‘From forth the loin of these two foes/ A pair of star crossed lovers take their life’ 1.2.chorus. Romeo and Juliet, a very famous play written by William Shakespeare, is filled with nearly every powerful emotion imaginable, love, lust, hate, desire, spite, joy, happiness, depression, adoration, anger, vengeance and so many more. The tragic deaths of Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet were brought about by how the people around them and they themselves dealt with these emotions. Blame is defined in the dictionary as to feel or declare that someone/something is responsible for a fault or wrong. So who out of all of the culprits was really to blame? The Capulets, the Montagues and the feud boiling between them, Prince Escalus, Tybalt, …show more content…
He was the person who married them and respected their wishes about keeping it a secret and the person who both Romeo and Juliet seeked advice from after the Prince declared that Romeo be banished, and who laid out the plan to fake Juliets death so her and Romeo could be together again. But could he really be trusted? Though his intentions seem sincere on the surface they could have been tainted with ulterior motion. Marrying the two-lovebirds had the ulterior motion behind it to finally stop the family feud which is a thing that every one in Verona would be pleased about. But by him agreeing to not tell anyone of their matrimony is also agreeing not to tell people about the resolution to the feud gives the impression that he was planning something. Of course he could have been acting out of kindness and respect, giving the couple time to figure out how to share their news, but given how bad the situation between the families was at the time it does not seem likely. It seems as though he wanted to be solely responsible for bringing peace back to Verona, and he would have gladly told the families immediately if Romeo had not been banished. He still did not confide in anyone after this because then his plan would have failed. Instead he came up with a new plan that in turn ended the lives of both Romeo and Juliet. And in the end of all this, when Juliet was contemplating killing herself at the sight of Romeos
I don’t see it to be just one person to blame. You can very easily blame many people, they all took part in this tragedy, let me explain. You can make an argument believing that Romeo is to blame. After all he was the one who initiated a relationship with a family nemesis. However, why should the fault be put on Romeo? He wasn’t the reason the families hated each other. Romeo just liked a girl and went for it. I hold it to be true that one could say Capulet is the reason as well, for without him forcing Paris onto Juliet she wouldn’t have faked her death. Juliet was already married in secret, so clearly she wouldn’t have wanted to get married again. This leads to the one I would have to blame the most. The Friar, although he was trying to be helpful and nice, he actually caused quite a problem. If he hadn’t married Romeo and Juliet then Juliet wouldn’t have faked her death since she probably would have married Paris. Romeo most likely wouldn’t have killed himself over a faked death, Mercutio would not have been slain by Tybalt and life would be normal in Verona.
Friar Laurence was trusted by the Montagues and the Capulets. To start off, Friar Laurence was the first person Romeo went to talk to about Juliet the day after they met. Romeo calls out to
Blame is a huge factor of Romeo and Juliet. They blamed Romeo for Tybalt's death which got him banished. Romeo killed Tybalt because Tybalt killed M and Romeo revenged M death by killing M so he got banished for killing him . Blame is significant to Romeo and
In the play “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare many souls where taken away including but not limited to, two star crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet. Though many people argue who is to blame for all of the catastrophes the ones we should point our fingers towards is both the Montagues and Capulets. Both families wouldn’t appreciate that Romeo and Juliet where in love instead, they let the ever burning feud in between them to continued being lite. The first reason why both the Capulets and the Montagues are to be blamed is, they both keep these grudges that are passed on from generation to generation.
The first example that shows this is in Act 1, scene 2, where Romeo was asked to read an invitation sent by Lord Capulet himself. The only problem was, the servant he sent was illiterate, therefore asking Romeo to read the invitation and that’s how he found out about the party. Inevitably, Romeo arrived at the party and Tybalt was very quick to speak, he spoke to his uncle Capulet and said, ”Uncle this is a Montague.” Capulet replied with,”young Romeo is it?” Tybalt wanted to kill him in that instant, at this time Lord Capulet said,”content thee, gentle coz, let him alone.” Because Romeo was left alone, he met Juliet. Another example of Lord Capulet possibly being to blame is in Act 3, scene 5, where Capulet is forcing Juliet to get married to someone whom she has no interest in, little does he know she is in love with Romeo. Juliet goes against his decision to have her married off: instead of feeling sympathy for her, he hits her and calls her a “disobedient wretch.” Some of the blame might be for Capulet in these circumstances but their own fate is still to blame because Romeo showed up and because Capulet let him be so he met Juliet; out of all the other women there, he only fell for
“My friend Tybalt got his mortal hurt in behalf - my reputation stain'd with Tybalt’s slander- Tybalt, than an hour” (Shakespeare 231). Romeo murdered Juliet's cousin for killing his friend and blamed fate for his actions. “Hence from Verona art thou banished. Be patient, for the world is broad and wide” (Shakespeare 238). The outcome of Romeo’s decision caused him to be banished from his home town and never being able to see Juliet again. The actions and decisions Romeo made were essential to the development of the play as well as him blaming fate for his
I also think Capulet and lady capulet are to blame as well. This is because he had arranged for Juliet to get married to Paris who was nothing alike Juliet. If the father of Juliet would of just listened to her, but instead Capulet ignored Juliet and took decisions into his own hands when its Juliet’s marriage. That is why I thinkCapulet is the reason for the death. Lady Capulet and capulet could also if they had just listened to there daughter instead of thinking about themeselfs, then everything would have gone to plan. Lady Capulet and capulet is too busy worrying about there selves , and they are acting like they have no time for Juliet.
