Attending college in Montana is important to me for a variety of reasons. I have many friends and family that are attending colleges all over Montana and I would like to stay close to them! I also have a lineage in Montana going back generations on both sides, so it would be very meaningful to me to stay in my home state. Going anywhere else I would miss the environment, scenery, Montana customs, and most importantly the people. My family means a lot to me and almost all of my immediate and extended family live in the state. Having in-state tuition is a crucial factor to come out of college debt free and be able to start making a difference in the world as soon as possible. Montana also has well-developed programs in both degrees of computer
Every child has a dream, whether it’s to be a doctor, a police officer or a fire fighter. As a child I always had one dream: I wanted to become a teacher. Many days I would come home after school, along with my sisters and cousins, and play “school.” I was always the teacher. I would stand by the door, papers in hand, giving them work to do. I especially liked spelling tests. When they were finished with all of their work, they would go outside to “recess” while I graded their tests. Growing up, this activity was more fun than anything else I might have done with my free time. I never got tired of being the “teacher”. Now as a college student many people often ask me, “What are you majoring in?”, “What are you going to school for?” and I
As a first generation student, academic promise hasn’t always been a focus of mine until my high school years. Coming from a family where the only post-high school education is whatever training you receive at work, it is hard to relate when the possibility of university is so far away. Four years after high school, I have not only worked full time but also received my associates degree from my hometown community college. That is all great thanks to the family that have raised me, and taught me that hard work is the only work capable of doing. My parents never had the opportunity to attend college, so they taught me what they knew in life instead; where manners are always required, hard work is mandatory, and when finished with that work; you
While I have been raised in an environment where all the resources I needed to attend college were available to me, I believe my greatest accomplishment is being accepted into a California University and doing well. After graduating high school, my parents informed me that they would not be able to afford a four year university, and that I would have to attend Junior College first. I was completely devastated. All of my peers were attending four year colleges right out of high school, and I was left behind. I developed an extreme depression that I didn't think I would be able to escape from. I realized though, that if I worked hard enough and did well, I would be attending a University in no time. I pushed through my depression, worked hard
In the United States it is almost every child’s dream to attend college or receive a degree. Most people don’t know what subject to major in or which university to attend. There are two main roles in deciding where someone goes to college. The two roles that have the biggest decision making impacts are family, and finances. Family can influence you into going somewhere they would like you to go but you don’t really want to, and depending on how much it cost to go to college can impact your decision too.
Am I free? I asked myself over and over again after reading a quote “Only the educated are free.” As concluded by Epictetus (55 AD - 135 AD), Discourse. I then realized I was not free. I want to be free, but how? I asked myself. Do I need to be rich or do I need to be the happiest man on earth? It finally occurred to me after pondering over it for some time. I need to work my way up the very top of the educational ladder and not just quit with a high school diploma nor halfway of my educational journey. I then realized why and how college education is important to me. I have what
Occupied with obstacles, life is not tranquil. I’ve been attending college occasionally since 2007. A brilliant student throughout high school, but life changed for me in college that resulted in being incapable to stay. From living in my car to unable to pay the high cost of college, resulted in having to drop out. My dreams of going to college seemed unreachable. I was the first in my family to attend college. Above all, my family came from Mexico to provide a superior life for my siblings and I. College was always in our conversations and it fueled my desire to outshine in school. That dream was cursorily diminishing away. Luckily, I discovered the Urban Leadership Program (ULP) at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) in
Patty Murray said “A good education means learning to read, write and most importantly learn how to learn so that you can be whatever you want to be when you grow up.” Getting a college education will help open so many doors and give me opportunities to better myself, and provide me with a more successful life that I can be proud of. In today’s society it is hard to get a good job or have a stable career without first getting a college degree. A college education is important to improve my chance at getting my dream job; also to give my family a better life. It will help me to improve myself and become a more prepared person for stepping out into this world. This is important so I can be a role
What do I do? How do I know I won’t make the wrong decision? What if I hate it…? These questions are asked by every senior in high school contemplating where to attend college next fall. With so many options out there, what’s the right option for you? Big school, small school, liberal arts school, etc. How do I choose? How do you choose… Michigan State University or Central Michigan University, two amazing options, what do I choose.
Attending college and earning my degree is very important to me for a few big reasons. I know that the money should be the number one reason and although it is a good reason, it is not the most important. I need to show myself that I can do this. My whole life I have been told that I couldn’t do things. From far back as I can remember I was the one who didn’t have a future as anything. I need to do this for myself, to show me that I can do it. I do not need a man or anyone else to support me because I am smart and very capable. The next reason is to show my daughter, Aberdeen, that education is important. It doesn’t matter if you want to be a wife and stay at home mom, you never know what life is going to throw at you and you have to have
Theodore Roosevelt said, “A man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car; but if he has a university education, he may steal the whole railroad.” A college education will give me the knowledge needed to do what I would of hoped to achieve in the first place. In my case, college will prepare me by giving me the tools needed to become successful in the classroom. This will better my knowledge when applying myself in real life situations. I am attending college in hopes to better my education, reach my culinary goals and experience the college life.
Growing up in an economically deficient area, I witness the carelessness that plagues the conversation of college on a daily basis. Meaning, where I am from, it is seldom that people actually desire to attend college. Therefore, college is important to me because I would like to break the stigma that comes with the idea of college and I feel that education is the key to success in any civil society.
The best description of who I am begins with what I believe to be true, I am a Christian, more so a follower of Christ. I enjoy attending church along with learning about Jesus our Lord. In addition, I was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but I was not raised there as I moved frequently throughout the east coast due to my step father’s job. My culture consist of a mixture of Puerto Rico from my mother’s side, Nicaragua from my father’s side along with Mexico from my step father’s side. I come from a lower-class working family, in which I am the oldest of three. I was raised mostly with different families due to personal tragedies that happened during my childhood. As of now, this is my second year at Salem College where I continue to pursue my educational career to become a social help for those in need. I consider myself to be humble, hardworking and determined. My ultimate purpose is to serve others and guide the broken with words along with actions of encouragement. I am someone who thrives despite the circumstances and the fact that I am here attending college I am proud. Personally, I take self-care to be imperative, because in order to help others, you have to begin with you.
Why is a college education important to me? I have always wanted to attend college to earn my degree in accounting. After I graduated high school I went to college, but I didn’t major in accounting. I went to college for education, then I switched my major to psychology, then switched it again to liberal arts so I could learn Spanish. After two years of college, I decided to take a break from it. A few years later, I took a tax course, completed the course, then hired as a Tax Preparer. I personally believe a college education is important since I would become an accountant to enhance my clientele, it is a new experience, and having a college education means I will earn more money in the future. Going to college is a learning experience. I
In 7th grade I was accepted to the AVID program. I knew it was supposed to prepare you for college and also put you on the track to college but coming from a family where neither of my parents went to college and my brothers were on the fence leaning more towards no, I wasn’t sure if college was the choice for me and if I did go I had no idea what I would study. I knew that I needed to go because higher education leads to higher paying jobs and hopefully a better life.
College education means a chance at a better life. Nothing but positive elements can follow one when pursuing the dream of a college degree. Life can put obstacles in your way but if you stay determined then that determination can allow your dreams to become a reality. That determination is what drives me and what makes a college education so important to me. Vince Lombardi Jr. once stated, “The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack in will (2010).” Life has thrown myself and my family some curves but I strive every day to get my family ahead, to be their rock. I have the will and determination to continue to fight, to fight for a better future!
