The Crusades had 9 of battles and the Crusades still affect us to this day. Do you think that the Crusades were more positive or negative? They were more negative because only had battles and wars to take their land or to get back at them.
If the Crusades were more positive and didn’t have so many battles or wars maybe other tribes and groups of people would join the Crusades more often. Document 2 states that the economic impact of the Crusades were “Merchants in Venice and other northern Italian cities built large fleets to carry Crusaders to the Holy Land. They later used those fleets to open new markets in the Crusaders’ land. This is interesting because it tells you what the Crusaders built and later tells us what they use it for. Document
One reason I think Crusades are more negative is that they would massacre innocent people. Document 1 states that “In Europe, Crusaders sometimes turned their fury against Jews, massacring communities.” This is relevant because the crusades put a bitter legacy of religious hatred behind them.Document 6 states that arriving in Constantinople in 1204, the Venetian, who had been hired to transport the Crusaders, and the
The Crusades were an unpleasant event that happened for many reasons. It was established in 1096 and thankfully ended in 1291. The cause for why the Crusades had a more negative result is because most people died from participating or majorly hurt. This is because Document 6 states “The city was savagely taken with many lives lost” meaning that people had died. So, the continued fighting that took place because of the Crusades had a huge negative impact on the many people that lost their lives. In addition, Document 1 states “In Europe, crusaders sometimes turned their fury against Jews, massacring entire communities.” Which meant that full families including children were slaughtered, killed and destroyed because the crusaders were mad at
During the 11th century, as the crusades began, Europe’s main religion, Christianity, divided into Catholicism and Eastern Orthodox. During this period of divergence in Europe, Islam flourished. Trade helped spread religion and languages throughout Asia & Africa, while Europe paled in comparison. Given the situation that Europe was in at the time of the crusades, it’s easy to call into question the motivations behind the crusades. The first crusade, supporting the Byzantine Empire, was called for by Pope Urban II, in an apparent combination of Christian Europe behind the image of the Cross. While the results and advantages for Europe springing from the First Crusade may suggest otherwise, the Crusades were called together solely to further
DBQ: Impact of the Crusades The crusades was a Holy war between the Christians and the Muslims. It started in Europe and because they wanted to free the Holy Land from Infidels. It sated in the year 1095. I think it is negative because it originally belonged to the Jews.
They were the bloodiest wars in History and were the cause of hundreds of thousands deaths. That is a really bad thing, but there are also some positive things. So in this essay, I will answer the question: “Were the Results of the Crusades Positive or negative”
The Crusades had many significant impacts on Europe, including social development, political influence, changes in culture, and increased use of trade. All of these factors lead Europe to be a more developed location with a stricter government and system of laws. Specifically, the Crusades managed to increase wealth of the Church, which allowed more power to be put in the hands of the Pope and impacted their authority, which made many individuals look up to the Church for guidance and support. The Crusades also had the ability to change trade and commerce in Europe due to a constant supply of materials for ship-building. The Mediterranean Sea was majorly used to transport goods across the sea and to other areas, which improved relations with
The Crusades was a horrific time. Many people had lost their lives, friends, even family. The Crusades were a battle over the holy land, Jerusalem. The Crusaders, people who had fought in the Crusades, were Christians. They wanted the holy land because they believe that’s where Jesus had died and rose. They had fought against the Muslims who were defending themselves against the Crusaders. The Crusades had its positive outcomes as well as its negative results. Some may wonder, were the results of the Crusades more Positive or Negative? I strongly believe the outcome was mostly negative mainly because the Crusaders didn’t win the holy land, lots of lands were destroyed, and so many people lost their lives in the battle of the Crusades.
This paper will explore the various impacts the crusades had on medieval history. Starting with a brief explanation of the crusades themselves the paper will go into detail in regards to the aforementioned impacts, which range from banking to changes in social perception. The Crusades, which took place between 1095 to 1487, were a series of military campaigns sanctioned by the Roman Catholic Church. Their creation can be credited to the 1095 conflict between the Byzantine empire and the Seljuk Turks after the latter took over Anatolia, which originally belonged to the Byzantines. Unable to fend off the Turkish forces by their own power, the Byzantine Emperor of the time, Alexios I, reached out to Pope Urban II (r. 1088-1099) for aid.
The Crusades were a negative experience not only for the Middle Ages of Europe, but also for the entire world to this day. The Crusades' negative impacts came from the mass amount of death, the complicated religious aspects that concluded from it, and the abuse of power to receive glory. The Crusades’ influence affects the world today, but its impact on their current period was a bleak and traumatizing experience. Throughout the Crusades, the probability of dying was so high that, as a child, you were unlikely to make it to adulthood. However, if you did so, it was almost definitive that you would lose one of your parents by then.
Many people went on a crusade for different reasons. Many were strictly religious, while others were money related, some even went to avoid imprisonment. The Crusades still impact the world we live in today. There are many lasting effects that the crusades had on that part of the world and some even worldwide.
Without The Crusades there would be very little to the development of Western Europe. The Crusades were very important, and with any large moment, there are struggles and gains. Money is a big role that effects time periods, and the economy in each time will change the outcome to the time period. The currency was split in two ways, with kings and nobles or the poor people desperately. The Crusades helped bring in revenue to Eastern Europe through goods they brought back.
The Eastern world was greatly impacted by the Crusades. One way they were impacted is having created more trade, they were better economically. Document E says, “Commerce with the West benefitted both Muslims and Europeans, and it continued to flourish.” The evidence shows how trade positively impacted not only the Eastern world, but the Western world as well. A second way the Muslims were affected by the crusades was that a hatred was created between the Eastern and Western world. Document A states, “They also left a bitter legacy of religious hatred behind them.” This tells us that the Crusades created hatred between many religions. Overall the Eastern world was exceedingly affected by the Crusades, but not as much as the Western world.
The Crusades were a failure in their goal of conquering the Holy Land for Christians. They cost a lot to the European nobility and resulted in thousands of deaths. Nevertheless, these expeditions influenced great transformations in the medieval world. They have weakened feudal aristocracy, strengthened royal power, and made possible the expansion of the market. Eastern civilization contributed much to European cultural enrichment, promoting intellectual development. Never again was Jerusalem dominated by Christians, but the movements on the way to the Holy Land expanded relationships with the known world at the time.
There were both positive and negative effects of The Crusades, although the positives did outweigh the negatives. The two major negative effects were anti-Semitism and the orchestrated attacks by Venice. Many Crusaders in Europe were so religiously fuming, that they turned their anger towards the Jews. They would at times massacre a whole community as a result of their religious rage. During the fourth crusade, crusaders began fighting Christians instead of Muslims. After helping Venetian merchants defeat their Byzantine trade rivals in 1204, the crusaders captured and looted Constantinople. They actually ransacked the capital of the Byzantine Empire, the empire in which they began to fight for, not against. There also were many positive effects of The Crusades, one being the increase of trade. Even before the Crusades, merchants began to enjoy some of the luxury goods that were brought from the Byzantine Empire. The crusaders that
Many people consider the Crusades as wars of bloodlust, greed, and power. War can be described as an escalated conflict, most commonly over money or other resources. The outcome of war is usually the advancement of one society due to its newly acquired resources or knowledge. If one were to look at the Crusades, and their original purpose, which was to assist Constantinople and free the Holy Land from Muslim control, then one may make the conclusion that the Crusades failed. Although the Christians did not win over the Holy Land, Europe as a whole benefited greatly from the revival of East to West trade, and new inventions and innovations that arose during the time of the Crusades.
