The black citizens are being racially profiled by other races. Treated differently and acted like they are not part of society. In Harper Lee’s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, a lawyer named Atticus Finch in Maycomb Alabama has an option to help an innocent black man that is being accused of raping a white woman, Mayella Ewell, but his family will be in danger or just drop the case but put the black man, Tom Robinson in jail. In the book “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, Tom Robinson is in trial for the supposed rape of Bob Ewell’s daughter, Mayella Ewell. Tom Robinson was on his way home when Mayella Ewell asked him to help her with something. Imagine having your life on the line because someone thinks you have committed a crime you did not commit. During the 1930s colored people were put down and were inferior to whites. Everyone was trying to find a place in society but it was made especially hard for the African Americans in this time. They were pushed to the bottom of everything and treated like nothing. In Harper Lee's very impactful book To Kill a Mockingbird, she illustrates what it was like for one black man to be pushed aside like he was nothing mainly because he was black. The amount of inequality in America has dramatically decreased throughout the years. Social equality is something that everyone has always wanted. One of the biggest inequalities is African American rights. Constantly there is always a change being made that has made African American rights much better. In Maycomb, Alabama, during the Great Depression, there is poverty and racism ruling over the South. Scout Finch has yet to realize all the evil surrounding her and her family. The evil that takes over Maycomb is the racism that lives in the hearts of its citizens. In To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, readers see a view of social injustices caused by racism through the Maycomb citizens who see the world through a veil of hypocrisy, which is shown by their actions in the way they talk down to Tom, and the truths of Maycomb’s society.
People will have different opinions before reading this, but after reading this character analysis on Tom Robinson, it will change what you think of Tom Robinson. He is the one who is willing to help others when they need it. Tom is also the one who went into court for a crime, but with the odds against him. Most importantly he is the one who brought out Boo Radley to life from the shadows. Tom Robinson is a foil, a kind person, and also someone who went into a trial.
After three trials of Tom Robinson and Mayella Ewell fighting for their innocence of a serious case, Tom Robinson was shot dead by police around 6:17 p.m. two days ago, August 31st, after climbing up the fence of Maycomb County jail, in an effort to escape. He was dead after 2 shots to the chest, however, he was shot 17 times by the officers. There is no evidence as to why those extra shots were necessary. It is said that Robinson was trusting everyone when they