After Romeo tells the Friar about his induction of love for Juliet, he tries to reason with Romeo and be discreet and have Romeo be pensive about this big decision and commitment. Instead of Romeo doing what the Friar tells him on page 121 Romeo responds with, “Let’s go. I insist on being quick about this.” Not only does Romeo make the rash decision to marry Juliet, he also decided to rush into the wedding as soon as possible. He completely purged his thoughts and feelings for Rosaline, whom he had supposedly loved dearly. He was depressed because Rosaline did not love him back. Only hours had passed and he already had supposedly fallen in love with Juliet Capulet, his adversary’s daughter. Due to Romeo’s quick and thoughtless action of marrying Juliet, both Romeo and Juliet ended up committing suicide.
The tale of the greatest tragedy in all of Verona, yes the death that befelt Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet. Lovers who died after being pushed to great lengths. Yes they died after a plan where in everything had to go right one thing went wrong. But who is to blame? Why the star-crossed lover are at fault for what befell on them that fateful day.
The controversial age-old question that is bound to vary no matter who you ask is who is responsible for the tragic end of Romeo & Juliet. In the above-mentioned Shakespearean tragedy, the adults' schemes, beliefs, and selfishness are the predominant factors that lead to the demises of the title characters. Though some of the blame can be pinned on Romeo and Juliet, the parents', the Nurse's, and the Friar's emotionally driven decisions had the tendency to backfire on them. In the end, they caused more harm than good for Romeo and Juliet and for the people of Verona.
which as they kiss consume.” (Shakespeare, Act 2, Scene 6 ). Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare. In the play, Romeo and Juliet are “star-crossed lovers.” Romeo sees Juliet at a party and instantly falls in love with her. It was love at first sight. Romeo and Juliet’s families don’t like each other, but they are determined to be together through it all. They secretly get married. Romeo kills someone close to Juliet and gets banished. Romeo and Juliet are both very upset and would do a lot to see each other again. Juliet loves Romeo so much that she refuses to marry Paris. They kill themselves for each other.
In the tragedy of 'Romeo and Juliet' there are many characters at fault for the sad outcome. Three main people are to blame above all others, however. Lord Capulet, the nurse, and Friar Laurence are the most responsible for the untimely deaths of the lovers, Paris, Mercutio, and Tybalt. Although they did not intentionally kill the youths their actions led to the murders and suicides of these characters.
There are many people to blame for what occurred in the Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Unfortunate events were conveyed one after another. But the characters that provided the most impact are the most to blame. William Shakespeare's play gives us insight on how fate plays a role and what could have happened if things were timed differently.
In the play of “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare, Shakespeare decides to surround the play around the idea that secrecy is the only way that these two lovers from first sight could be together. Shakespeare deciding to not reveal the secret of Romeo and Juliet being in love affects to plot and contributes to the meaning of the work as a whole. Secrecy in the play of Romeo and Juliet negatively affected the plot by involving family, many deaths, and guilt. Romeo and Juliet felt the need to keep it a secret that they’re in love and have been in love since the moment they laid eyes on one another the night of the feast. The reason these two lovers feel as if it’s best to keep their love to themselves is because of the feud between the
In this play Romeo and Juliet make some really bad decisions regarding their relationship. Juliet loves her husband Romeo, but you will soon find out the bad mistakes Juliet has made, and what it leads to. One of Juliet's bad choices is when she chooses not to tell her father about her current marriage to Romeo, and pretends to do what her father has told her. If Juliet would have told her father the truth, she would have probably got in trouble, because she is not allowed to date or even marry a Montague. Since her father now doesn’t know about their marriage this could turn into something a little bit bad for Juliet. Juliet makes these decisions because she feels that if her father found out she is married to Romeo then
