia can be summarized as an “abundance of compromises.” Certainly, a constitution based on compromises can’t satisfy everyone, thus it led to confusion and disagreement on the future of the United States. The economic development of the young nation was fiercely debated, for the most part, from two strikingly different sides. While Alexander Hamilton pursued the betterment of society, indicated by his investment and envision of a pro-industry economy, Thomas Jefferson cared for individuals more than the country as a whole, revealed by his vision of a more agrarian economy. Even though both realities came at the expense of human dignity, Thomas Jefferson’s economic vision, embodied by the greater importance of raw cotton, threatened human dignity to an extent that Hamilton’s outlook, confirmed by the industrial revolution, barely scathed.
We need to make a decision on what to do with the war. I chose Thomas Jefferson for my project to write about. I chose him because he is a very interesting person. Jefferson had a lot of jobs so he was not bored. Thomas Jefferson was a very busy man, he was never bored, he was always on the go.
In Thomas Jefferson’s ideal world, America would be an agrarian utopia with each farmers independent and from the centralized, industrial cities, unlike Europe. He wanted them to be educated, informed and as far away from mercantile as possible. While he was not anti-capitalist, he was anti-mercantile. He made progress with this goal in doing away with all of the taxes sans tariffs and managed to pay off some of the national debt. He was also the last Republican president to shrink the military (when he shrunk the navy). Jefferson also did away with the Hamiltonian bank when the charter expired. However, he counteracted much of this progress with an English embargo. American exports

The outcomes of the Revolutionary war paved the way towards an expansion of territory sought out to respect civil liberties by outlawing slavery , reforming the education platform and is considered one of the most important legislative acts of the confederation congress. Thomas Jefferson was a key player as he created a vision with an empire based on principles novel at the time. On July 13, 1787 the Northwest Ordinance came into place, a new legislation which expanded the original 13 states westward not only acquiring land, but provided a framework for educational organization and political incorporation in the new territories.
Outside knowledge: Jefferson built a navy to help defend the nation and showed that America would act when threatened. He went against his own beliefs in regards to having a federal power of military.
