The Importance of dreams
The novel Of Mice of Men depicts characters dreams through vivid imagery and personal experiences. The characters grow within the story and tell the readers their dream in life. Everyone has one dream, it may be a dream job, to be a mother, a good father or to own a fancy luxury car. Concurrently Of Mice of Men by John Steinbeck paints the journey of two men George and Lennie that travel together through the country side of California to find work. Before arriving in Soledad George and Lennie were forced to leave the ranch in weed because, Lennie was accused of raping a woman that lived there. In the novel John Steinbeck develops the theme of dreams through characters Lennie, George and Crooks by giving each character a vivid image of a dream. …show more content…

Lennie conveys the importance of having a farm with George by talking about the dream multiple times, the farm represents a happy place for Lennie. Naturally Lennie questions George, “George how long till we get that little place and live off the fatta tha lan?” (page 56 Steinbeck) Ultimately Lennie and George built this fantasy of owning and small farm, Lennie expresses excitement about being able to help on the farm. Lennie is reliant of George, he would not work or have anything without George’s help. Again, Lennie asks about the dream of a farm, “An live off the fatta tha lan… an have rabbits.” (page 14 Steinbeck) In brief Lennie’s fantasy to take care of and tend the rabbits is a vivid dream he wants to achieve. He yearns about touching the soft smooth velvet like rabbits. Lennie can be helpful in some ways but, doesn’t know his own strength therefore George is hesitant to let Lennie tend the
