Choices, the story writen by Susan Kerslake is about how the choices that we make everyday affect who we are and how our life can change by making the wrong decission. But is it always a bad decission? is it always our fault? I didn't really like Choices, I feel like it tries to show you that the main character's choice was the problem, how she took the "bad" decission, is almost blaming her for the car accident. The writer made a lot of description, it would have been such an interesting story, because you can put yourself in that position, but the characters were not developed so it was really hard for me to find a connection with them. In my opinion the plot was simple, I couldn't find a deeper meaning for this story. "Love, Loyalty,
Many people face trials and tribulations day to day that mold them into the individuals they are destined to be. These could be positive or negative trials and tribulations, but either way, experiences ultimately are the major key to people’s growth and perception of the world around them. These experiences may be brought on by external factors such as who people surround themselves with (i.e. friends and relationships), neighborhoods and what is considered the “norm” for said neighborhood (i.e. gun violence, gang involvements, drugs, etc.), influences from parents or other caregivers and the amount of time they devote to the growing child. Many people are granted the same opportunity as others, but they let these extrinsic factors sway them from their destinations and wind up in situations based on how they handled previous situations. This idea is true in the novel The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates written by Wes Moore. In this novel, Wes Moore gives the detailing truth about how people are affected negatively by their decisions everyday, but also how positive influences such as role models and caring families have a positive effect on the development and destination of a child. The paths that both the Wes Moores took in life could have easily converged and been taken on by the other. No matter one’s predetermined outcome in life, his or her life can still be drastically shifted due to external influences and resources, much
“We are our choices,” French Philosopher Jean Paul Sartre once said. Everything that happens throughout life is due to a decision made by an individual. That being said, all choices made by an individual have different possible consequences. These consequences will have a cause and an effect. Wes Moore, the author of The Other Wes Moore, explores this idea throughout his entire book. Wes Moore makes a point to show us that a character’s environment, education, and life goals are what guided them to make the choice that determined their fate. In the letter to myself, I used this quote, “The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place; it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me or nobody is going to hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward” (Rocky Balboa). This quote relates to Jean Paul Sarte’s quote because it tells us that we are our choices, and the choices we make are what will determine whether or not you will have successes or failures in life. The quote by Rocky Balboa relates to another quote from Wes Moore, “I sat back, allowing Wes's words to sink in. Then I
How do your choices affect your everyday life? Every choice has a consequence. A consequence doesn’t always have to be bad, it could be good. If you do something good why would you get punished? Or vice versa. Choices, everything you do is your choice. Left or right? Up or down? It’s all up to you. You choose your path, choose wisely though. Choices are like the domino effect.in life there are 2 paths, a good path and a bad path. We all try to go down the good path but that isn’t always the case.
Whether good or bad, decisions make a significant impact on a person’s experience. A common mistake a person can make when it comes to making decisions is their choice only affects them. In reality, decisions not only affect the decision maker, but those who are connected to them. In Willa Cather’s My Antonia, a choice to end their life by their own hands causes the one person who is closest to the deceased to make decisions based on their choice.
Having choices can sometime leave a negative result that could affect others. Because of some individuals who could have caused problems for society,or because of strict individuals working for the government, choices are sometimes limited to the privileged. But it can cause problems for individuals who need the ability to make their own choices for their own sake.
or animals. Decisions are everywhere and you can’t get away from them. The book is called
Choices can be thought of as effortless and swift, or they can require hours of brain work. If anything, the person making the harder choice is put under more stress than accustomed to. Most of the people affected in the choice the person makes know the similar decision process the decider endures. In the novel Surviving the Applewhites by Stephanie S. Tolan, Jake Semple, a known delinquent, unwanted in all schools in Rhode Island, was sent to the Creative Academy so he could improve on his deportment. As the book progresses, Jake is forced to choose a path out of each of the many crossroads featured in the book.
Is life based solely on the choices you make, or does fate come into play? In the case of Ethan Frome, Ethan’s choices and fate, or what he could not control, both affected his life. For example, Ethan is responsible for his feelings for Mattie, marrying Zeena, and easily accepting Mattie’s suicidal idea. However, Ethan cannot control that this story takes place in Starkfield, Zeena’s sickness, or Mattie coming into his life. Based on all of this, Ethan is responsible for a lot of what happened to him, but fate also had a large impact on the outcome of his life. Wharton’s novella illustrates both these themes of fate and responsibility.
In the Poem “Certain Choices” by Richard Shelton, the cause and effect text structure develops the theme that some decisions can make way to subsequent choices. Mr. Shelton states “He died, of course, because of the way he lived”(Richard shelton). His friend made the choice to
The choices that we make today will impact our tomorrow. Whether we realize it or not, every single time we do something, we are making a choice. Many of these choices are subliminal, such as the direction we walk or the way we carry ourselves, but some choices impact the way people look at us. More importantly, some choices impact how successful we are in various things. I chose to write about choices because choices are single handedly the most important thing in the world. Everything we do on a daily basis is a choice, and choices are important to me as a person because they are something I am trying to get better at. The choices made in preparation for assorted events are undoubtedly the most important choices that can be made in our
Choices are an important part of everyone’s lives and the choices we make can reflex who we are as individuals. Choice and the ability to choose are excellent and can represent a sense of freedom. Schwartz’s and Iyengard’s analysis on choice focused on the effects of choice in people and how people react and deal with it. Schwartz’s Official Dogma and explanation of how Americans act in response to choice making is the most relatable to individuals and clearly chows the consequences of too much choice. His analysis can assist to people realize that maybe because we have more choice doesn’t necessarily mean we will make us happier or the best decision will be made. Understanding the consequences of too much choice can possibly make individuals improve the negative effects it can have and make us happier with our
The theme of the story is to make the right decisions because it will lead you to a good or bad outcome that can affect your life.
In the story Freedom To The Press, its tells of a young high school journalist who writes about teen pregnancy in one of the articles. Later that week when the article was published she noticed that the article was missing from the news papers. The principle had removed it. The principal had a choice to remove it. The author had the choice to publish her thoughts on teen pregnancy. Everyday people have a choice. To buy this or to wear that. People will always have a choice unless its hurting themselves or others.
The weaknesses of the story are just too long. It was too broad, and it will make you boring on some pages. It makes you upset because there’s a twist and some words that they used is hard to understand. Even though there are weaknesses of the story, it will make you be a critical thinker. For the example, on how’s her parents could be find. It is exciting because your expected will not be the same as you expect at the last part of the story. Although it is a true story, there is a doubt that can possibly form in your mind because for me, some details are not possible. But all in all, it is beautiful to have read.
Everything you do is a choice. You choose the way you are living today. As we walk on the path of life, we are presented with cross roads and forks. Some are pretty obvious which turn we should take. However, not everything is easy in life. And in the fast pace life we are currently living in right now, we move so fast that we meet many more challenges than before and often, we hastily decide on the choices we make.
