The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet “Love is a smoke made with a fume of sighs.” In the Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare displays two star-crossed lovers whose fate is ripped apart by deaths hands. The characters responsible for the young lovers’ death are Romeo Montague, Juliet Capulet, and Friar Laurence. Juliet is responsible for their death because she ignores her self-conscience. “And all my fortunes at thy foot I’ll lay and follow thee my lord throughout the world.” Love has clouded Juliet’s mind causing her to act irrational and sacrifice everything for him including their lives. In the balcony scene she states, “Although I joy in thee, I have no joy of this contract tonight. It is too rash, too unadvised, too sudden.” Knowing their relationship is rapidly exceeding, Juliet continues to get married. Juliet declares, “O God, I have an ill-divining soul! Methinks I see thee, as one dead in the bottom of a tomb. Either my eyesight fails, or thou lookst pale.” Her vision causes her …show more content…

In the balcony he declares, “My life were better ended by their hate than death prorogued, wanting of thy love.” One flaw is that he falls in love to easily. Romeo implies that he would rather die if Juliet did not love him. His eagerness to marry Juliet after meeting her causes him to speak irrationally. He also states, “O tell me, friar, in what vile part of this anatomy doth my name lodge? … that I may sack the hateful mansion.” Another flaw is his extreme hastiness. Romeo almost stabs himself with his dagger after hearing Juliet is in despair, but the friar immediately stops him. The reader sees Romeo’s last flaw when he declares, “Well, Juliet, I will lie with thee tonight…Let me have a dram of poison.” After hearing the news of Juliet’s “death”, his impulsiveness causes him to visit the apothecary rather than waiting and or taking the time to think rationally.
