Houdini became famous because he did tricks so mysterious, and dangerous tricks. He swallowed needles, and then got them out of his mouth and they were all threaded perfectly like they were before. Another thing that he did to stay famous is do even more threatening and fatal illusions. He did that because he didn’t like people imitating him and so he stepped up his game. In the book, it says that one day when “it was around 30 degrees below zero, Harry Houdini was strapped in a straitjacket upside down.” He was brave enough to do that in the cold freezing weather. Barnum was one of the most influential showmen of all time because he used his gifts, talents, and skills in order to better the lives of the people around him. Not only was Barnum a fantastic showman, but was also a politician and businessman. Even though Barnum was involved with other professions, he said of himself, “I am a showman by profession...and all the gilding shall make nothing else of me,” (Kunhardt). Because of his love for show business, Barnum transformed the modern day circus, which entertained and brought joy to generations of people all over the world.
Harry Potter is a fictional character invented by J.K Rowling in the series of seven books starting with Harry Potter and the Philosopher 's Stone and ending with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Wikipedia, 2015). Harry is the main character in this series whose parents died when he was young and he was brought up by his aunt and uncle (Philosopher’s Stone, 1997, p.5). Harry was neglected by his aunt and uncle (Philosopher’s Stone, 1997, p.27). Harry is presented a whole new reality when he goes to the zoo one day and his integration into the magical world changes him from the foundation. These changes within him will be analysed using the developmental psychology theories of Lawrence Kohlberg and Erik Erikson to explain how the environment aided or obstructed Harry’s development.
Al Capone was a highly known gangster in the 1920s Alphonse Capone born in Brooklyn, New York to a poor US immigrant couple, Gabriele and Teresina Capone, seeking a better opportunity for their then big family of eight children. He was known for running many lucrative illegal businesses that included alcohol bootlegging, gambling, prostitution, and protection. Al Capone was so notorious that he would murder those who got in his way. With little prosecution of his actions, Al Capone believed his self to being unstoppable. Al Capone, being raised as a kid in poverty learned hands on how to organize crime and became the biggest force in organized crime.
