The audience is led to think that Lady Macbeth is the main culprit as she thinks up all her grand plans and devious schemes. She is, moreover, a sly person, the person behind the scenes and her husband is easily manipulated and is pushed around by her. Just prior to all of this happening, Lady Macbeth was a very loving wife, and she wanted all the best for her husband. However, after Macbeth send the letter containing the witches prophecies, she turns into a monster who is just as ambitious as her husband and wants to do whatever it takes to “help” him get Duncan out of his way. Although, she take it too far, she adds pressure on Macbeth to commit a crime he is unsure of doing. She even goes to the point of calling him a coward, mocking his bravery and masculinity. Lady Macbeth is a two-faced megalomaniac who is responsible for the murder of King Duncan in the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare. After Macbeth tells her about their probable future of royalty foretold by a group of old witches, she immediately creates a plan to kill the king of Scotland in order to gain control of the throne. She, however, puts this murderous crime upon the shoulders of her husband Macbeth to do the dirty work. In the play, one can see how Lady Macbeth is more responsible for the murder of King Duncan because of her abilities to easily manipulate people into doing what she wants.

Lady Macbeth played a large role as Macbeth’s seductress and brainwasher. Lady Macbeth persuaded her husband to kill the King not so that he would himself be King but so that she could be Queen.Although because of her involvement in this web of lies she felt guilty and drove herself insane worrying about what had happened and what would happen to her and her husband for being so dishonest. She manipulates Macbeth with incredible efficiency by overruling all of his thoughts and changing his perspective on the present. Even though the many tasks that need to be completed are difficult to understand why they need to be done, Lady Macbeth will always convince Macbeth to do it. Her husband often tells her that she has a “masculine soul” which is obvious due to her murderous and envious actions. When the time came to kill king Duncan, Macbeth believes that his wife has gone insane and tells her that the crime they were about to commit was a horrible idea. As a result of his questioning, Lady Macbeth says that executing the crime will show his loyalty to her. On the night of the assassination Lady Macbeth watched the guards of the castle become drunk and unaware of what was going on. Lady Macbeth sent her husband into the castle to kill King Duncan. The married couple fled the scene leaving the guards covered in the evidence. Lady Macbeth and Macbeth are stained with the blood of their victims and the feeling of guilt in their stomach.

The puppeteers were pivotal in Macbeth’s eventual downfall in the tragedy and pulled the strings that led Macbeth to his self-destruction. However, Macbeth in himself was a mentally weak character, adding to the ease of manipulation. These factors proved fatal for Macbeth as his death unfolded at the end of the play and his reign diminished. In Macbeth by William Shakespeare, there are many tragedies presented. However, one thing that changes as the play progresses is who exactly has control over these tragedies. In the beginning of the play, it seems to be Lady Macbeth who has the most responsibility. Although, as the play continues, the control seems to shift over to Macbeth due to all the power he is given once he becomes King of Scotland. From beginning to end, the responsibility changes from Lady Macbeth to Macbeth, with an ending of complete corruption of Scotland.

Macbeth informs his wife Lady Macbeth of the previous events through a letter. She is ecstatic when realising one of the predictions from the witches has already come true. She sets her mind on obtaining the throne for her husband by any means necessary. Lady Macbeth also has a strong desire for power but can only gain this through her husband. She becomes the driving force behind the wicked deed of murdering the King. She summons upon evil spirits to make sure nothing will stand in the way of her plan:

She can manipulate Macbeth easily, this is shown in the line "That I may pour my spirits in thine ear". (I,V, 26) She is selfless, and wants what is best for her husband. Before the speech that Lady Macbeth gives, in act one scene five, Macbeth decides not to go through with the killing of the king. However, Lady Macbeth manipulates at Macbeth's self-esteem by playing on his manliness and his bravery. This then convinces Macbeth to kill the king..Macbeth is like a child who is easily gudied. Lady Macbeth knows this and acts on it accordingly. Although Macbeth has the final say in weather or not to go through with the initial killing, he loves Lady Macbeth and wants to make her happy. Lady Macbeth is the dominating one in the relationship which is shown in her soliloquy.

In William Shakespeare's Macbeth, the necessity of power and control brings out the inner monster in various characters, forming the theme of appearance vs reality. Commitments based on greed for power leads to demise, betrayal and life changing lies, though nothing comes out well with these dark desires. The vast amount of trickery, fraud, and betrayal could only be done by Lady Macbeth, Macbeth, and the three witches as they are willing to live a life filled with the uncontrollable desire for power.

Lady Macbeth can be said to be one of Shakespeare's most famous and frightening female characters. She fulfills her role among the nobility and is well respected, like Macbeth. She is loving, yet very determined that her husband will be king. At the beginning of the play, when she is first seen, she is already plotting the murder of Duncan, showing more strength, ruthlessness, and ambition than Macbeth. She lusts after power and position and then pressures her husband into killing Duncan. Upon receiving the letter with the witches' prophecies from her husband, she begins to think and knowing that Macbeth lacks the courage for something like this, she calls upon the forces of evil to help her do what must be

     Later on (Act 1 Scene 7) Macbeth started to have some serious doubts about the dreadful deed he was planning. He still very much wanted to be King, but his conscience was getting in the way of his "vaulting ambition". However, his wife managed to reassure him that all will be well, and he weakly submits. Nevertheless, it is absurd to suggest that Lady Macbeth was responsible for Macbeth’s decision to kill the King. If Macbeth had not wanted to kill the King, he wouldn’t have, regardless of any amount of bullying from his wife. He knows that he really wants to kill Duncan, it was his initial thought when he first encountered the witches. However, he didn’t like to think he was capable of such atrocities.

At the very beginning of the play, Lady Macbeth is provoked by the letter she receives by Macbeth and starts plotting the murder of Duncan. She also wishes she were a man such that she could commit the murder all by herself saying so in Act 1 Scene 5, “Come, you spirits That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full Of direst cruelty” (Macbeth 1.5.36-52). She appeals to these spirits to remove all aspects of her femininity and seeks to gain power through the prophecy of the witches. Her fear about the ability of her husband to commit the murder is subdued in her designated gender. Lady Macbeth manages her feminine power through her sensuality and pretended weakness through her fainting streak at the notice of Duncan’s death. Manipulation, usually through sexuality is often depicted as the source of women’s power still Lady Macbeth uses this power of hers to commit murder, a masculine demonstration of power. Lady Macbeth in her soliloquy about the planning of Duncan’s death refers to her husband as an individual who plays honestly and does not engage in wrongdoing.
