I think that many athletes don’t really work at all. To get money is very easy. All you have to do is show up to a ballgame and get a thousand dollars. You just have to play around for money. I’m against it because it’s easy, and easy shouldn’t get you paid.
A reason why I don’t like the fact athletes, entertainers, or musicians get payed is because they play around. When I say play around I mean entertainers and athletes do what they want to do. If I could separate musicians and athletes, I would say athletes just play around, while on the other hands musicians has to work for money. They have to think which requires work.
Another reason why I don’t like why athletes get paid is because teacher, officers, and much more work really, really
I agree that professional athletes and entertainers should be payed a lot of money. They take risks of being hurt, they entertain us, and they have certain skills that most people don't have. People wouldn't do these things if it wasn't for the money. Some people might because they like to. Many players and entertainers don't like what they do, but they know they are good and can make money.
Critics would argue saying based on National Labor Relations Board in Chicago, playing college athletics for the NCAA could technically be classified as a “job”. This is true, however, this isn’t what playing college athletics should be all about. Kate Murphy again has a response saying, “College athletes need to recognize their opportunity as a privilege, that most young kids aspire to attain, but are never given to opportunity to have. Just do it for the love of the game, because that’s what it is, a game. The last thing athletes want to happen is to turn college sports into a chore or a job with an hourly wage. Then the pure love gets lost.” The meaning behind that is that many people watch college sports because of what modern professional sports are like, they want to see young men and women who play the game hard, for the name on the front of their jersey, not the one on the back, and for the love of the game not the money or fame. That being said college athletes should not get paid because playing is a
Some will argue that athletes shouldn’t get paid because they are paying for the athletes college. But these athletes are working extremely hard to find a balance between school work and practicing and preparing for both regular season games and playoffs. "…The typical Division I college football player devotes more than 40 hours per week to his sport…Meanwhile, the annual NCAA Division I football championship is played on a Monday night,
If an employee earned millions of dollars for a company and received little to no compensation, many issues would arise, possibly even a riot. In contrast, when this same dilemma comes about for a collegiate athlete, the only people who believe that these athletes deserve this money are the athletes themselves. The definition of a full-time job is commonly considered to be a 35-40-hour work week, and these everyday employees get paid, so why do college athletes who work over 40 hours for their sport not get paid (Edelman, Marc)? During recent years, there has been a great debate that has arisen over whether these athletes deserve to be paid for their hard work, rather than simply receive scholarship money that the athletes never see. Many spectators wish to preserve the amateurism of the sport, filled with athletes that play because of their love for the game, not because of a paycheck. On the other hand, there are a growing number of proponents who firmly believe that
One reason that the athletes should be payed, is that they put there body on the line each and every game. They even risk their personal health during training and conditioning. “ There have been instincts of players becoming permanently paralyzed” (Patterson). These players were not forced to play the game, but they chose to put there body on the line for the name of the game.
Football and men’s basketball players bring in the most revenue out of every college sport. If they were the only athletes to be paid, other athletes may say that’s unfair and push to be paid as well. Their argument could be
My opinion on this on this problem is that athletes should be paid because they work just as hard as all pro athletes. They deserve recognition for what they're doing. With the motivation to make this money they'll play harder and harder to collect their pay. You can get the most out of people if money is involved. They say money is the root of all evil but this can make money be the root success. More money being paid to them the more success they can have in their seasons.
basketball game, I had to miss a bit of his party but I Need to play more
Opponents of this view say that athletes’ deserve the money paid because payment is being received for a service - entertainment.
D1 colleges make hundreds of thousand even millions because of the players and the players get none of it. How is that fair to the players? I know you will all say that they already get a scholarship and that is enough but most scholarships are about twenty thousand dollars a year but most college players only stay in college for a year. Shabazz Napier the UConn basketball star, says that he went to bed starving most nights. Shabazz was a role model to many kids in America and was almost at the point of being famous. Yet he still couldn’t afford to go get something for dinner after practice. Many people would say to get a job, how are you supposed to get a job when you have school, workouts, and practices or games
Over 70 percent of full time employees work 40 hours or more a week (Wesley, Daniel). These individuals have what many would consider to be a job. So why is it when an athlete spends 40 or more hours a week dedicated to a sport it is considered anything less (Alessi, Dominic)? College athletes cannot be paid or accept any free merchandise of any sort because of rules currently set by the NCAA. The reason for this ruling is to keep the integrity of the “amateur” athletics. It’s an amazing fact that these “amateur” athletes find a way to bring in billions of dollars annually by just being mediocre at their trade. By this logic people should be lining up to buy season tickets to see their math teacher run a 7.2 forty yard dash or pull
Many people go to work for an average of 40 hours a week to earn money to provide for themselves and their families, but many jobs are going with any payment in return. College athletes spend 50 hours a week practicing their sports, according to Nocera. This equates to more than a full time job. Many athletes see their sport as a job, an unpaid job. College athletes should be paid for playing sports at their universities. Many universities get high amount of revenue from sports, for example the profit from football is in the millions. Some colleges even accommodate 40 million in football earnings, but none of these revenues are given to the football players. Furthermore, many college athletes have tougher lives than those in the professional
From the 66% of boys who have played sports to going from the 1.1% that can make it to the pro level. These people have put copious amount of work and time to get to this level and people still say they don’t deserve their pay. Sports have been around for thousands of year and have been enjoyed by billions. Since Billions will pay to watch sports it generates billions for each sports industry, and the players involved in their sport deserve a cut of that money earned. I claim that athletes are not overpaid because they earn revenue for their team, less than 2% make it to the professional level, and PGA players earn most of their money through tournament winnings.
Athletes argue that they are role models for children and endorse products. This is true, but it is what goes along with the job. I would be prod if I knew that billions and billions of young impressionable children wanted to be just like me. You should not have to be paid to be a role model, there is no reason that one should be negative, commit crimes, and do “bad” things regardless of you being an athlete or not. It should be an honor to be praised and loved by billions, this is why I feel the reasoning of the professional athletes that demand higher wages are illegitimate.
We tend to play sports everyday, at every age and at basically every location. However, it is not necessary to pay athletes with an above-average wage. On top of that, athletes get millions of dollars worth of sponsors. That money could be used for someone in the more poverty-filled locations of the world Some athletes have the heart and chose to donate a huge portion of their yearly earnings; however, most don’t. Some of these athletes have huge sums of money that they don’t even know what to do with, so they choose to use it in wrong ways and that is not acceptable. Therefore, in my opinion, there are other occupations in the country that deserve a pay raise white athletes need a deduction.” Says Tulsi
