You wonder how they survived and how some are still willing to go out and fight. When you see a veteran, you realize that this is your home. These veterans have given me a life most people would love to have. These veterans stood up for what they believed in. I will never meet all of them, but I will never be able to express how thankful I am. These veterans are people we pass every day, they don’t expect a thank you. We lose about 1,000 World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam veterans everyday. They should be thanked a lot

It is a battle where many brave souls lose their lives for protecting the country they love. Many of the rights we have today would not have been possible without the sacrifice of many brave American soldiers. Patriots are willing to do anything can to support the cause they believe in. Three people that are considered patriots are Sybil Ludington, Henry Knox, and Nathanael Greene. I also have justice which means that things are fair and you have a fair trial if I go to court and can not just go to jail.

In “Saying Goodbye to Patriotism” Robert Jensen critiques the effects of patriotism on today’s modern society, the United States, and globalization after the attacks on 9/11. Jensen defines patriotism in his talk delivered to the Peace Action National Congress as “love and loyal or zealous support of one’s own country.” (Jensen 741) But, that is not the only definition of patriotism. Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Paine and Patrick Henry expressed their ideas of patriotism in very different ways, but they all one idea in common, to share their powerful writing throughout the world. In many pieces of literature patriotism was shown repeatedly through the writing. For example, The Crisis No. 1, The Speech of Virginia Convention, and The Declaration of Independence all thoroughly conveyed patriotism and a revolutionary pride.

There is much controversy surrounding the idea of patriotism and the iconography of the American flag in today’s society. Some believe patriotism is simply the act of supporting the decisions of the leaders of the country. For their spouses, it is difficult to keep their existing jobs, because they have to move every few years. They have to take care of their houses, and children without his or her help. Most of the Veterans had to pack up and move months at a time. They both could be worried about dying in battle and never seeing your spouse, children, or family ever again. They also miss holidays sometimes because they are drafted in at a certain time. Another sacrifice is their minds, some soldiers come back with post traumatic stress disorder because of what they had to go through. In the Webster dictionary the definition for patriotism is: “one who loves his or her country and supports its authority and interests.” An example of it in a sentence is, “He was a great patriot who devoted his life to serving his country.” My definition of a person who is patriotic is, “a person who regards himself or herself as a defender, especially of individual rights, against presumed interference by the federal government.

Showing a good sense of patriotism is what citizenship means to me. We can show our patriotism by showing our support in our military.
