Every day people make decisions that affect their future lives. What makes a right decision? What may be right to some may be wrong to others. Right and wrong decisions are objective and vary among each individual. “Hills Like White Elephants,” by Ernest Hemingway, portrays the idea of decision making between two characters in a valley in Spain as they wait for a train to arrive. Jig, the protagonist, attempts to make a crucial change in her life by making the right decision, although her flaws, including indecisiveness, prevent her from taking action in her decision. Jig and the American have had a romantic relationship for quite a while and now their future together is in jeopardy. The two of them are having a conversation on whether or not Jig should get an abortion. The man is trying to convince the woman to do something she is hesitant to do. Hemingway uses metaphors and symbolism to express their feelings and decision-making.
Pikes Peak is a beautiful, rocky mountain with a fantastic view. The day my family and I were going to go up Pikes Peak the day was gorgeous. Heading up the mountain is so relaxing, having conversations with my family while looking out the tinted window. Looking out my window I could see columns and rows of the most perfect looking pine trees rising up the peak. During the climb it was so admirable and calm as I was thinking in my head, what a perfect day. The view was fantastic as I got to see the world breathing in all of the fresh air. Pikes Peak has three lakes which are very inviting with its clear blue water glistening from the sun. The lookout on the very tip of Pikes Peak was very foggy and chilly. The view was pretty cool since I’ve

Today I was given a set of poems to read and choose one to analyze. I decided I would use Big Rock Candy Mountain as my poem of choice. I recognize this poem as a song written by Harry McClintock in 1928. The song is one of the few that can still make sense in today’s culture and society and in my opinion is the mark of a truly great writer.

Hiking is an enjoyable way to explore the country side. Since Chewacla offers six different trails so tourist options are not limited. The Sweat Shrub Trail is one of the easiest to follow. When I last visited the park the Boy Scout and the Troup 30 Boy Scout Trail were the most popular. Clues are provided among the way to assist tourist throughout the trails. Trekking through the back woods of the park is my definition of beauty and entertainment.

This is a challenging hike and does require experience as it is about six and a half miles round trip and ascends over 2,700 feet. Permits are required

In history and life you need freedom to be happy because you can make your own choices. In history we have learned that if some person makes you do something by force you will be unhappy because you cannot make your own choice but instead have to follow rule even if you do not like it. The book portrays that when Will and his friends make the choice of running away from the Tripods to the White Mountain, the result of their choices is the freedom to think on their own without the Tripods controlling their mind. If their mind is not controlled by the Tripods they can create a plan to destroy the Tripods once and for all to free their city from the Tripods control. One example we have learned in history was the Middle Passage, this was when

In Hemingway’s “Hills Like White Elephants”, the use of the third person objective view is very important due to how it can affect the tone of the narrative and the emphasis of the main themes. The tone of the narrative would be completely altered if Hemingway used a different point of view and would most likely not create the sense of mystery that the third person objective view successfully does. Point of view is important because it is how the author wants the reader to perceive what is occurring in the story by focusing the reader’s attention on the details they want to be emphasized, such as the themes. The narrator in the “Hills Like White Elephants” provides only basic information that is needed for the reader to get some understanding about the narrative.
