“What it Means to be a America” Many events have occurred in American history that have shaped and defined some of the most influential people in our country. Individuals such as Martin Luther King Jr, Thomas Jefferson, Rodolfo Gonzalez, Hughes, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Malcolm X have been through many hardships in their lives on their way to achieving the American dream. They have endured tough experiences and know what it means to be an American. All of these individuals have the characteristics of determination, courage, and the motivation to fight against social injustice that make up a true, hard-working American. First of all, one characteristic an American should have is determination For example, the Hughes poem states
America is a wonderful place to live, because we are free. Freedom is important, and many people in other countries do not have much freedom. I am glad I have a place like this to grow up in; where I know that I can be equal with other races and other genders. Also, I am glad I have a place like this that will respect me and I know it will be a great place to have my children grow up in.
Ishmael read does an incredible job of pointing out all possible notions that the people who were here before us are,our cause of success. Reed discusses passionately for the ideas and social behaviors that arrived in the United States of America before and after the first wave of European settlers.
What it means to be American? Everybody you ask this question to will have a completely different response. Some responses might have similarities but none will be exactly the same. In the beginning of the year my response was “To be an American means having a rich history, having opportunities to better ourselves, and having freedoms.” Unfortunately not everyone has had the same opportunities or freedoms. Native Americans, who are indigenous, dealt with having their freedoms taken away, less opportunities even though they had rich history in this land before it was taken away from them. Look at what Zitkala-Sa endured. Not only that, but African Americans have fought long and hard for freedom and equality as well. W.E.B. Du Bois stood for
According to the Scholastic News Online, when individuals were given the question of what it means to be an American, most of them described it as “being free” and having certain rights while others gave explicit examples and mentioned the fact that we as Americans receive opportunities such as “voting”. I somewhat agree with most of these individuals. I believe that being an American consists of having certain rights and a given amount of freedom, to a certain extent. I also strongly believe that by being American, we are guaranteed opportunity if we work hard for something. Being an American also means we have the power to make a difference and express what we feel in order to make this country better than before. Coming from a family that had a much more distinct experience than
What does being an american mean to me? Being an american means that I have freedom to do things that I want, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness which the military fights for. Another thing I have is rights that means that I have choices to pick things that I want to do in life like pick a job or do whatever because of the military fighting for are country. I also have justice which means that things are fair and you have a fair trial if I go to court and can not just go to jail.
What does it mean to be American? It is a privilege to be American because I know that I am safe from the things that plague the minds of people living in other places and I have the right to vote and be free. Some of the ways that I represented these main ideals and feelings on my collage was by adding words like Proud, Safe, and Religious Freedom and by adding things like the I voted sticker and the words I’m Free. I featured pictures from different American patriotic holidays, quotes, important documents and songs, and pieces from our money and absurd measurement systems. Us Americans like to be unique, so we try to set ourselves apart with inventions such as the pickup truck, backwards baseball hat, and air conditioner, which I included
In the beginning, freedom was not a given. Many people could not share their opinions, have their own beliefs, or follow their dreams. Freedom had to be earned. The people who fought for our freedom knew that they weren’t fighting for nothing. Being an American means that you are entitled to your opinion. Being an American means you can participate in whatever religion you believe in. Being an American means you can follow your dreams. Today, you can be anything you want to be.
What does being an American mean to me? That is a question that many people over their entire lives have at least once thought about. Being an American citizen gives me many rights and liberties, and that makes this country so unique. I have visited other countries on my vacations, and many have relied on people coming from other countries to help make money, mostly from tourism. These countries have been changing their laws and government to make them more free, but visiting those countries as a tourism-which in some countries I have for months at a time-is very different then living there and being a resident.
In this essay I'm going to talk about what it means to be an American. while explaining what it means to truly be an American. One thing about being American is being able to choose anything you want to pursue say you want to become a basketball player, musician, janitor, and many other opportunities in America an American has, being American is a lot easier then many people think but it is also hard there are challenges that come with the life of an average American just as well as there are rewards that come with it.
What being an American means to me is that we have a roof over our heads, clothes on our backs, food on the table, a house to call home, and people we call family. Being an American is a blessing because there are multiple things available to us that aren’t available in other places. We wake up everyday, thankful for the things we have, the people we have, and also thankful for being alive. I am thankful for my best friend every single day because if I didn’t have her then I wouldn’t have anyone.
Now that I am older and a little wiser, what best describes Americans are our belief system and our ability to overcome obstacles and thrive. Our government is made of and by the people of America. Despite our differences, in America, if you work hard you can succeed. America is boundless, her tenacity is protected, and her essence is freedom and the pursuit of happiness.
Judge Learned Hand made it clear that liberty “lies in the hearts of men and women” and does not depend on any laws nor the constitution. I agree with Hand because it does not matter what the constitution or any law says, if we as people of the United States do not support what the constitution states it is useless. If we are strongly against it, it will not stand. To me, being an American is capitalizing on my freedom and pursuing all the opportunities that are brought forth. We live in a free country and have all the opportunities in the world to do what we please.
The America I believe in allows me to be anything I want as long as I put my mind to it. They give me a proper education, I think in my head when I want to school at least this isn’t anywhere else in the world because I probably would be killed or kidnapped if I walked anywhere else in the world. I love that my family lives in America and not anywhere else don’t get me wrong the other places are wonderful and amazing I shouldn’t be judging them because of what the news says about them I should be traveling to those places to see for myself not believing what anybody else says. America is a great place to live in because there are great school here, you can be whatever you want. There are some wonderful people who live here. The people who are
judge them in private life and so judge them in their public life. He wants us
