Chiawana Open House
What is “Open House?” Well, Chiawana’s open house is an incredible opportunity for parents, students, and even teachers to meet each other and in engaging in productive communication. It specifically is an event where Chiawana opens its doors to parents so they have the opportunity to meet with teachers and get a glance into their children's learning day. It's traditionally held mid-October of every school year so families can get acquainted with their children's teachers, acquire information about clubs or new initiatives, and get an overview of classroom expectations, both for academics and behavior. This year the event will take place on Monday, October 17, from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm.
Last year, the event featured a college

The next day on Sunday, February 28 I went to Schilletter Dining Hall at around 3:33 PM. Schilletter was smaller than Harcombe and had a different layout. Schilleter is set in a shape similar to a circle which has the different food stations all around. At first I thought that this place would have more groups of people since it is smaller but it turned out to be the opposite. In schilletter I noticed a larger amount of people isolated from each other. There were more places for people who eat alone to sit because of the layout of the dining hall. It is interesting how the shape and the arrangement of a dining hall can modify how people sit and socialize. Because of the tables being all around people were able to make less contact with each
Oaklands Historic House Museum or Oakland’s Mansion is one of Middle Tennessee’s most historic homes known for its unique Italianate design. The Oaklands Mansion was settled by the Maney family almost two sanctuaries ago. They moved there in about 1818 and started out with a two room cabin which they later built around to make it bigger in the 1820s. With 8 children and the family growing, the next addition to the house was finished by the 1830s.
When I grow up, I want to be a black gum tree. Black gum trees are known for their internal strength. Instead of dwelling on outward beauty, they spend more time focusing on their inner growth and developing their core. Only after they have achieved this goal can they produce beautiful fruits that draw animals near to them. Any surfaces that the berries touch are stained as to say, “I was here and made a permanent difference.” After they have utilized their outward influences, they use their internal scars and hollow places to protect the animals surrounding around it. If human lives were to reflect the concepts of the black gum tree, governments, individuals, and communities would be radically transformed. While this is a beautiful image,

For decades, when a Native American woman has been assaulted or raped by a man who is non-Indian, she has had little or no recourse. Under long-standing law in Indian country, reservations are sovereign nations with their own police departments and courts in charge of prosecuting crimes on tribal land. But Indian police have lacked the legal authority to arrest non-Indian men who commit acts of domestic violence against native women on reservations, and tribal courts have lacked the authority to prosecute the men.
“The House on Mango Street” was written to explain the lives of a family living in poverty in 1984. Coming from Esperanza’s point of view, this book gave her siblings and friends an idea of who the real Esperanza was and what her priorities were. In this book, Esperanza moves from city to city, house to house, with her family hoping for a real house. When she gets to the house on Mango Street, it is not what she expects. She meets new friends and has some crazy experiences. This book has many societal standards but, the most important three are responsibility, happiness, and fitting in.
“ I pledge allegiance to flag of the United States of America …” Esperanza, held her head high up with honor, and as she laid her right hand across her chest she could feel her heart racing with hope. The vied red and white stripes painted rays of joy inside of Esperanza making her feel confident in every word that she spoke. Esperanza watched the flag carefully and was inspired by the way it swayed gracefully through the wind back and forth with great freedom. Closing her eyes she began wishing on each and every divine star that layed behind the rich midnight blue surface of the flag. As she made her wishes she found a promise that no wish was too big because her feet stood in the home of the brave were there was “freedom and justice for all”.
