Education teaches one everything such as better knowledge, what is right and what is wrong and gives one the opportunity to learn new stuff. When students start going to school, they start learning basic studies and then at the college level, they are ready for a job. College is the last stage in students’ life where they get ready for a job or career. Bird suggests right, college education should enhance student’s chances for a good job because after many students get a degree in whichever field they like; however, they sometimes don’t get a good job or get a low paying job. “Other field most popular with college graduate are also pathetically small (Bird 128).”

Attending college is costly; however, it is often worth the price. That being said, going into college after high school instead of the working world does provide an opportunity cost. By attending a four-year private institution, such as Franklin College, $40,405 is needed to cover the expenses of tuition, room and board, books, and transportation. Over the course of four years, that total sums up to $161,620. While this figure is without scholarship, grant, or financial aid money accounted for, attending college will still lead to a deficit even if college is completely covered by aid. This is due to the fact that income potential is quite limited while attending college; full-time employment combined with full-time schooling is impractical.

Despite of whether going to college is worth it or not, recent college graduates have become more successful in their lives. Some people may think that attending college is a waste of time and money, while others feel that college gives them valuable skills in the real world. College will help the person gain the necessary work skills for his or her future job career. Moreover, the job that a person gets after college can outweigh the money and time the person spent in college. College graduates will be more favorable to have a better job than those who does not have a college degree. As our generation is rapidly changing, the work- force is getting tougher which means having a higher education is important in today’s world. Having a college degree is an obvious part of the candidate and is expected by the many employers. Nonetheless, going to college can also give students the opportunity network and develop personal connections among other students who are also interested in the career field.

In the article, “What Is College For? (Part 2)” written by Gary Gutting we see a description of his ideal vision to improve education and the intellectual culture of our citizens. Mr. Gutting emphasizes that preparing students for employment should be the job of the elementary, middle and high school rather than college. He argues that higher education is basically unnecessary for the practice of many professions.

Many Americans that are young adults state that college is too expensive for them, so they say that college is not worth its cost. A majority of college graduates, on the other hand, claim that college is definitely worth its cost. To me, I also believe that the cost for college is worth it. It helps the college graduate have a mentally matured mind and a more successful career than those who have never gone to a college.

Barton, a consultant and a writer for topics related on education, wrote an article “How Many College Graduates Does the U.S. Labor Force Really Need?” on giving details on how valuable to have a college degree in the near future are needed when certain occupations are on high demand with a requirement on having a least a bachelor’s degree. We need to know why going to college is so important for anyone who wants to have professional occupations.
